Good afternoon Mel,
Could you please clarify AOGCC’s request regarding the M-03 wellbore? According to
our review of the AOGCC archive, the M-03 wellbore was abandoned by the prior
operator. We also noted a related notice of violation issued to that operator on March 6,
2018.
Given that Mustang Holding did not perform the abandonment and does not possess the
full operational history, is AOGCC requesting that we file the Form 10-407 report to the
best of our knowledge based on the publicly available records?
Thank you for your guidance.
Best regards,
Josh

Subject: PTD 215-007 SMU M-03 10-407 abandonment for redrill
Josh, Gabriela,
AOGCC does not have record of the abandonment 10-407 for well SMU M-03,
PTD(215-007). This report is required per:
20 AAC 25.010. Re-entry of a suspended well.
(a) Before re-entering a suspended well to conduct completion operations, the operator
shall submit and obtain the commission's approval of an Application for Sundry
Approvals (Form 10-403). The Application for Sundry Approvals must set out the current
condition of the well and the proposed program for completion operations.
(b) Before re-entering a suspended well to conduct drilling operations, the operator shall
submit and obtain the commission's approval of an application for a Permit to Drill (Form
10-401) in conformance with 20 AAC 25.005.
(c) The operator shall file with the commission within 30 days after completion,
abandonment, or suspension of the well a Well Completion or Recompletion Report and
Log (Form 10-407) and all information required by 20 AAC 25.070(3) and 20 AAC 25.071.

COMMENTS RUN 1
The objective of the run was to spud the well and drill to the surface casing point
following the directional plan with a 2.5°/100ft dogleg severity (DLS).
The BHA was composed of a 12 ¼” Hughes VMD-3 bit, 9 ⅝” PDM with
adjustable bent housing set at 1.5°, 12 ⅛” NM stabilizer, ARCvision 825 LWD,
TeleScope MWD, NM UBHO, 12 ⅛” NM stabilizer, Bottleneck XO sub, 3 flex
NMDC, saver sub, 9 joints 5” HWDP, hydraulic drilling jars, and 8 joints 5”
HWDP. The expected DLS yield with the mud motor adjustable bent housing set
at 1.5° was 4° - 8°/100ft for 100% sliding.
The BHA yielded 2.2°-5.8°/100ft MO while sliding in the permafrost and 3.8°-
7.6°/100ft MO while sliding below the permafrost (most being ~6°/100ft) and
showed a slight dropping tendency when rotating. There were no observed
downhole problems, and the directional objectives were successfully
achieved. Low flow rates, below the mud motor specifications, were used to start
drilling below the conductor and were slowly increased to a final rate of 630 gpm
toward total depth of the section. We did not back ream while drilling.
After drilling to total depth for the casing point and circulating the hole clean the
rig back reamed every stand including HWDP. During this process some
surveys were taken to replace old surveys that had magnetic interference due to
solar flaring. The trip went very well with very minimal drag observed so the
decision was made to lay down the BHA and run casing.
The bit was graded 2-2-WT-A-E-1/16-NO-TD.
Casing was run to bottom without any reported issues.

COMMENTS RUN 2
The objective of the run was to drill the casing float equipment, cement, shoe and
drill to the intermediate casing point following the directional plan with a tangent
then a 3.0°/100ft dogleg severity (DLS) at the end.
The BHA was composed of a 8 ¾” Hycalog PDC SKH519M-B1C bit, 6 ¾” RSS
Xceed, arcVISION 675 LWD, TeleScope MWD, 8 1/2” NM stabilizer, 3 Flex
NMDC, saver sub, 9 joints 5” HWDP, hydraulic drilling jars, and 8 joints 5”
HWDP.
The BHA performed perfectly directionally, but another severe problem was
encountered: the topdrive would occasionally bounce so severely that WOB
fluctuated from 0 to 12 klbs and the drillpipe would vibrate in a standing wave
with about 6” magnitude. We reduced the problem significantly by dropping the
topdrive torque limit to equal drilling torque. The problem was eliminated
completely in the following run by adding lube to the mud. It was unrelated to
anything happening down hole.
3 or 4 episodes of brief pressure increases of about 100 to 300 psi were
observed. They all cleared up after a few minutes without any effort. Junk was
later found in the bit (black foam rubber like a floor mat and white/black plastic
like a guitar pick).
The bit was graded 1-1-WT-A-X-I-NO-BHA.
Depth Tracking Run 2

COMMENTS RUN 3
The BHA was composed of a 8 ¾” Hycalog PDC SKH519M-B1C bit, 6 ¾” RSS Xceed,
PeriScope 675 LWD, TeleScope MWD, 8 1/2” NM stabilizer, 3 Flex NMDC, saver sub, 9
joints 5” HWDP, hydraulic drilling jars, and 8 joints 5” HWDP.
The BHA performed perfectly directionally. MO was approximately 2 DLS at 40% when
oriented HS and 3.3 at 40% when oriented at 48 right. Xceed would probably produce 10
to 12 DLS at 100% steer force if oriented lowside, 8 to 10 if oriented left or right, and 6
to 8 if oriented highside.
There was 5% to 10% flow blockage on the top of the MWD tool caused by junk of
unknown nature. We will try to remove the junk in the pipeshed. It appears to be metal
shavings but it might be steel, aluminum or plastic. No junk was found in the bit.
The bit was graded 1-1-WT-A-X-I-NO-TD.

