Approval is requested for the proposed re-entry of pt. Mcintyre Suspended Well P1-18 (NV-18). This \~ '\ (\
well was drilled to test the Nuvuk, below the Kuparuk formation, in December of 1999. A string of 9 5/8"
surface casing was set at 4609 feet, measured depth. The well was drilled to the planned total depth,
but after assessing, no intermediate / production casing string was run. The well was Plugged and
Abandoned back to the surface casing shoe. See Well Completion or Re-Completion Report and Log;
Permit number 199-116/ 399-266
The new well bore is proposed as a conventional sidetrack, targeting Kuparuk reserves. Rather than drill
out the EZSV and utilize the existing intermediate/production hole, it is proposed to set a whip stock and
sidetrack from the existing 9 5/8" surface casing, drilling an 8 %" hole to planned TO.
The P1-18A sidetrack is currently scheduled for Nabors 2ES beginning around April 15, 2002, after the
completion of the P1-02A sidetrack. The pre-rig work for this sidetrack is planned to begin as soon as
the attached Application for Sundry is approved.
Scope
Pre-Ria Work:
. Notify the field AOGCC representative with intent to Re-Enter *
1. If necessary, level the pad. Please provide total well preparation cost on the handover form.
2. Conduct a SSSV State test on P1-17, in preparation for temporary shut-in for Rig MI/RU.
Ria Ooerations:
1. Secure P1-17. Shut in at SSSV and Wing valve.
2. MIRU Nabors 2ES.
3. Rig up N2ES drillers console for remote access to P1-17 SSSV panel.
4. Bring P1-17 back on line.
5. RU and circulate out freeze protection and displace surface casing to seawater.
6. Nipple up and test BOPE.
7. Pull 3 %" 'kill string' tubing from well and LID.
8. P/U milling assembly and 5" drill pipe.
9. RIH, drift 9 5/8" surface casing to TOC plug at approximately 4512' MD. POOH and stand back
milling assembly.
10. Test 9 5/8" surface casing to 3500 psi for 30 minutes.
P1-18 Application for Sundry
11. RU and RIHwith 9 5/8" Baker Whi Stock assembl. Orient whi stock as desired and set on
cement lu . Mill window in 9 5/8" casing at -4494' MD. Mill Idrill -20 feet of new formation. Pull up
into 9 5/8" casing and conduct FIT to 12.5ppg EMW. POOH.
12. MU 8 3/4" directional assembly with MWD/GRJRes and RIH. Kick-off and drill the 8 3/4" intermediate
I production interval. Density and Neutron sensors are required from HRZ to TD. Plan BHA change
accordingly. Drill ahead to an estimated total depth of 10,655' MD (9253' TVD).
13. Run and cement 7",26#, L-80 X 13Cr-80 (below packer) casing to TD.
14. Test the 7" casing to 3500 psi for 30 minutes.
15. Run 4%",12.6# 13Cr-80 completion.
16. Set packer and test the tubing to 3500 psi and annulus to 3500 psi for 30 minutes.

1. GIH to TO with open-ended drill pipe. Circulate and condition mud for cementing operations.
2. Plug #1 - TO to 100' above top of Sag River Formation:
· Mix and pump cement.
· Spot 15.8 ppg cement from TD=11, 187' MD to 10,877' MD
· PU above plug and WOC. Displace with 15.8 ppg mud from 10,877' to 10,387' MD,
(@ base Kuparuk)
· Tag and set weight on cement plug to verify integrity and location
3. POH to 10,487' MD, (100' below base Kuparuk)
4, Plug #2 - 100' below base Kuparuk to 100' above top hydrocarbon in Stump Island:
· Mix and pump cement.
· Spot 15.8 ppg cement from 10,487' MD to 9,320' MD
· PU above plug and WOC. LD excess tubulars as necessary
· Tag and set weight on cement plug to verify integrity and location
5. POH and PU EZSV for 9-5/8" 40# casing. GIH and set EZSV @ 4550' MD, (59' above casing shoe.)
Set down 20K on EZSV to verify placement and integrity. Sting in and establish injection rate. PU
above EZSV.
6. Plug #3 - volume to cover 100' below casing shoe and 50' on top of EZSV:
· Mix and pump cement.

Gentlemen,
I spoke with Bob Crandall this afternoon regarding the AOGCC's request for drill
cutting samples and mudlog for the NV-18 (Nuvuk) well. After we discussed the
openhole logging program and the additional RFT (pressure) and rotary sidewall
coring program for the Sag River Section, Bob agreed that the drill cuttings and
mudlog were redundant. Thus, the AOGCC will waive their requirement for these
data.

Cement Calculations:
The following cement calculation are based upon a single stage job using a port collar as contingency if
cement is not circulated to surface. Cement volumes will be as follows: Lead - as noted for 1st stage.
Tail - as noted below for 1 st stage.

