This well adds additional gas deliverability from the South Barrow Gas Field to the village of Barrow Alaska, and augments production from the East Barrow Gas Field which is expected to decline significantly within three years. Initial production shows that the well will produce comfortably at 350 - 450 Mcf/day as currently complete (Figure 1). However, due to village gas demand, increasing the performance of this well is desirable. Fracture stimulation of SB #13, a 160 acre offset to NSB #1, increased production from a calculated rate of 160 Mcf/day when the well was initially tested, to actual production of 400 MCF/day, with a maximum measured rate of 1178 Mcf/day through a 24/64" choke at 500 psig. Based on this experience, we feel that NSB #1 deliverability would also benefit from fracture treatment, particularly when the lithologic nature of the reservoir is considered (Appendix I). The planned procedures will closely follow those employed for the nitrogen foam fracture treatment of SB #13 utilizing the same contractor. Fracture design will be per specifications in Appendix II following the specific detailed procedures as identified on the following page. We currently expect proposed operations to begin on or about April 2, 1988. NSB #10ps. Sumary North Slope Borough Page 2 of 2 02/03/88 Detailed Operations Plan The stimulation of NSB #1, as detailed in the following, will commence with a general meeting between Halliburton and Barrow Gas Field Development personnel to review general safety and Arctic operation procedures. Description of Operation & Materials ® · · · · · · · General rig-up of Halliburton equipment at NSB #1 wellsite. Test nitrogen lines to 5000 psi; bleed nitrogen down to 2000 psi. Test Csg. Value to 1000 psi. Close 2" Lo-Torc and test to 3000 psi; bleed back to 600 psi. Open Csg Value and Lo-Torc, start 25 bbl 7% KCL pre-flush. Pad, I.S.I.P.; begin 2.5# 20/40 sand, then 4.5# sand, then 8.5# sand; go to flush with 5 bbls Versa Gel (7.5 PPG). Begin nitrogen displacement @ 2500 scf/min and 1500 psi; increase to 3500 scf/min @ 1500 psi; increase to 3500 scf/min @ 2000 psi; reach total displacement. R.D. Halliburton; P.O.P. The well encountered 87 feet of light brown to brownish gray, fine to very fine grain glauconitic sandstone, interbedded with siltstones and thin shale stringers. Average core porosity was found to be 26.3%, kh = 26.3 md, approximate Sw = 50%, all dipping 2© SW. The Upper Barrow tends to be very fine grain, glauconitic and heavily burrowed, while the Lower Barrow is fine to lower medium grain, with minor glauconite and few perserved burrows. April ZZ, 1987 Mr. Ron Chapman North Slope Borough 3Z01 C Street Anchorage, Alaska 99503 RE: NSB North Slope Borough, Alaska Dear Ron: One Z0 ft., 7 in., 3Z lb/ft, Pll0 PAYZONETM inflatable formation packer was successfully installed on April 15, 1987. The rubber element was positioned from Z,397-Z,417 ft. measured depth using the pipe tally and tagging bottom. The attached pressure chart, well schematic, job log, debriefing report, and data sheet provide a description of the installation. The inflation volume '(.1 bbls) is, within accuracy of measurement, equivalent to an average hole size of 8-1/Z inches in diameter. Total inflation pressure (1943 psi) is the hydrostatic pressure inside casing (1343 psi) plus the applied surface pressure (600 psi). If the reservoir pressure is 700 psi, this will exert a 1Z43 psi seal load (inflation pressure minus ,' reservoir pressure) against the borehole wall. · Please call if we can be of further assistance. The following are the results from the buildup analysis: Permeability thickness 736 md ft. Effective permeability to gas 23 md Reported thickness 32 ft. Extrapolated reservoir pressure 660.5 psi Skin damage 5.5 Pressure drop due to skin 45 psi The total pressure drop during the drawdown period is 127.76 psi out of which pressure drop due to skin is 45 psi Since the f!owrate was not very high, most of the skin factor should be due to fo~maticn damage only and not from the effects of turbulence. An acid job should be helpful to increase the productivity of this well. Physical properties in our calculations were obtained from correlations. Chapman: Attached for your files are approved applications for permits to drill North Slope Borough Wells ~ 2, 3, 4 and 7. You will note that the approval date for these Permit to Drill Forms is subsequent to the actual drilling of the wells. The delay in processing these permits results from "honest differ- ences of opinion" which culminated in a June 22, 1987 agreement between the Borough and the Commission.
