Permit #86-75
Kuparuk River Field
Tuesday. & Wednesday, April 8 & 9, 1986: I,~en I arrived at the rig a
Baker cement retainer was b~i~g run in the 9 5/8" casing. The crew
attempted to set the retainer at 3580', but it would not set.
Another retainer was run and set at 3580', and the casing was
pressured up to 2000 psig. After 4~ minutes the pressure dropped to
400 psig indicating the casing had ruptured. It was decided to
proceed with the cement job. A 64 sk slurry was then mixed and
pumped, leaving 50' of cement on top of the retainer.
An RTTS tool was then run in the hole and the casing leak was found
at 1365'. It was then decided to set a 300' plug from 150' below the
leak to 150' above the leak.
At this time I requeSted that the 50' of cement on top of the
z"etainer be tagged. After finding only 4' on top of the retainer, a
70 sk slurry (11.9 bbls) was placed on top of the retainer.
At this time the D.P. was pulled up to 1509' and a 150 sk slurry of
B.J. Cold Set I was pumped with the calculated top of cement at
1209'.
Mike Thornton, AP. CO rep., informed me that the rig would be moved off
the location and the top 150' plug would be placed later. The D.P.
was then pulled up to 1150'±, and the drilling mud was displaced with
9.8 16/gal brine.
In summary, I witnessed the plugging of the well bore on ARCO's
31-15.

Dear Mr. Kewin:
Enclosed is the approved application for permit to drill the
above referenced well.
The permit to drill does not indemnify you from the probable need
to obtain additional permits required by law from other
governmental agencies prior to commencing operations at the well
site.
To aid us in scheduling field work, please notify this office 24
hours prior to commencing installation of the blowout prevention
equipment so that a representative of the Commission may be
present to witness testing of the equipment before the sure, ace
casing shoe is drilled. T~H~ere a diverter system is required,
please also notify this office 24 hours prior to commencing
equipment installation so that the Commission may witness testing
before drilling below the shoe of the conductor pipe.

SUBJECT: Kuparuk 31-15
Dear Mr. Chatterton:
Enclosed is a Permit to Drill application for Kuparuk 31-15. We
estimate spudding this well on March 31, 1986. This well is the
last scheduled well for this rig in the Kuparuk River Field. We
propose to drill this well using the attached diverter diagram. We
are therefore requesting a variance for this Kuparuk well that will
allow it to overlap into the time that the new regulations go into
effect. Due to marginal reservoir development in the immediate
southern 3I-pad area, we anticipate that this will be the last well
drilled on the subject pad, after which the rig will be released
for work in the Prudhoe Bay area.
If you have any questions, please call me at 263-4970.

22. Describe proposed program:
ARCO Alaska, Inc., proposes to drill a Kuparuk River Field development well to approximately 7797'ND (6424'TVD).
Selected intervals will be logged. A 20", 2000 psi annular diverter will be installed on the 16" conductor whilei
drilling the surface hole. The 13-5/8", 5000 psi, RSRRA BOP stack will be installed on the 9-5/8" surface casing.
The stack and related equipment will be tested to 3000 psig upon installation and weekly thereafter. Expected
maximum surface pressure is 2819 psi. Pressure calculations are based on virgin reservoir pressure. Surface
pressure is calculated with an unexpanded gas bubble at surface, including temperature effects. Casing will be
tested to 3500 psi prior to releasing the drilling rig. Non-freezing fluids will be left in uncemented annuli
through the permafrost interval. 31-15 will be 25' away from 31-14 at the surface. There are no closer wellbore~
anywhere downhole. Reserve pit fluid will be disposed of by pumping them down the 7" x 9-5/8" annulus of this
well. The 7" x 9-5/8" annulus will be left with a non-freezing fluid (continued on attached sheet)

during any interruptions in the disposal process. Upon completion of the disposal process, the 9-5/8" x 7"

the workover rig using 3-1/2" or 2-7/8" tubing. Selected intervals will be perforated within the Kuparuk

conclusion of the job. After the workover rig has moved off location, this well will be fracture stimulated.
