As you are aware, MI will find a way to migrate even in good tight tubulars. Typically there will be a small gas pocket that we bleed down and fluid pack prior to doing MIT's. The gas is actually to our benefit during operation of the well to minimize annular pressure changes. We typically do not fluid pack these unless we are preparing to perform an MIT. Attached is our Ann Comm history for the well. There are some notes from a few years ago about high IA pressure plus diagnostic results. Nothing was really found to be wrong, plus the MITs have been good. We may have just missed this well for fluid packing prior to Scheve's visit. It would appear that 2M- 09A is a monobore, like 30 -19 and the others. 2M -09 had 7" casing set to TD as normal, but when the well was redrilled, the new wellbore was drilled from a window in the 7" casing not far below the 9 -5/8" shoe. If this well were to be proposed today, I believe that the 7" casing would be cut and pulled so a new string could be set. I see that Nordic 3 did the redrill, that rig would not likely have been capable of pulling the 7 ". An AA is probably the way to go. This would be the first monobore to be considered that way. According to the completion diagram, there is a properly sized nipple (actually a reducer) not far above the perforations. That would allow a plug to be run so the liner could be pressure tested. With regard to 2M -04, is it usual to find "lots of gas" on the annulus of what I presume are MI injectors ?? It would seem that the expectation is that the tubing does not leak MI. What is the history of 2M -04 ?? Call or message with questions /comments. Tom Maunder, PE AOGCC NSK Problem Well Supv wrote, On 8/13/2005 2:13 PM: 8/31/2010 Message 0.6V L Vi L • • Tom: After a phone conversation with Chuck Scheve regarding the Kuparuk MITs that were performed yesterday, we have a couple items that need to be dealt with. 1. Well 2M -04 (PTD1920930) had high IA pressure with a lot of gas so a drawdown test was performed. At the time of the test it was called a pass, but on review it appears to be more of a linear leakoff. Our plan is to check out the well, make sure it is fluid packed, and repeat the MIT. We will call the Inspector again to witness the MIT. 2. 2M -09A (PTD 1960900) schematic shows the well to be another with the packer located significantly up hole from regulatory requirements. The packer is at 4717' MD and the perf top is «2M- 09A.pdf» at 9084' MD (attached). 1 suspect we should file an Administrative Relief on the well for operating parameters we can agree on. Please let me know if concur with both of the plans proposed above. Isaacson Drilling Engineer Kuparuk Drill Site Development ARCO Alaska, Inc. P.O. Box 100360 Anchorage, AK 99510-0360 Requested annular disposal of cement washdown water from coiled tubing cement squeezes Dear Mr. Isaacson: The Commission has received your request for atrthorization for disposal of cement washdown water from cement squeeze operations in the annuli of wells currently being utilized by Parker Rig #245. The washdown water would be generated by cement sqUeeze operations on the following wells: 1Q-02A, 1Q-20A, 1Q-22, and 2M-09. Disposal would take place into the annuli of wells being used by Parker Rig #245 on drill sites IF, 2A, or 2M, for which annular disposal has already been authorized. ARCO Alaska, Inc. (ARCO) must demonstrate that complYing with the limitation of disposal through the annular space of a well on the same pad is imprudent. There are annuli available for disposal on the lQ pad. Thc cement squeeze operations will each generate an estimated 30-50 bbls of water and 1 bbl of cement. Grind and inject facilities are not required for disposal of the cement washdown water generated during these squeeze operations. Pending submittal of information that it is imprudent not to do so, thc Commission denies thc request by ARCO Alaska, Inc. to dispose of cement washdown water from thc 1Q-02A, 1Q-20A and 1Q-22 wells in thc annuli of wells not located on lQ pad. Thc ccrncnt washdown water from these wells may be either injected into annuli on the lQ pad, or disposed of in a Class I well. The Commission also suggests the cement washdown water from the 2M-09 well be temporarily stored and disposed of when Parker Rig #245 is conducting annular injection operations on the 2M pad. As an alternative to storage, the cement washdown water from the 2M-09 well may also be disposed of in a Class I well. David (W~ohnst~n~ Chairman J. David Norton, P.E. This waiver is requested to cover ARCO's cement squeeze operations on wells 1Q-02A, 1Q-20A, 1Q-22, and 2M-09. Each of the lQ wells were recently ddlled and completed. Due to difficulties in the cementing portion of the drilling operations, cement squeezes will be necessary pdor to bdnging the wells on service. Well 2M-09 is currently planned for sidetrack operations and a cement squeeze is necessary in order to plug and abandon the existing wellbore. The waiver being requested is to Section (d), Part (4) of 20 AAC 25.080, which limits the annular disposal of drilling waste, to drilling operations on the same drill pad as the annulus being injected into. ARCO requests the AOGCC grant permission to allow cement wash-water generated from cement squeeze operations on the aforementioned wells, be injected into the annulus being used at that time by Parker ¢245 on drill site 1F, 2A, or 2M. We appreciate your consideration of this request. If you have any questions or require any additional information on this matter, please contact me at 263-4622. Sincerely, h, William S. The permit to drill does not exempt you from obtaining additional permits required by law from other governmental agencies, and does not authorize conducting drilling operations until all other required permitting determinations are made. Blowout prevention equipment (BOPE) must be tested in accordance with 20 AAC 25.035. Sufficient notice (approximately 24 hours) of the BOPE test performed before drilling below the surface casing shoe must be given so that a representative of the Commission may witness the test. ~Notice may be given by contacting the Commission petroleum field inspector on the North Slope pager at 659-3607. Maximum anticipated surface pressure is calculated using a surface casing leak-off of 13.5 ppg EMW and a gas gradient of 0.11 psi/ft. This shows that formation breakdown would occur before a surface pressure of 1,641 psi could be reached. Therefore, ARCO Alaska, Inc. will test the BOP equipment to 3000 psi. The nearest well to 2M-09 is 2M-10. As designed, the minimum distance between the two wells would be 15' @ 0' MD. The wells would diverge from that point. Incidental fluids developed from drilling operations will be hauled to the nearest permitted disposal well or will be pumped down the surface/production casing annulus of the last well drilled. That annulus will be left with a non-freezing fluid during any extended shut down (> 4hr) in pumping operations. The annulus will be sealed with 175 sx of cement followed by arctic pack upon completion of fluid pumping. *Spud mud should be adjusted to a FV between 80-100 sec/qt to drill gravel beds.
