Re: 20 AAC 25.300 (Request for information) dated June 23, 2009— Status of Oil and Gas
Wells
This is Union Oil Company of California's response to your letter dated June 22, 2009 seeking
the status of certain oil and gas wells. We have reviewed and revised the list of wells inactive
for more than five years you provided us. Attached is an updated list with our comments.
Please note that nearly a third of the list you provided is comprised of wells on the Baker and
Dillon platforms. We are currently conducting operations to prepare both of those platforms for
abandonment. We expect the actual well abandonment work to commence in 2010. Our long
range well abandonment plans for our other fields are currently being developed. The current
strategy is to group/sequence well abandonments by platform over the next several years.
Please also note the following corrections to your list: (1) added G-30 to the Commission's list of
wells (shut-in date of 6/02); (2) removed from your list SCU 21A-04 (which has been shut in for
less than five years); and (3) removed from your list SCU 312-09 (now in Operational Shutdown
status).
Thank you for the opportunity to respond with the revisions to the list. If you would like to
discuss our long range abandonment plans please let us know and we can set up a time to
discuss them with the Commission.
If you have any further questions regarding this response please contact Larry Greenstein at
907-263-7661
Sincerely,

Re: 20 AAC 25.300 (Request for Information) — Status of Oil and Gas Wells
Dear Mr. Haines:
The records of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (Commission)
indicate that the oil and gas wells on the attached list that are operated by UNOCAL
have been inactive for five years or longer.
If, for any listed well, UNOCAL believes the Commission's information is not correct,
by August 3, 2009, please indicate the status of the well—i.e., in production, plugged
and abandoned, suspended, converted to a water well, or converted to an injection
well—and provide all documentation relevant to the well's correct status.
If, for any listed well, UNOCAL agrees that the Commission's information is correct, by
August 3, 2009, please identify the plans, including the schedule, to plug and abandon
the well, suspend the well, return the well to production, or convert the well to a water
well or injection well.
This request is made pursuant to 20 AAC 25.300. Responding does not relieve
UNOCAL of the obligation to comply with any legal requirements or mean that the
Commission will not take any additional action, such as an enforcement action under 20
AAC 25.535.
If you have questions regarding this request for information, please contact Mr. Winton
Aubert, Senior Reservoir Engineer, at 907-793-1231 or winton.aubert(aalaska.«r ov.

Cathy . Foerster

On July 24, 1989 A~oco perforated well 16-2 on the Bruce
platform from 7564' to 7628'. The zone produced only
water and was plugged at 7406' with cement to 7320'.
On August 10, 1989 the interval from 4230' to 42?4' was
perforated and also produced only water. The well was shut
in and remains in the condition illustrated in the enclosed

AFE Approval Request
Granite Point 18742 No. 16 Gas Recompletion
Platform Bruce, Cook Inlet, Alaska
Amoco Production Company requests your approval to
recomplete 18742 No. 16 to gas production in the Beluga
sands. Gross cost for well work is $480 M.
Well 18742 No. 16 is a Platform Bruce injection well that
has been shut-in since January 1987, when all injection
on Platform Bruce was shut-in. The procedure for this
recompletion is briefly outlined on Attachment 1.
Wellbore diagrams show current status and expected
post-recompletion configuration.
No. 16 was selected for gas recompletion on the basis of
several indicators. It is near the crest of the struc-
ture; it is a close offset to No. 40, from which gas is
known to have flowed through parted casing; open-hole
logs from No. 16 exhibit characteristics of gas-bearing
sands such as sonic "wipeout."
This recompletion generates very favorable economics un-
der both of two possible sales scenarios. Negotiations
are under way to sell dry gas to Unocal for $1.20/MCF.
For this scenario we are assuming a sales rate of 5.0
MMCFD. Gas would be transported through existing lines.
It is anticipated that some platform facilities modifica-
tions would be required for an additional cost of $100 M
gross. So, total project cost of $580 M (for well work
and facilities changes), would pay out in less than 3
months.

Page 2
Under the alternate gas sales scenario, Unocal has of-
fered to purchase additional casinghead gas (CHG) from
Granite Point at $0.97/MCF. Gas produced from No. 5
would displace 2 to 3 MMCFD CHG currently being consumed
for fuel. Because most of the CHG is produced and con-
sumed on Platform Anna, a second gas line will be re-
quired between Anna and Bruce to allow the dry gas from
17587 No. 5 to displace the CHG on Anna. The estimated
cost for the gas line and associated facilities work is
$350 M. In this case, total cost for well work, facili-
ties, and gas line is $830 M, which will pay out in 27
months at a rate of 2.0 MMCFD.
Your approval for facilities modifications or gas line
spending will be requested following a successful
recompletion in 18742 No. 16, and resolution of the gas
sales negotiations.
If you are.in agreement.with_this recompletion, please
sign and return to this office one copy of the Form 850,
retaining the other for your records. Any questions con-
cerning this work may be directed to Mark Glover, phone
(303)830-4895; or Jill Flint, phone (303)830-4363.
