Copper River Basin, Alaska by I {? ~" Aledo Oil Company, Inc. ¡ cw ¡.. (;::/ e /,/f-/,-1 l.- I:- "- > ;'\ ,-' .'" ~ , 1,,· - ,. '"'1 e GEOLOGIC REPORT PROPOSED EUREKA UNIT The geologic map attached hereto as Exhibit "c" and by refer- ence made a part hereof represents a combination of surface strike and dip observations, photo interpretation and U.S.G.A. Map G.P. 156, 100 unit contours. There is complete agreement between the photo interpre- tation and surface observations and, while magnetometer surveys are not capable of exact structural determination, they do appear to be compat- ible with applicant's structural interpretation in the proposed Eureka Unit area. The Eureka anticline is a typical arcuate foothills structure with a main axis traceable for ten miles in a SW-NE direction and which e may extend several miles further north-northeast as suggested by the drainage pattern. A number of minor folds are developed on the flanks of the Eureka anticline which has also been severely faulted in the southwestern portion of the proposed unit area. The surface of the proposed unit has a thin cover of various types of glacial deposits and a few widely scattered outcrops of Mata- nuska Shale. In 1953 Alaska Oil & Gas Development Company defined the southwestern end of the main anticline by digging a number of shallow test pits to determine dip and strike. This work was the basis for the location of the test well started by Alaska Oil & Gas Development Company subsequently taken over by Aledo Oil Company, Inc. and com- pleted as their #1 Eureka Federal which reached a depth of 4818'. e This test started and ended in Matanuska Shale and at T.D. was be- lieved on lithologic and poleontologic grounds to have been near the e base of the shale. Applicant believes, on the basis of presently avail- able information, that the Aledo #1 Eureka Federal was located several miles southwest of the most promising part of the Eureka anticline. Based on the results of the Aledo #1 Eureka Federal, on field observations and pn published reports of the U.S.G.S. including Map 1-314 and Bulletin 1094, the following stratigraphic section is expected: STRATIGRAPHIC COLUMN, EUREKA UNIT 0 - 25 Pleistocene gravel. 25 - 5000 Matanuska shale. 5000 - 6000 Lower Cretaceous sandstone, limestone and shale. 6000 - 7000 Upper Jurassic, Naknek or Chinitna formations. e 7000 - 8000 Middle Jurassic, Tuxedni formation. 8000 - 8500 Lower Jurassic, Talkeetna formation. The possible pay zones and their depths are as follows: 5000 - 6000 Lower Cretaceous sands and possibly the Nelchina lime somewhere in this interval~ 6000 - 8000 The exact section is impos- sible to forecast but there may be sands present in the Upper or Middle Jurassic. It is anticipated that the Unit Test Well will be drilled to 8500', unless commercial production be found at a lesser depth. Operator will test all shows at whatever depth found according to sound engineer- ing practice. e - 2 - 4-39(JI/I. 7þ._u__________ Range _ __ _ _ _ n ___ ____n___ .___._________ ___ _ _ ___ M~r. __ m ____m__um______m__.Land Disf. . .
