AAI's KRU State #2 16-10-10 ADL# 25672 Permit
AAI's KRU 34 11-10-1 ~
ADL~ 25660 Permit# 88-15
Texaco Prudhoe #1ADL# 28236 Permit# 82-121
We found all locations, with the exception of the Texaco
Prudhoe #1 location which is the subject of another report,
in compliance with AOGCC regulations for final location
clearance. I therefore recommend that final location
clearance status be granted to the AAI wells listed above.
Attached please find an AOGCC Surface Abandonment report for
each well listed.
In summary, I conducted the final location clearance
inspection on the above listed wells. I recommend that
final location clearance status be granted to all wells
except the Texaco Prudhoe #1 location. The photo's taken of
these locations were not developed as of this writing but
will be attached at a later date.

SECTION 1
SIDEWALL CORE
Field Procedures
Core Laboratories was not represented at the wellsite. Twenty-
eight rotary and twelve percussion sidewalls arrived at Core
Laboratories' Anchorage facility in March, 1990. The rotary
sidewalls were preserved in ProtectCore pouches, while the
percussion sidewalls arrived in jars. All samples were shipped
air freight.
Core Processing
Sample Preparation
Dean-Stark Sidewall Samples
Twenty-six rotary and nine percussion samples were selected for
Dean-Stark analysis. They were first cleaned of drilling mud and
cut into shapes approximating right cylinders. The samples were
then weighed, placed in thimbles, and loaded into the Dean Stark.
The remaining two rotary anf three percussion sidewalls were too
small for analysis.
Analysis Techniques
Dean-Stark Fluid Saturation Measurements
Water was extracted from the sidewall samples by Dean-Stark
technique using toluene. Samples were left in Dean-Stark for 24
hours. Recovered waters were measured and the samples were left
in the Dean-Stark for hydrocarbon extraction an extra six days.
Extracted samples were dried in a convection oven at 220 degrees
F. for a minimum of 24 hours, and cooled in a desiccator to room
temperature before porosity and permeability were measured.
Saturations by Dean-Stark methods were calculated using
Equations 1 and 2.
So- [((W1 - W2 - H20)/Do)/Vp] x 100
(i)
Where:
Sw = [H20/Vp] x 100
(2)
So = Oil Saturations, Percent
Sw = Water Saturation, Percent
Wi = Natural Weight
W2 = Extracted and Dried Weight
H20 = Extracted Water, Density Assumed 1.0 gm/cc
Do = Density of Oil
Vp = Pore Volume
Grain Density
Grain volume determinations were performed according to Boyle's
Law utilizing the Helium Porosimeter. Grain density was
calculated using Equation 3.
Dg = Mg/Vg (3)
Where:
Dg = Grain Density
Vg = Grain Volume
Mg = Grain Mass
Atmospheric Porosity
The samples were measured for bulk volume by mercury
displacement at ambient conditions. Porosity was calculated
using Equation 4.
P = [(Vb-Vg) / Vb) ] x 100
(4)
Where:
P = Porosity, Percent
Vb = Bulk Volume
Vg = Grain Volume
Atmospheric Permeability to Air
Samples were loaded into a Hassler type core holder at a
confining pressure of 200 psig. Permeability calculations were
performed as defined by Darcy's Equation for compressible fluids,
Equation 6.
Pa x v x 1000
(Pl - P2) (Pl +P2)
Qa x Lx L
x (6)
Vb
Where: K = Permeability
v = Gas Viscosity
P1 - P2 = Differential Pressure
P1 + P2
= Mean Pressure
Pa = Atmospheric Pressure
Qa = Flow Rate
L = Length
Vb = Bulk Volume
Special Conditions And Interpretations
Five of the samples were comprised largely of drilling mud, and
therefore unusable for any analysis. Eight additional samples
were badly broken and thus unsuitable for permeability
measurements. Other measurements were, however, not affected by
the breaks. The table below identifies the above mentioned
samples.
Sample # Depth Type
Excluded Analysis
1 6944.5 Rotary Permeability
3 6946.0 Rotary Permeability
9 6949.3 Rotary Permeability
14 6955.0 Rotary Permeability
14 6957.5 Rotary Permeability
22 6991.0 Rotary Permeability
23 6991.5 Rotary All
27 7001.0 Rotary All
2 6947 Percussion All
3 6948 Percussion All
4 6953 Percussion Permeability
10 6974 Percussion Permeability
12 6990 Percussion All
It was observed that all rotary sidewalls were not drilled
parallel to the bedding, but intersected the bedding at oblique
angles. Therefore, the reported permeabilities are probably lower
than true horizontal permeabilities.
Finally, some drilling mud may have remained in the fractures
of the percussion samples. The greatest effect from this
potential problem is that water saturations tend to be reported
as higher than they would for totally mud free samples.
Sample Disposition
Upon completion of the analysis all sidewall samples were
delivered to ARCO's Jim Sallee. See appendix for disposition of
all samples received.

