Drilling & Wells Coiled Tubing Drilling Team Well MP F-33 is scheduled for a through tubing sidetrack to be drilled with coiled tubing. The following summarizes the procedure required to prep MP F-33 for drilling and is submitted as an attachment to Form 10-403. A schematic diagram of this proposed completion is attached. 1. The well has just been worked over by rig 4ES. The ESP completion was pulled and a new string of 4 Y2" tubing with packer was installed. 2. SLB/Nordic CTD unit will rig up and test BOPE. 3. E-line will rig up, run dummy whipstock drift to whipstock setting depth. 4. E-line will set a Baker 4 W' x 7" whipstock at approx. 11,726'. 5. SLB/Nordic will then pump approx. 25 bbls cement past the whipstock to shut off existing Sag R. perfs. 6. SLB/Nordic will then mill the window, drill and complete the sidetrack per the Permit to Drill application. However, several changes to the sidetrack design have occurred. These changes are as follows: 1. It was discovered that the planned KOP was incorrectly placed in the lower Kingak instead of the upper Sag R. interval. Since sidetrack drilling in the Kingak shale is very troublesome, the whipstock depth has been lowered from 11,700 to 11,726' to place the window in the Sag R. 2. Because of the lower window depth, the original plan to retain production from the existing Sag R. perfs is not feasible. Instead, the plan now is to cement off the existing Sag perfs. This will change the sidetrack name from MP F-33Lt to MP F-33a as the well will not be a multi-lat. This new operation, cementing off peffs, requires a Sundry Notice. This Sundry Notice was submitted to the AOGCC this afternoon. 3. The directional plan originally submitted under MP F-33L1 has been altered to avoid a fault crossing at the far end of the MP F-33L1 well plan. Avoiding this fault changes the BHL approx. 1140 ft from the BHL given in the original Permit to Drill, 201-057. A revised Permit to Drill application was submitted today with the new BHL. This change in BHL also eliminates the potential change in reservoir pressure that may have been encountered by crossing the fault as originally planned. The new lower expected reservoir pressures are given in the revised Permit application. SLB/Nordic is expected to move onto MP-F-33 about mid-day tomorrow. Actual drilling operations are not expected to start until Sunday 3/25/01. Please advise if further information is needed. This sidetrack was to be a multi~lat therefore required no Sundry notice. However, yesterday's change in plans included a change in BHL (>500') as well as a change in the completion design. The existing perfs wilt now be squeezed off by pumping cement past the whipstock. This changes the name from MP F-33L1 to MP F-33a and requires a Sundry Notice for the perf shut-off. i have just sent to you a revised Permit to Drill and an application for Sundry Notice to cover the perf squeeze. Nordic is expected to move onto the well tomorrow, 3/23t01. i apologize for the last minute change in plans. Cor~lmission Anchorage, Page 4 j. Milne Point Unit, Alaska TO: Steve Rossberg FROM: J. Fox Well Name: IMP F-33 Main Category:I P E R F Sub Category: Initial Operation Date: 108 / 14 / 96 Date: 108/14/96 Objective: In preparation for the upcoming frac job and subsequent completion operations the Sag River formation needs to be perforated. Following the perforating of the casing a pressure survey will be run to determine inital reservoir pressure to be used for reservoir engineering, AOGCC requirements, and determination of kill fluid weight requirements. A couple pressure gradient stops will be made in order to confirm that the perfs are covered with completion fluids (not contaminated w/drilling fluids). Sequence of Events: 0800 - MIRU Atlas E-Line Unit. 0900 - RIH with 20' x 3 3/8" perforating gun. Make tie-in pass and correct depth. Log up to 11,766'. SlWHP = 0 psig. Detonate gun perforating casing from 11,768' to 11,788' w/22 gm. Jumbo Jet charges (EHD = 0.76", TTP'= 6.4") at 6 JSPF. Log off and POOH. All shots fired. Ice noted in and on spent gun when it came out of the hole. 1300 - RIH w/20'x 3 3/8" perforating gun. Make tie-in pass and correct depth. Log up to 11,746'. SIWHP = 700 psig. Attempt to detonate gun - mis run. POOH. SIWHP = 200 psig. Some restriction seen in top 160 of the hole. Work toolstring up and down to disperse ice. Toolstring has traces of ice on it. 1600 - RIH with 20'x 3 3/8" perforating gun. Make tie-in pass and correct depth. Log up to 11,746'. SIWHP -- 700 psig. Detonate gun perforating casing from 1~1,748' to 11,768' w/22 gm. SIWHP did not change. Jumbo Jet charges (EHD = 0.76", TTP = 6.4") at 6 JSPF. Log off and POOH. All shots fired but shots were offset from the scallops. 