Benson C§:) Gentlemen: A combination drill cuttings and core analysis field laboratory, furn- ished by Colorado Oil and G;1s COTForation and m8..Tmed and equipped by Core Laboratories, Inc., was present at the site of the subject well throughout drilling and coring operations from a depth of 20 feet through 8634 feet. Using standard te chnique s and equipment, the drilling fluid was monitored continuously for the presence of hydro- carbons, and the drill cuttings were checked at regular intervals for the presence of hydrocarbons, and for lithology. These findings are presented on the accompanying Grapholog. The results of this - tešt ~ pr'es~nteërõilthe Gr~ph04iog:' .- - - ........~ ~- "-------...- Subject well spudded in a poorly cemented conglomeritic sandstone and was drilled to a depth of 76 feet, at which depth cOnductor pipe was set. The sandstone was predominant in the sample s to a depth of 220 feet. At this depth there was a heavy influx of gray clay and mudstone and Som e accompanying gas. Throughout drilling also present on the Frotx} 2.30 to 790 feet, the sample s were of poor quality, It is be lieved clay and mudstones were drilled, and would wash from the samples, leaving samples of a poor descriptive quality. F~r the interval, 790 to 1400 feet_, the sample s consisted of clay, mud- stone, and sandstone with occasional siltstone stringe rS. There we re no indications of gas or oil concentrations. Between the depths of 1400 and 1600 feet, a lava flow consisting of very fine crystalline, dark green and brown, minerals was drilled. At the base of this flow, from 1600 to 1630 feet, a chert conglomerate was present. There were no shows of gas or oil. Surface pipe was set at 1420 feet. The subject well went from the chert conglomerate into a soft tight sandstone at 1630 feet, and at 1760 feet into a dark gray siltstone. From 1820 to 1950 feet, a tight sandstone was drilled., From 1950 to 2860 feet, a shaly silt to silty shale was drilled. No shows of gas or oil were seen. At 2860 feet, a brown sandst.one with abundant brown mica flakes was drilled. From 2990 to 3650 feet, a waxy shale was drilled. The waxy appearance was due to the numerous sEckensides on the shale. For the interval, 3650 to 37.30 feet, a marly clay was seen in the sam- ple s. This clay would, for the most part, wash from the sample s, There were no indications of hydrocarbon concentratLons. Sandstone, marly clay, and siltstone were drilled from 3730 to 4400 feet. No hydrocarbons we re found to be pre sent. The inte rval was significant in that it was the last of the clay and mudstone exceptwhat could be attributed to sloughing of the hole. There were nO shows of gas or oil. At 5100 feet, diesel fuel was addEod to the drilling fluid to enhance its quality. Upon the addition of the fue 1 to the drilling fluid, gas was pre sent in the fluid and was present to the tC':al depth of the well. Drilling opera- tions were ceased at 8634 feet, and the CorE: Laboratories, Inc. per- sonnel were released from logging. During our conversation, you stated that you would approve the removal of the 2" pipe if the location was tied in by some other means. We are presently working on the airstrip constructed by Colorado Oil and Gas Company. We have plans to extend this strip into the cleared area around the oil well location resulting in a 2000 foot airstrip. Refer to the enclosed map. The date actual drilling is started shall be reported promptly to the district engineer. 3. Any change in the approved program must receive prior approval of the district engineer. 4. Install adequate blowout prevention equipment and maintain in good condition at all times. Rams should be tested occasionally by opening and closing and against pressure. 5. All pertinent data, including electrical logs, directional surveys, core descriptions and analyses, stratigraphic and faunal deter- minations, formation tests, and similar information shall be submitted in duplicate. Electrical logs and similar surveys and the results of formation tests should be submitted as soon as the records are avail- able. Other data not previously submitted shall be included in or submitted with the log and history. 6. Notify the district engineer in advance of formation or water shut- off tests. 7. Before the production string is cemented or the hole abandoned, the district engineer shall be notified and allowed sufficient time to examine cores, electric logs or other records. 8. All rigs or wells shall be permanently marked in a conspicuous place with the name of the operator, the lease serial number and the number and location of the well. This marker to be maintained at all times. 9. Lessee's Monthly Report of Operations (Form 9-329) must be filled out and forwarded in duplicate to the Los Angeles office, 1012 Bartlett Bldg., 215 West 7th Street, not later than the sixth of the following month. 10.
