As I understand it, the Commission also checks to see if P/A wells have sufficient mounding around well cellar to prevent ponding. This requirement was satisfied at Meltwater South and Fiord 5. To avoid having ARCO make two trips to these remote sites I offered to take pictures of the following well sites for the Commission and you agreed to this arrangement. In general I found all the well sites to be in good order. They were clear of trash and debris and with the exception of Fiord #4, there was adequate mounding around well cellar to prevent ponding. Fiord 4 was on a mud flat subject to tide action and no mound was present. The pilot had been to the Fiord 4 location prior to my visit with an ARCO surveyor, and by using the same GPS coordinates, he was confident of general well location I am enclosing the following photos taken from helicopter: I apologize for the Red Dog photos but as John Spaulding can attest it was a very foggy day; the pilot got in and out fast. 4a- 2 5-~ Photos #1 and #2 Red Dog. ~35r-oo.6 Photo #3, Meltwater South. 99-Oa9 Photo #4, Fiord #5. -- - 99-016 Photo #5 Fiord #4. - - 0 FI I I_1--11M G S ~: I:IL/I ~- E S WELL LOG TRANSMITTAL To: State of Alaska May 4, 1999 Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Comm. Move in and rig up Doyon #141 over pre-installed 16" conductor casing. Install diverter system. Drill 12-1/4" hole to 9-5/8" surface casing point (2000' MD) according to directional plan. Run and cement 9-5/8" 40# L-80 BTC Mod casing string to surface. Employ lightweight permafrost cement lead slurry to assure cement returns to the surface. Adequate excess cement will be pumped to ensure cement reaches the surface during the first stage cement job. NOTE: TAM Port Collar will be placed in the 9-5/8" casing at approx. 1000' TVD below the surface. Port collar will only be opened and used if cement does not circulate to surface. As an alternative, if observations at surface indicate cement top is above the Port Collar, a top job may be performed in lieu of utilizing the port collar. A Top Job may only be performed after consulting with the AOGCC. This is based on the cement thickening time and time required to trip in the hole and open the Port Collar to perform the second stage cement job. Install and test BOPE to 5000 psi. Test casing to 2,500 psi. Drill out cement and 10' of new hole. Perform formation integrity test not to exceed 16.0 ppg EMW. This establishes a maximum allowed drilling mud weight below the casing shoe per 20 AAC 25.030 (0.5 ppg less than the FIT or LOT EMW) Drill 8-1/2" hole to 7282' MD TD, coring as necessary, according to directional plan (if applicable). Run open hole evaluation logs. If the well is to be tested, run 7", 26#, L-80, BTC-M production casing. Go to step 10. Pressure test casing to 3500 psi. If the well will not be tested, P&A per AOGCC regulations. Go to step 13. Complete the well with 3-1/2", 9.3#, L-80, EUE 8rd tubing. ND BOPE. NU upper tree and test to 5,000 psi. Shut in and secure well. RDMO Doyon #141. Hook up well for flow testing to surface tanks. Produced fluids to be trucked to Kuparuk production facilities. Test zones as appropriate, abandoning each using a CTU. When complete, plug and abandon the well as per AOGCC regulations and RDMO CTU. 14. Thoroughly clean location and block off access ice road. For the offset well, Fiord ¢2, a kick was encountered at a depth of 2900' -I-VD. The Fiord ¢4 seismic analysis indicates that the pore pressure anomalies observed around 1800' and 2250' are due to sandy silt intervals and not shallow gas. In the Fiord ¢4 expected pore pressure plot there is another spike at around 2900'-I-VD, but surface casing will be set prior to reaching this depth. No weak formations have been experienced, particularly at shallow depths in the offset wells. The mud weights planned for Fiord ¢4 are conservatively based on those used during drilling of the nearest offset well, Fiord ¢1. No H2S is anticipated in drilling the Fiord ¢4 well. Prudent and precautionary drilling/tripping techniques will be emphasized while drilling this well. The 9-5/8" surface casing shoe will be tested to a maximum 16 ppg EMW formation integrity test or leak-off (whichever is least) after drilling 10 feet of new formation. ' FIORD #4 CONFIDENTIAL PRESSURE ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION (Per 20 ACC 25.005 (c) (7) and 20 ACC 25.033 (e)) DISCUSSION: An analysis and prediction of overpressured strata was performed for the Fiord #4 well as required by AOGCC