Box 196612 Anchorage, AK 99519-6612 Attention: Larry Parnell Dear Larry, I have compiled a summary of Anadrill's performance on DS 18-29A. SERVICES PROVIDED MWD with DWOB and DTOR was picked up on 26-APR-93 to begin kickoff at the top of the window (8000'). Tripped out at 8861' to pick up a new bit, a packed assembly and to lay the motor down. The casing point was picked by using ROP and DTOR at the bit. .lOB PERFORMANCE DSS with downhole weight on bit and downhole torque were used to side track DS 18- 29A. The DWOB was used effectively to assist in the sidetrack process. The 2" MEL (Mechanical Efficiency Log) indicated that the bit was in new formation at 8034', 29' from the start of the kickoff. Though the cement plug was tagged at 7997' only 3' from the top of the window, the plug was firm which made the kickoff routine. When the bit was pulled on the kickoff run MEL indicted a bit wear of 6-E-O and when on surface the rig grade was 7-6-E-1/16. The bit was pulled so that we could have a fresh insert bit for drilling the sands. On the next run ROP and DTOR were used to pick the top of the TANGO shale and hence the casing point. The first good survey was taken at 8216' which was 211' below the top of the window. Up to this point a proximity plot with a u'aveling cilinder was used to estimate the departure from the old well. A total of 28 good surveys were taken of which the DD used 13. The final survey gave the following coordinates: SURVEY DEPTH: 9298' DRIFT: 18.3 AZMIUTH: 338.66 LATITUDE:-1570.58' DEPARTURE:-2006.55' TVD: 8535.41' PROJECTED SURVEY AT THE BIT: SURVEY DEPTH: 9372' DRIFT: 18.3 AZIMUTH: 338.7 LATITUDE:-1549.03' DEPARTURE:-2014.97' TVD: 8605.41' For your convenience I have included an ASCII file of the surveys, the foot data, a hard copy of the surveys, a SPIN,and a MEL log. Form 10-401 Rev. 12-'H~5~u vv. du,,,;~u,, Submit in triplicate OBJECTIVE: The primary objective of the 18-29A redrill is to finish the drilling and completion of Well 18-29 approved in the 1992 DS-18 development program. The well was planned to be located on the southwest side of the DS-18 graben, but due to extreme lost circulation problems experienced while trying to cross the heavily faulted region, the well was plugged back to the 9-5/8" casing and temporarily abandoned. Under the change in scope proposed to the Unit, 18-29 will now be drilled to the 18-1 BHL and completed as a slim hole conventional well. ScoDe: The scope of work is as follows: Mill a section in the 9-5/8" casing and lay a cement plug below and across the section. Kick-off and drill a new 8-1/2" hole to TOS and set 7" L-80 casing. Switch mud system to Xanvis and drill 6" hole to TD of 100' MD below the prognosed top of Sadlerochit Base and install a 5" 15# 13CR liner. Run open hole logs. Recomplete with 4-1/2" by 3-1/2" tapered L-80 tubing. Timina: Rig 2ES will be making a pad to pad move from DS 9-31A to well DS 18-29A. The 18- 29A redrill is estimated to start up in mid-late April 1993. It will take approximately 13 days. CURRENT STATUS: Well 18-29 is currently suspended per AOGCC Sundry Approval No. 92-306. The 9-5/8" casing was plugged back to 9350' with an EZSV and approximately 150' of cement was lain on top. Well 18-29 was spudded on December 6, 1992 and temporarily abandoned 22 days later after experiencing a severe (20,000 bbl) lost circulation problem. The lost circulation occurred while drilling a complex fault system that cuts the Sadlerochit Formation along the south and west sides of the drillsite. After repeated attempts to control the loses, a BHA including a MWD Directional/GR tool became differentially stuck. After repeated attempts to free the assembly failed, the well was plugged back to the 9-5/8" casing shoe. This decision allowed for the continued drilling of the remaining two development wells at the drillsite while gaining time to review the drilling, geologic, and economic options for the well. A tag run to establish PBTD for the well has not been made but the cement plug is estimated at 9200' MD. Test intermediate casing pack-off to 3500 psi. Circulate diesel freeze protection cap from well and recover for future use. Install a BPV and tree test plug. Remove the production tree. Install BOP's and test to 5000 psi. Remove the test plug and BPV. Spot a 18 ppg pill on bottom and cut a 50' section in the 9-5/8" casing from about 8000' to 8050' MD. Spot a balanced cement kick-off plug (180 cubic feet minimum) from 100' below the base of the section to 200' above the top of the section. Dress off cement to 5' below section with 8-1/2" steerable drilling assembly. Kickoff well and directionally drill to align well with target. Drill with a 8-1/2" packed hole assembly to casing point at the top of the Sadlerochit sands. The top of the Sadlerochit should be at 8265' ss TVD or 9076' MD as per attached drilling plan. Run a 7" 29 # L-80 liner assembly to bottom in the 8-1/2" hole. Space the liner hanger and top isolation packer about 150' up inside the 9-5/8" casing. Cement the liner in place with the total cement volume based upon 40 % open-hole enlargement plus the shoe volume, lap volume and 150' excess on top of the liner with drillpipe in the hole. Re-test BOP's as needed. 'Run in with 6" steerable drilling assembly with directional/GR MWD on 4-1/2' x 3-1/2" drillpipe. Drill out float shoe and 10' of new hole. Displace well with non-damaging (Xanvis polymer) drilling fluid. See MI Drilling Fluids recomended displacement procedure. Drill approximately 6" hole to TD of 100' MD below the base of Sadlerochit as per attached directional plan. Make a conditioning trip with a 6" hole-opener for the open hole section and a 7" casing scraper spaced to clean the liner, run openhole logs. Install a 5" 13CR flush joint (STL) liner assembly to bottom in the 6" hole. Space the liner hanger and top isolation packer about 150' up inside the 7" casing. Cement the liner in place with the total cement volume based upon 30 % open-hole enlargement plus the shoe volume, lap volume and 150' excess on top of the liner with drillpipe in the hole. Circulate well clean with filtered sea water. Retest 9-5/8" wellhead packoff and replace as needed. Run a 4-1/2" / 3-1/2" L80 completion string and 7" packer. Space out, land completion. Test tubing by casing annulus to 3500 psi. Set two-way check valve. Remove BOP's. Install and test the production tree to 5000 psi with diesel. Pull the two-way check valve. Shear RP valve in the upper GLM and freeze protect the well. Set a BPV. Release workover rig. Complete appropriate documentation and hand-over to Production.
