Dear John'
Re: Standard Oil Co. of California
#1 Nimiuk
I took the liberty of having two small chips of core from the interval 6299-
6305 analyzed by Chemical and Geological Laboratories of Alaska, Inc. These
chips were a brown translucent mineral which is associated with the dark
dolomites of this core.
Test results showed this mineral to be a zinc sulfide containing 56% zinc,
2.1% iron and 20%+ acid insoluble residue which resembled sulfur. Some
reations with HCL was noted and was probably from a dolomite portion although
sample was not tested for calcium and magnesium.
It is my opinion from visual examination and laboratory test that this is an
impure sphalerite.
Sincerely yours,
' Ronald Brockway /

SUBJECT: Mineralogy of Core Chips from Alaska State Well Sample Library
The attached table summarizes the sem~quantitative mineralogy, determined
by X-ray diffraction, of core chips of the Sadlerochit sandstone obtained
from the Alaska State Well Sample Library. As indicated in the request for
service, we have returned all of the core material to Kick Sherwood in
Anchorage via air parcel post. If you have any questions about these
results, please call me at the Research Center at X3473.
