Conservation Order No. 243
Granite Point 17587 #5
Granite Point Field
June 2, 1989
IT APPEARING THAT:
I ·
·
·
·
Amoco Production Company submitted an application on May 9,
1989 requesting an exception to 20 AAC 25.055(a)(2) to
permit the entering of Granite Point 17587 #5 for the
purpose of testing Middle Kenai "B" sands for gas.
The expected productive interval in the Granite Pt. 17587 #5
wellbore is closer than 1500 feet to a section line.
Notice of hearing on this request was published in the
Anchorage Daily News on May 13, 1989 pursuant to 20 AAC
25.540.
No protests to the application were received.
FINDINGS:
·
The Granite Point 17587 #5 well is directionallY drilled
from a surface location at 2054'FSL and 2022'FWL of Section
31, TllN, RllW, Seward Meridian to a bottom hole location at
2382'FSL and 1881'FWL of Section 30, TllN, RllW, Seward
Meridian.
Conservation Order No. 243
June 2, 1989
Page 2
·
·
·
·
·
The Granite Point 17587 #5 wellbore intersects the Middle
Kenai "B" sands at a location that is less than 1500 feet
from a section line.
The wellbore at the Middle Kenai "B" sands horizon is more
than one mile from lands with a change in ownership of oil
and gas rights.
Pool rules have not been established governing spacing for
the projected gas bearing horizon.
A spacing exception to 20 AAC 25.055(a)(2) is required.
Conservation Order No. 240 provides for re-entering Granite
Point 17587 #4 well to test the Middle Kenai "B" sands in
the same governmental section as now requested for Granite
Point 17587 ~5 well.
The operator has now cancelled any intention to re-enter
Granite Point 17587 ~4 well to test Middle Kenai "B" sands.
CONCLUSIONS:
·
·
Conservation Order No. 240 should be revoked in order to
prevent more than one exploratory well in the drilling unit
per 20 AAC 25.055(a)(2) and to prevent the Middle Kenai "B"
gas zone from being open to the wellbore closer than 3000
feet to any well capable of producing from the same pool per
20 AAC 25.055(a)(4).
Upon revocation of Conservation Order No. 240, granting a
spacing exception to allow entry of the Granite Point 17587
#5 well as proposed will not result in waste nor jeopardize
correlative rights.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED:
1. Conservation Order No. 240 is hereby revoked.
