Subject: 1 R-18 Acid Treatment Jim, I am confirming our discussion yesterday about the need fora 403 or 404 for a HCI acid treatment on CPA's cuss 11 disposal well 1 R-18 at Kuparuk. Recently we have disposed of a large amount of CaCO down 1 R-18 from the completion fluid from 3K-103 and 3K-108 which resulted in the a decreased infectivity. An Acid Treatment is required to dissolve the CaCO. Based on our discussion, you said that a 403 or 404 would not be required because it is similar to a tubing acid job to clean-up tubing and near well bore scale. Please let me know if you have any comments or questions on ~the~ ~t-18 HCI Acid Treatment. Have a Happy New Year, Randall Kanady, P.E. Diagnostic testing is not specifically addressed in the AIO, however falloff testing certainly qualifies as such testing and is a method of demonstrating mechanical integrity. We look forward to receiving the information when you have analyzed and prepared it. Please call with any questions. Tom Maunder, PE AOGCC Scott B Rennie wrote: Wendy Mahan suggested I send you a quick note to let you know about work we have planned for the lR-18 Class II disposal well next week. As you and I have discussed, we are evaluating drilling a new Class II well at drillsite 1J (WSak Pilot Pad) late this year or next year. To support the evaluation work, we have planned a simple pressure falloff test on 1R-18. The test will involve a stabilized injection period of about 1500 bbl followed by a 48-hour shutin period. Most of the 1500 bbls to be injected will be Class II fluid, but some volume may be made up with non-Class II seawater, including a well flush at the end of the job. The well will also be freeze protected with 20 bbls of diesel. I anticipate the injection period will occur Monday or Tuesday so I must apologize for the short notice. Please let me know if you have any issues with the planned work. Subject: Re: 1R-18 Workover Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2002 15:36:40 -0900 From: Tom Maunder <tom_maunder@admin.state.ak. us> To: Vern M Coyner <vmcoyne@ppco.com> Skip, Thanks for the elaboration regarding the changes to the plans for the 1R-18 workover. I have a clearer picture of the scope change reasoning. By copy of this email, your proposed changes are accepted. Good luck with the workover. Please call with any questions. Tom Maunder, PE AOGCC Vern M Coyner wrote: After reviewing the diagnostic work done on this well, we have changed the scope of work described in the Sundry Notice #302-023. The diagnostic work proved that both the packer and the 9-5/8" casing could pass an MIT to 2000 psi. There is no reason to suspect a problem with the 9-5/8" casing and therefore neither logs nor repairs are necessary at this time. The seal assembly in the packer is retrievable and it has extra seal stacks. These extra seals have protected the entire seal bore from wellbore fluids, corrossion and damage. As such, the packer seal bore is expected to be re-usable. We plan to run a PBR with a new seal assembly to sting in to the existing packer. The PBR will give us "floating seals" to compensate for temperature and pressure effects on the tubing throughout its life. The 3-1/2" tubing should reduce the injection pressure. In that we have no reason to mill the packer or to run a USIT log, we have no reason to pull the 7" concentric kill string. The revised scope of work includes: laying down the 2-7/8" tubing and replacing it with 3-1/2" tubing. The 2-7/8" tubing does leak: 0.25 bpm at 3000 psi. A PDS caliper survey was run in August, 2001, and it showed two (2) partially collapsed or buckled joints between 3000' and 3100'. We suspect temperature effects are partially ~to blame and perhaps interference between the tubing collars and the bottom of the 7" kill string. If you have any questions or require further clarification, please call. Your help is appreciated. The caliper recordings indicate that most of the tubing is in good condition, with only 7 joints showing maximum recorded wall penetrations in excess of 20% wall thickness. However, serious damage is indicated in Joints 94 & 95 ( @ 3031', 3045' & 3050'), where there are three separate events recorded that appear to be collapsed, and possibly split tubing, in all three cases, the tubing appears to be "mashed in" on one side, with one caliper finger extending beyond tubing wall thickness - within the "mashed in" portion of the tubing circumference. A 3D Log plot of the interval 3015' - 3085', as well as cross-sectional drawings of the tubing at the location of each collapsed area are included in this report. Title AREA DRILLING ENGINEER Date INSTRUCTIONS General: This form is designed for submitting a complete and correct well completion report and log on all types of lands and leases in Alaska. Item 1' Classification of Service Wells: Gas injection, water injection, steam injection, air injection, salt water disposal, water supply for injection, observation, injection for in-situ combustion. Item 5: Indicate which elevation is used as reference (where not otherwise shown) for depth measurements given in other spaces on this form and in any attachments. Item 16 and 24: If this well is completed for separate production from more than one interval (multiple completion), so state in item 16, and in item 24 show the producing intervals for only the interval reported in item 27. Submit a separate form for each additional interval to be separately produced, showing the data pertinent to such interval. Item 21' Indicate whether from ground level (GL) or other elevation (DF, KB, etc.). Item 23: Attached supplemental records for this well should show the details of any multiple stage cement- ing and the location of the cementing tool. Item 27: Method of Operation: Flowing, Gas Lift, Rod Pump, Hydraulic Pump, Submersible, Water In- jection, Gas Injection, Shut-in, Other-explain. Item 28: If no cores taken, indicate "none". Form 10-407 February 11, 1992 Kuparuk River Unit Well 1R-18 API 50-029-22188 ARCO Alaska, Inc. requested a variance to 20 AAC 25.030(g)(3) which requires a cement bond log to be run in injection wells to verify zone isolation. Well 1R-18 had two cement inflatable external casing packers located at 4064 feet and 4185 feet, above and below the perforated injection zone. Due to the design of the packers, which includes nitrile inflation elements and a rough-coated mandrel, a cement bond log would have been inconclusive. Sundry approval #91-208 was received on July 16, 1991 to run a pump-in temperature survey. The survey, which is attached, was run on July 20, 1991, verifying zone isolation. 1R-18 was permitted to drill as a temporary disposal well (permit #91- 87) to be used while drilling on 1R pad. It was planned to eventually deepen 1R-18 to a Kuparuk target, and permit #91-120 to deepen it was approved on September 16, 1991. However, 1R-18's Kuparuk target was drilled from another surface location (1R-21), and ARCO requested ca_ncella~_.__.tion of permit #91-120 on September 26, 1991. 1R- 18 will no longer be needed as surface casing for a Kuparuk production well and will remain as a permanent disposal well. This form 407 is intended to close out: Permit to Drill #91-87 Permit to Deepen #91-120 Sundry Approval #91-208. RECEIVED F~B 1 9 199~ Alaska 0il & Gas Cons. Commission Anchorage ARCO ALASKA INC. Well 1R-18 will be used as a temporary disposal well with 9-5/8-inch casing and then later drilled and completed as a Kuparuk producer. Unlike typical Kuparuk wells, 1R-18 has two cement inflatable external casing packers located at 4064 feet and 4185 feet, above and below the injection zone to be perforated. Due to the design of the packers, which includes nitrile inflation elements and a rough-coated mandrel, a cement bond log will be inconclusive. We propose to perforate the injection zone and run a pump-in temperature survey to verify zone isolation. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 263-4638 or Wayne McBride at 263-4962. Sincerely, E.D.