1900 - MU and RIH w/HP pressure / temperature toolstring. Make pressure / temperature stops at the following depths: Location Duration Depth: MD (TVD) Initial press/temp. Final press./temp.. Lubricator 11,788' 11,748' 11,248' 10 min. 0' (0') 30 min. 11,788' (8770') 10 min. 11,748' (8741') 10 min. 11,248' (8381') 499 psia/38.6 deg. F 510 psia/38.7 deg. Results: - The production casing was perforated from 11,748' to 11,788 wlm ( Sag. River formation) w/bigbhole charges. The perforation depths on the completion procedure were based on the MWD log. To correct them to the primary cased hole correlation log the depths had to be shifted down by 2'. - Initial reservoir pressure is 4440 psig at the top perf. This equates to a EMW of 9.77 ppg. To provide a 200 psi trip margin the required completion brine density would be 10.2 ppg. - The calculated fluid density gradient across the perforations is 0.366 psi/ft. (7.0 ppg). This does not appear to be accurate but at least indicates that there is not a heavy fluid across the perfs. The density gradient through the 500' md above the top perf is 1.00 psi/ft (19.3 ppg) which is obviously in error and inconclusive. - Recorded SIWHPs are misleading in that they are affected by the E- line diplacement. Supe r v~~.)r~'~'~ FROM' Bobby Fos!er~.~-_" SUBJECT: Petroleum Inspector Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission DATE: July 27, 1996 FILE NO: OWOIG1DD.DOC Surface Casing Cement BPX - MPU - F-33 PTD # 96-0123 Kuparuk River Field Saturday, July 27,1996: ! traveled this date to BPX's MPU well F-33 after being contacted by Jimmy Pyron, BPX rig rep., informing me that they would be cementing the surface casing. The casing was cemented with 1250 sks.(483.1bbls) of 12.1 ppg. of Permafroast cement followed by 250 sks ( 51.2 bbis ) of 15.8 ppg. Of Class G cement. The job began at 4:00 AM and cement was in place at 6:30 AM. The cement slurry was pumped at a rate of 7 to 9 bbis./minut____..._e and approximately 20 bbls. of good cement was circulated back to surface. The cement was easy to detect because red dye had been added to the first 50 bbis. of cement pumped. After the job was completed, I spoke with Jimmy and he said that this was the first time he had circulated cement back to surface on the jobs he had done in the Milne Point field. He said he had gotten back some of the spacer water back but no cement. I ask if this was the usual amount of cement used and he said yes. I ask him if he did anything different and he said he had slowed the pump rate down from about 12 to 16 bbls./min. 4-0 --/_ c) was the only thing he changed. This was a very good cement job. The crews knew what they were doing and Mr. Pyron had made sure the hole and mud was in good shape before the casing was run. After getting on bottom the casing was reciprocated while circulating the mud and cleaning up the hole and was reciprocated all during the cement job. SUMMARY: I witnessed the surface casing cement job on BPX's MPU well F-33. Attachments: NONE TONY KNOWLES, GOVERNOR ~kI. The permit to drill does not exempt you from obtaining additional permits required by law from other governmental agencies, and does not authorize conducting drilling operations until all other required permitting determinations are made. Approval for annular injection is contingent on the operator's submittal of an Application for Sundry Approvals (10-403) with pertinent facts and evaluation of surface hole conditions, casing placement, cementing, and any diagnostic logs that were nm. The documentation submitted should include a CQL or a valid LOT to assure the Commission that an adequate seal has been attained and that the well has been cased and cemented according to regulation. Blowout prevention equipment (BOPE) must be tested in accordance with 20 AAC 25.035. Sufficient notice (approximately 24 hours) of the BOPE test performed before drilling below the surface casing shoe must be given so that a representative of the Commission may witness the test. RECEIVED JUL 1 2 199G Alaska 011 & Gas Cons. Commission Anchorage DRILLING HAZARDS AND RISKS' Seethe updated Milne Point F-Pad Data Sheet prepared by Pete Van Dusen for information on F pad and review recent wells drilled on F Pad. Most of the trouble time on recent wells has been due to equipment mechanical problems with the surface equipment, rather than formation drilling problems. The MPU PE group MAY be perforating, hydraulic fracturing and cleaning out wells shortly after the rig drills and completes them. This will make the near rig area congested and as a result potentially hazardous. Ensure personnel use caution moving around adjacent production activities. Close Approach: There are no close approaches associated with the drilling of MP F-33(SAG). Lost Circulation' There has not been any appreciable amount of lost circulation in surface hole on any of the F Pad wellls to date. Stuck Pipe Potential' Well MPF-53 was stuck coming out on the short trip at surface casing point. Proir to this incident there was only minor indications that the gravel and coal were present. It appears that we dragged the gravel up into the bottom of the curve and reduced our ability to move up or down. Then we lost the ability to circulate when the hole collapsed. Subsequent fishing operations were not successful and a very expensive BHA was lost in the hole from 2516 - 3342. If significant gravels are encountered stop and raise funnel viscosity to 150 cp viscosity immediately.