regulations. ARCO does not expect to encounter abnormal pressure from any zones. The prediction is based on an evaluation of offset wells Fiord #1,2,3/3A; Nechelik #1; and Temptation#I/IA. Fiord #2 did encounter a kick at a depth of 2900' TVD, but the seismic analysis indicates that the pore pressure anomalies observed around 1800' and 2250' in Fiord #4 are due to sandy silt intervals and not shallow gas. In the Fiord #4 expected pore pressure plot there is another spike at around 2900' TVD, but surface casing will be set prior to reaching this depth. Attached are the following: Mud weight versus depth graph for these wells. Seismic analysis for Fiord #4. Pore pressure, frac pressure and anticipated mud weight graph. Date: Subject: December 7, 1998 Pore Pressure Prediction for Fiord Field and Proposed Wells Fiord #4, Fiord #5 (Correlated to lithology logs of Fiord #1). From: P.R. Hariharan R. Wydrinski Telephone: 509-3198 509-4325 To: J. Zawila ATO- 1464 J. Trantham ATO-1062 This letter is to summarize the pore pressure work done for the Alpine/Fiord area. Five seismic lines were processed to calculate the 2-D pore pressure profiles using ARCO's PPFG softWare. The seismic lines are; IL5848, IL5856, IL5908, IL5934 and IL 5941. The seismic velocity data (ITT) was utilized to compute the pore pressures for each of the linesl Further, on seismic line IL5941, at CDP-1838, the proposed well Fiord #4 was examined for pressure anomalies and presence of shallow gas below the permafrost. Similarly, on seismic line IL5848, at CDP-1781, the proposed well Fiord #5 was also examined for pressure anomalies just below the permafrost. Based on the pore pressure results through PPFG, and with correlations to the lithology logs of well Fiord #1, it is being inferred that there are no pressure anomalies at these wells. Pore Pressure Prediction Procedure: As mentioned, AEPT's PPFG software was utilized to obtain the pore pressures. A Normal Compaction Trend Line (NCTL) was first determined in the shales from the seismic Interval Travel Time (ITT) data for each of the seismic lines. A logarithmic Slope of-4.5e-05 was determined after correlating with earlier pore pressure analysis done in the Alpine region. The NCTL intercept varied from a minimum of 160 for IL5934 to a maximum of 175 for 11,5848. The NCTL line was carefully compared to the variation of the ITT curve to observe whether it increased, which indicated an increase of pressure. The magnitude of the difference in the transit time (DT) (between the NCTL and the ITT at a specific depth) was converted to pore pressure through the use of a Translational Trend model for the particular region. The Translational Trend model for the Fiord region, used for the computation of the pore pressure, was the Pleistocene model which is shown below: where Pore Pressure (PP) = C2 * (DT)2 + CI * (DT) + Co C2 = -1.34e-05; Ct = 0.0062; Co = 0.465 The complete 2-D pore pressure profile for each line was computed by the respective NCTL and the above Translational Trend model. Fracture Gradient (FG) prediction procedure for proposed Wells Fiord #4 and Fiord #5: From the pore pressures obtained utilizing the above method, the FG for each of the above proposed wells were predicted using the Eaton method. The Eaton method computes FG as below: where: FG = [PR/(1-PR)] * (OBG-PP) + PP FG = Fracture Gradient (ppg) PR = Poisson ratio for the formation at the particular depth OBG = Over Burden Gradient (from density data) PP = Pore Pressure (computed using PPFG as explained above) The Poisson ratio curve as a function of depth (PR) used for the computation of FG in the present project was the West_Cameron trend curve based on earlier work done in the Alpine/Fiord region. Fiord #4 (proposed): The Fiord #4 is known to be a proposed well at CDP 1838 on IL5941. Figure #1 is the pore pressure plot from the seismic velocity data (ITT). The curves from left to right are: 1. . . The black curve is the Interval Transit Time (ITT) in micro-seconds as a function of depth (ft.). The red line is the Normal Compaction Trend Line (NCTL) With a logarithmic slope of-4.5e-05 and an intercept of 160. The blue curve is the pore pressure (ppg. as a function of depth in feet). The red curve is the fracture gradient in (ppg. As a function of depth in feet). Certain formations have been labeled in black lettering. There are no shallow gas indications in this well. The anomalies in pore pressures observed around 1800 ft. and also around 2250 ft. are both due to sandy silt intervals