Drilling Hazards/Contingencies:
HYDROGEN SULFIDE - H2S
· Point Mcintyre, PM-1, is not designated as an H2S drill site, however Standard
Operating Procedures for H2S precautions should be followed at all times. The
highest level of H2S recently measured on PM-1 has been 43 ppm.
DRilliNG CLOSE APPROACH:
· Close approach issues have been mitigated. There are 3 adjacent wells that required
directional drill to avoid them in the shallow sections of the surface hole.
SURFACE HOLE SECTION:
· The surface hole interval on PM-1 has been relatively problem free on all wells to date.
· Minor tight hole has been encountered in the clay sections below the permafrost.
· Differential sticking could be problematic in this hole section adjacent to the permeable
SV Sands. Avoid leaving drill string stationary for extended periods, tighten fluid loss
properties of mud, and string in Barofibre prior to penetrating sand intervals.
· Surface casings are set as deep as 5000' SS to cover the shallow and very permeable
SV sands to reduce chances of differential sticking in the intermediate / production hole
sections.
· No shallow over-pressures have been encountered off of PM-1.
PRODUCTION SECTION:
· Differential sticking will be a problem if loss circulation is occurring or if the drill string is
left stationary for an extended period or time.
· The FIT test is planned to 12.5 ppg, which is -2.0 ppg above the planned mud weight
at TD of the hole interval. ~ S\C, ~
· Kick tolerance for the 9-5/8" shoe would be -475 psi assuming an influx (assumes gas)
at section TD of 11,264' MD. o~ \ \\ ~~ \~ ~'YY1 ~N. \...ow~\ \ "~"E:-
· This hole section will be drilled to TD with a 47 deg ramp angle followed by a drop to
near vertical with a turn to the West-Northwest prior to penetrating the HRZ and
Kuparuk.
· The well will then be drilled to -100' below the Ivishak OWC.
· KCI/ GEM drilling fluids will be used through the Kuparuk interval and deeper to reduce
torque and drag, enhance the ability to set production casing on bottom and to
minimize formation damage.
· Open hole wireline logs will be run once the well is drilled to total depth.
· 7" production casing will be ran to TD and cemented to cover the shallowest exposed
hydrocarbon zone, (anticipated to be the Kuparuk.)
· This production well will then be completed with a 4-1/2" tubing string.

Disposal:
· No annular injection in this well.
· Cuttings Handling: Cuttings generated from drilling operations will be hauled to grind
and inject at DS-04. Any metal cuttings will be sent to the North Slope Borough.
· Fluid Handling: Haul all drilling and completion fluids and other Class 1/ wastes to DS-
04 for injection. Haul all Class I wastes to Pad 3 for disposal.
DRILL AND COMPLETE PROCEDURE SUMMARY
Pre-Rig Work:
The 20" conductor has already been set for this well.
1. Weld an FMC landing ring for the FMC Gen V Wellhead on the conductor.
2. Remove the well house from offset wells as required. If necessary, level the pad and prepare location
for rig move.
3. Ensure any required plugs and / or well shut-ins have been accomplished in nearby wells for rig move
and close approach concerns.
Rig Operations:
1. MIRU Nabors 7ES.
2. Nipple up and function test 21-1/4" diverter system. PU 4" DP as required and stand back in derrick.
3. MU 12-1/4" drilling assembly and drill surface hole to approximately 4562' MD / 4556' TVD. The
actual surface hole TO will be +/-10' below the SV1 sand.
4. Run and cement the 9-5/8", 40# surface casing back to surface. A port collar or stage tool will be run
in the casing to allow for secondary cementing if cement is not circulated to surface during primary
cementing operations.
5. NO diverter system and NU casing / tubing head. NU SOPE and test to 4000 psi.
6. MU 8-3/4" drilling assembly and RIH to float collar. Test the 9-5/8" casing to 3000 psi for 30 minutes.
7. Drill out shoe joints and displace well LSND drilling fluid. Drill new formation to 20' below 9-5/8" shoe
and perform Formation Integrity Test to 12.5 ppg.
8. Drill per directional plan to 500' above Kuparuk and displace well with KCI / GEM drilling fluid.
9. Drill ahead to planned TD at approximately 11,264' MD / 10,119' ss TVD. POOH.
10. Run open hole wireline logs.
11. MU 8-3/4" clean-out assembly. RIH with bit to TO. Spot clean mud on bottom for running casing.
12. POH for casing.
13. Run 7" 26# L-80 casing to TO and cement to 1000' above top of Kuparuk formation. Displace cement
with 2% KCI and fresh water.
14. Install/ower isolation packer using electric line between the Sag and Ivishak formations.
15. Run 4-1/2", 12.6# L-80 1ST completion string. See attached completion schematic for details.
Displace tubing to Diesel and set production packer.
16. Install two-way check. Nipple down the BOPE. Nipple up and test the tree to 5000 psi. Pull two-way
check and freeze protect the well to -2000'.
17. Install BPV. Secure the well and rig down / move off 7ES.