cement plugs. (10.4 ppg)
Ensure sand plug in KRU State #1--~;~1~ has been cleaned out to 100' below
the bottom perforation.
Rig up slickline unit. RIH and pull DV from GLM above permanent packer.
Displace well to 10.4 ppg mud.
Bullhead Class G cement plug to 100' below bottom perforation up to permanent
packer. Circulate cement so that 100' cement will be ontop of packer in tubing
and tubing/casing annulus.
Wait on cement 12 hours. Pressure test cement plug to 500 psi. Record results.
Rig up E-line unit. RIH and perforate the tubing from 200'-220'. Rig down E-
line unit.
Rig up cement equipment and flow back tanks. Bullhead 450 sk cement plug down
7" x 9-5/8" annulus (2500 linear feet). After bullheading annulus plug,
circulate cement down tubing and up annulus thru tubing perforations. After
good cement returns are obtained, shut well in.
Wait on cement a minimum of 12 hours. ND tree and remove. Cut the wellhead
assembly off three feet below ground level.

The permit to drill does not exempt you from obtaining additional
permits required by law from other governmental agencies, and
does not authorize conducting drilling operations until all other
required permitting determinations are made.
To aid us in scheduling field work, please notify this office 24
hours prior to commencing installation of the blowout prevention
equipment so that a representative of the Commission may be
present to witness testing of the equipment before the surface

CONFIDEI{TIAL
Subject: KRU State #1-14-10-9 and KRU State #2-16-10-10
Gentlemen:
Attached are applications for permits to drill for two Kuparuk River Unit Delineation
Wells for the spring 1990 drilling season. In both of these wells the base of the West
Sak formation is between 3200'-3600' in total vertical depth. ARCO Alaska, Inc.
requests an administrative variance be granted to allow setting the 9-5/8" surface
casing several hundred feet past the West Sak formation in these two wells per each
application. This follows standard practice on development wells in this field, and will
allow a safer and more economical operation.
Additionally, in the surface usage permits to the North Slope Borough, DNR, and ADEC
these wells were originally named Kuparuk State #1 and Kuparuk State #2. To avoid
confusion with other similarly named north slope wells, the names were changed to the
above list names. The North Slope Borough, ADNR, and ADEC have been notified of the
name change under a separate letter.
Thank you for your consideration on this matter. Any questions pertaining to this
request should be directed to James Blalack at 263-4984, or to me at 263-4622.
Yours truly,

Notes:
Drilling fluid practices will be in accordance with the appropriate
regulations stated in 20 AAC 25.033.
Maximum anticipated surface pressure is calculated using a surface
casing leak-off of 12.5 ppg EMW and a gas gradient of 0.11 psi/ft. This
shows that formation breakdown would occur before a surface pressure
of 3000 psi could be reached. Therefore, ARCO Alaska, Inc. will test the
BOP equipment to 3000 psi.
There are no other wells in this section.
Excess non-hazardous fluids developed from well operations will be
pumped down the surface/production casing annulus. The annulus will be
left with a non-freezing fluid during any extended shut down in pumping
operations.
