Subject: Corrosion Inhibitor Treatments of MPS -Pad
Dear Mr. Maunder,
Enclosed please find multiple copies of a spreadsheet with a list of wells from MPS -Pad
that were treated with corrosion inhibitor in the surface casing by conductor annulus.
The corrosion inhibitor is engineered to prevent water from entering the annular space
and causing external corrosion that could result in a surface casing leak to atmosphere.
The attached spreadsheet represents the well name, API and PTD numbers, top of
cement depth prior to filling and volumes of corrosion inhibitor used in each conductor.
As per previous agreement with the AOGCC, this letter and spreadsheet serve as
notification that the treatments took place and meet the requirements of form 10 -404,
Report of Sundry Operations.
If you require any additional information, please contact me or my alternate, Gerald
Murphy, at 659 -5102.
Sincerely, ri )

Steve,
Thanks for the additional information regarding the VSP surveys. I had some
questions from the inspectors regarding the work. You had described the work in
the original permit to drill applications for the S pad wells. This message
gives further details regarding the operation. It is interesting that there are
individual BOP stacks on the wells. Regardless, the wells are still
unperforated and will remain so until4ES completes the wells. You have
approval to proceed with the operations as you describe. I will copy this
message and place it in the respective well files. You do not need to provide a
403 for the operations. Please call if you have any questions.

Dear Mr. Archey
Enclosed is the approved application for permit to drill the above referenced well.
The pennit to drill does not exempt you from obtaining additional permits required by law from other
governmental agencies, and does not authorize conducting drilling operations until all other required
permitting detenninations are made.
Annular disposal has not been requested as part of tbe Pennit to Drill application for Milne Point Unit S-
15i.
A full suite of fonnation evaluation logs, mud log, and formation samples are required from conductor
depth to TD.
The blowout prevention equipment (BOPE) must be tested in accordance with 20 AAC 25.035; and the
mechanical integrity (MI) of the injection wells must be demonstrated under 20 AAC 25.412 and 20 AAC
25.030(g)(3). Sufficient notice (approximately 24 hours) of the MI test before operation, and of the
BOPE test perfonned before drilling below the surface casing shoe, must be given so that a representative
of the Commission may witness the tests. Notice may be given by contacting the Commission petroleum
field inspector on the North Slope pager at 659-3607.

carry out this drill when open hole sections are exposed.
3.2. Lost Circulation
3.2.1. Lost circulation has not been encountered while drilling this interval on previous offset wells, but
has been seen during cement jobs. Make sure and condition the mud prior to running and
cementing casing. Be prepared to do a top job if required.
3.2.2. Follow the LOST CIRCULATION DECISION MATRIX in the well plan if fluid losses occur while
drilling. Break circulation slowly in all instances and get up to recommended circulating rate slowly
prior to cementing.
3.3. Unexpected High Pressures
3.3.1. It is unlikely there will be unexpected overpressure when drilling to the Schrader Bluff formation.
Reservoir pressure is expected to be 1893 psi (8.65 Ib/gal). In this well, the Schrader Bluff
formation will be drilled with 9.1 ppg mud. This well we be drilled in the undrained portion of the
MPH-08 fault block. Offset injectors that have above normal shut-in pressures will be shut-in prior
to drilling this well. Some of the wells on H-pad have experienced sever gas cut mud well below
the permafrost. Have gas detector installed prior to drilling on S-pad.
3.4. Stuck Pipe
3.4.1. Good drilling practices to avoid differential sticking are required. Minimum mud weights and proper
mud properties as outlined in the MI mud program must be closely followed.
3.4.2. Stuck Pipe: Go immediately to SURE manual, determine stuck pipe mechanism, follow
recommendations in the SURE manual. DO NOT JAR UP if packed-off!
3.5. Pad Data Sheet
3.5.1. Please Read the S-Pad (based on offset wells drilled in same fault block) Data Sheet thoroughly.
3.6. Hydrates
3.6.1. Have been seen in offset wells and is likely on this well. Follow RP for controlling Hydrates.
3.7. Breathing
3.7.1. No breathing problems are expected drilling the Ugnu or the Schrader Bluff formations.
2
Schrader Bluff S Pad Development MPS-15i Drilling Permit
3.8. Hydrocarbons
3.8.1. Hydrocarbons will be encountered in the Ugnu and Schrader Bluff intervals. Free gas maybe
encountered below the upper Ugnu.

MPU S-15i
Shallow Aquifer Protection b)' Proposed Surface Casing
(Notes to File)
BP proposes to drill the MPU S-l 5i water injection well in the south\vest comer of the
Milne Point Unit. Ihis well \vill be the first \vell drilled from the Milne Point Unit S-
Pad.
Ihe concern is that proposed surface casing will protect all kno\vn USDW's. AEO 2
provides exemption for shallo\\1' aquifers at Milne Point within various sections in TI3N~
R 9,10,11 E, but the proposed S-15i well lies in S. 12, TI2N, R IOE~ \vhich is about 1.5
miles south of AEO 2 exempted area.
Io check if the proposed surface casing will protect all kno\vn USDW~s, well records and
AEO 2 tiles \vere examined for \vater samples, and IDS calculations were performed
using \velllogs.
Water Sample Data
MPU CPF-I water source \vell (located 3 miles NNE of S-15i) was open from 2905 -
331 O~ MD (2608 - 3088' TVD) in 1986~ and IDS values for water san1ples taken on Jan.
3.1986 and Jan. 6,1986 were measured at 3162 ppm and 2500 ppm, respectively.
Conoco's Production Research Division (PRD) measured "salt" concentration in samples
from CPF-l at 3260 ppm. AEO documents indicate that four \vater samples from the
MPU B-Ol \\1'ell (located 4.5 miles NNE ofS-15i) ranged from 3160 to 3539 ppm IDS.
TDS Calculations from Well Logs
Well logs from the Texaco Prudhoe #1 and MPU H-Ol \vells were used to quickly
calculate IDS content of well-developed shallow sands beneath the pern1afrost using
resistivity and porosity data. The SP technique was not used as the SP data are
notoriously erratic at Milne Point.

Log analysis is complicated in this portion of the Milne Point Unit by shallo\v gas, \vhich
causes calculated salinity values to be unrealistically low by overestimating the porosity
of the sand. An excellent example is found in the MPU H-Ol \vell. TDS calculations
were performed in a sand consisting oft\vo lobes that are separated by a 4-foot thick
shale.
The lower sand lobe clearly sho\vs cross-over of the density and neutron porosity curves,
indicating that gas is present in the sand. TDS calculations for this sand lobe yield a
value of 1570 ppm using the density porosity and resistivity data (porosity derived from
density curve alone matched provided the closest match to the laboratory water analysis
results ).
The overlying sand lobe, \vhich is separated by a 4-foot thick shale layer, sho\v density
and neutron curves that are widely separated, indicating a lack of gas \vithin the sand.
TDS calculations for this upper sand lobe yield a value of 3026 ppm using the density
porosity and resistivity. The TDS calculations for the upper sand lobe agree very \veIl
\vith the 3160 to 3539 ppm value range derived from 5 of the 6 \vater samples taken fron1
the MPU CPF-l and B-1 \veIls, and \vith the 3260 ppm concentration measured in CPF-l
by Conoco' s PRD group.
Summary
Surface casing in proposed S-15i \\iill be set at 2548' MD (2482' TVD). Water sample
data and log calculations indicate the salinity of the sands at this depth and below \vill be
greater than 3000 ppm. Surface casing set at the proposed depth in MPU S-15i will
protect potential sources of drinking \vater having salinity less than 3000 ppm.