at both depths. This has been concluded on the basis of the lithology logs obtained for the existing well, Fiord #1. Note that there are further sandy silt intervals around 4250 ft., 5250 ft. and 5800 ft. The NUIQSUT formation is indicated at 6820 ft. and the NECHELIK formation at 7040 ft. where the mud weight may be needed to be increased to 11 ppg. This may also be observed from the increase in the ITT value for the corresponding NCTL values around those depths. Figure #2 shows the 2-D pore pressure profile as a function of depth for IL5941 over the seismic interval from CDP: 1166 to 1926. Note, location of Fiord #4 (proposed) at CDP: 1838. Figure #3 shows the above pore pressure (IL5941) over the same seismic interval as a function of time in milliseconds (ms). Fiord #5 (proposed) Figure//4 is the similar to Figure gl and is the pore pressure and fracture gradient information for the proposed well Fiord 4/5 at CDP: 1781. There are no shallow gas indications in this well also. The pore pressure anomaly at 2250 ft. and around 5500 ft. is because of sandy silt formations. The NUIQSUT and NECHELIK formations are indicated between 7250 to 7500 ft. in this well. This correlates well with the lithology logs of Fiord gl where NUIQSUT was at 6820 and NECHELIK at 7040 ft. In this figure also the ITT curve can be observed to shift incrementally from the NCTL. Figure #5 shows the 2-D pore pressure profile as a function of depth for IL5848 spanning CDP: 1075 to 1926. The well Fiord #5 (proposed) can be seen at CDP-17811 Figure #6 shows the pore pressure profile of Figure #5 (IL5848) spanning the same range of CDP' s, as a function of time in milliseconds (ms). Figure ~7 shows the pore pressure profile for IL5856 over the seismic interval from CDP: 1092 to 1925. There were no abnormal shallow geopressures detected anywhere on this line. Figure #8 shows the pore pressure for IL5856 over the same sexsmic interval as a function of time. Figure #9 shows the pore pressure profile for IL5934 over the seismic interval from CDP: 1164 to 1926. There were no abnormal shallow geopressures detected on this line. Figure 10 shows the pore pressure for IL5934 over the same seismic interval as a function of time. Figure 11 shows the pore pressure profile for IL5908 over the smsmic interval from CDP: 1140 to 1926. There were no abnormal shallow geopressures detected on this line. Figure 12 shows the pore pressure for IL5908 over the same smsmic time. · interval as a function of Summary: 1. No abnormal pressures or shallow gas observed below permafrost for wells FiOrd #4 (proposed) and Fiord #5 (proposed).. 2. The seismic anomalies at 1750 ft. and 2250 ft. in Fiord #4 and at 2250 ft. in Fiord #5 appear to be because of a change of lithology at those depths. (AAI) by letter dated January 19, 1999, requested an exception to the well spacing provisions of 20 AAC 25.055(a)(1). The exception would allow drilling the Fiord #4 and Fiord #5 exploratory oil wells to undefined pools within 500' of a governmental quarter section line. 2. The Commission published notice of opportunity for public hearing in the Anchorage Daily News on January 27, 1999 pursuant to 20 AAC 25.540. 3. No protests to the application were received. FINDINGS: The Fiord #4 will be drilled as a directional well from a surface location of 250' from the south line (FSL), 250' from the west line (FWL) of Section 22, T13N, R5E, Umiat Meridian (UM) to a bottomhole location 565' FSL, 1030' FWL of Section 22, T13N, R5E, UM. . The Fiord #5 will be drilled as a directional well from a surface location of 375' from the north line (FNL), 812' from the east line (FEL) of Section 32, T13N, RSE, Umiat Meridian (UM) to a bottomhole location 205' FNL, 200' FEL of Section 32, T13N, R5E, UM. 3. Offset owners Anadarko Petroleum Corportion and Union Texas Alaska, LLC and offset landowner the State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources, have been duly notified. 4. An exception to the well spacing provisions of 20 AAC 25.055(a)(1) is necessary to allow the drilling of these wells. CONCLUSION: Granting spacing exceptions to allow drilling of the Fiord ~4 and Fiord #5 exploratory oil wells will not result in waste nor jeopardize correlative rights. Conservation Order No. 442. February 18, 1999 Page 2 NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED: AAI's application for exception to the well spacing provisions of 20 AAC 25.055 (a)(1) for the purpose of drilling the Fiord #4 and Fiord #5 exploratory oil wells is approved.
