(BPXA), I write to provide a courtesy notification regarding a flaring event at GC3 occurring between 12/30/2016 at 05:00 and 1/5/2018 at 02:45. Please see below for a summary of daily duration and volumes. This event is due to failure of GC3's wet gas compressor, K-5500. BPXA had initiated a project to replace this compressor in November of 2016. The new compressor tripped offline due to control/instrumentation issues associated with the lube oil equipment. Operations Leadership compared the two options of (1) continuing to operate GC3 with K5500 out of service, with flaring; and (2) shutting down GC3 and freeze protecting the pads and associated equipment. Based on good oil field engineering practices and conservation purposes, BPXA made the decision to continue operating GC3 while the troubleshooting and repairs were taking place. The bases of this decision are as follows: • The field experienced extreme weather conditions limiting the ability to travel and resulting in significant drifting on the pads and access roads. • The 20" WW3 line cannot be freeze protected from GC -1 to GC -3, therefore, there is risk of the line and other surface piping associated with water injection freezing during downtime. • Given the number of freeze protection activities that would need to be undertaken, there is risk for spills/injuries. • Even if GC3's HP production were to be shutdown, flaring would continue the from LP production. Operations would have to shut in all production progressively as freeze protects are complete, which would probably take 4 or 5 days after the weather cleared and pads/roads were snow blown out. The repairs and start up took 7 days. Therefore, the work was completed faster than what it would take to get everything freeze protected. (BPXA), I write to provide a courtesy notification regarding a flaring event at GC3 occurring between 05/04/2017 at 12:44 and 5/09/2017 at 11:37. Please see below for a summary of daily duration and volumes. This event is due to required maintenance on GC3's wet gas compressor, K-5500. BPXA had initiated a project to replace this compressor in November of 2016. The new compressor has experienced issues with high differential pressure in the Lube Oil system. To resolve the excessive differential pressure issue, a new orifice was installed in the LO system entering the compressor bundle and the LO coolers were swapped out. Operations Leadership compared the two options of (1) continuing to operate GC3 with K5500 out of service, with flaring; and (2) shutting down GC3 and freeze protecting the pads and associated equipment. Based on good oil field engineering practices and conservation purposes, BPXA made the decision to continue operating GC3 while the K-5500 lube oil system repairs were taking place. The bases of this decision are as follows: The 20" WW3 line cannot be freeze protected from GC -1 to GC -3, therefore, there is risk of the line and other surface piping associated with water injection freezing during downtime. Given the number of freeze protection activities that would need to be undertaken, there is risk for spills/injuries. Even if GC3's HP production were to be shutdown, flaring would continue the from LP production. Operations would have to shut in all production progressively as freeze protects are complete, which would probably take 4 or 5 days. The repairs and start up took 5 days. Therefore, the work was completed in about the same time as it would take to get everything freeze protected. Flaring volume and durations: • A flaring event occurred at GC3 starting at 05/04/2017 12:44 and stopping at 05/04/2017 23:59 with a volume of 2150 (MSCF).