Made up bottom hole assembly and drilled from 110’ MD to 220’ MD from which the hole was
circulated clean then began to pull out of the hole to 110’ MD to service the top drive and pick
up remaining drilling bottom hole assembly and drilled to 333’ MD. The drawworks
malfunctioned and decision was made to pull out of the hole to 110’ MD, inside the conductor
casing and wait for parts to repair the drawworks.
Gas: The max gas was 8 units and average gas was 3 units.
Fluids: There were no losses down hole.
03/26/2015
Experienced downtime due to drawworks issues; perform rig maintenance and housekeeping.
Brake for circulation at 1900 hours. NOV and EDS technicians arrived and began repairs at
2100 hours.
Gas: There was no gas observed.
Fluids: There were no losses down hole.
03/27/2015
Continued to experience downtime due to drawworks issues with the rig crew assisting the NOV
technician with breaking down the hub, bearing and water jackets and cleaned water jackets
and housing, replace bearing, reassemble brake. Charged both mud pumps and circulated
through the drill string to prepare to run in the hole.
Gas: There was no gas observed.
Fluids: There were no losses down hole.
03/28/2015
Replaced drawworks encoder then proceeded to drill ahead from 333’ MD to 1979’ MD while
increasing the mud weight to 9.4 pounds per gallon by 2000’ MD.
Gas: The max gas was 582 units and average gas was 56 units.
Fluids: There were no losses down hole.
03/29/2015
Drilled ahead 1979’ MD to 2580’ MD at 620 gallons per minute with a 9.6 pounds per gallon
mud weight. Circulated bottoms up and proceeded to back ream out of the hole. Circulated
bottoms up on first 3 stands out of the hole then continued back ream out of the hole from 2280’
MD to flex collars at 282’ MD. Stood back flex collars and laid down bottom hole assembly. The
top drive and mud pumps were blown down and drained the motor.
Gas: The max gas was 518 units and average gas was 74 units.
Fluids: There were no losses down hole.
03/30/2015
Continued to lay down mud motor and all the crossovers down the beaver slide, then rigged up
to run casing. Casing equipment was rigged up and made dummy run with landing joint, laid
down landing joint and hanger. Started running in the hole with 9.625 inch casing from shoe
track to joint 18 and hit bridge at 725’ MD while washing and working through obstructions then
continued running casing to bottom.
Gas: The max gas was 128 units and average gas was 7 units.
Fluids: There were no losses down hole.
03/31/2015
Landed casing then began to circulated and condition mud to 9.6 pounds per gallon and 100
viscosity for cement job. Blew down the top drive and rigged up cement lines. Pressure tested
cement lines to 3000 pounds per square inch. Began to pump cement job but did not bump
plug however float equipment held and 30 barrels of cement returned to surface. Rigged down
casing running tool and blew down cement lines. Cleaned rig floor and equipment. Rigged
down diverter line and prepared to nipple up blow out preventer.
Gas: The max gas was 86 units of trip gas and average gas was 4 units.
Fluids: There were no losses down hole.
04/01/2015
Continued to rig up blow out preventer and proceeded to test. The top drive and drawworks
were serviced. Picked up 18 joints of 5” drill pipe rack back stands.
Gas: There was no gas observed.
Fluids: There were no losses down hole.
04/02/2015
The top drive was serviced while blocks, wash pipe, and top drive were greased. Continued to
pick up bottom hole assembly while the suction lines were cleaned out. Tripped in the hole and
tagged cement at 2400’ MD. Circulated and conditioned mud. Rigged up to test casing and
circulate one bottoms up the pressure tested casing at 3500 pounds per square inch for 30
minutes which tested good. Washed and reamed from 2400’ MD to 2580’ MD then proceeded
to displace old mud with 9.9 pounds per gallon mud while rotating and reciprocating then
continued to rotary drill from 2580’ MD to 2600’ MD.
Gas: The max gas was 58 units and average gas was 4 units.
Fluids: There were no losses down hole.
04/03/2015
Performed leak off test to 13.24 pounds per gallon. Circulated and conditioned mud then
proceeded to drill ahead from 2620’ MD to 3772’ MD.

Difficulties experienced:
As with surface section comes trying to keep a consistant flow through the gas trap in the possum
belly by scooping out cuttings from underneath and keeping it at a height that will allow for good data.
It was a challenge to keep that up but it was done to the best of our abilities.
Recommendations:
Stay in communication with the pit watcher with regards to the gas trap so we can make sure that it
says clear of cuttings.

Hilary Garney 30-Mar-2015
What went as, or better than, planned:
There were no major issues with gas gear or equipment. There was good communication between us
and the rig crew regarding pit volumes and gas readings. The power on the rig went out twice but the
UPS was operable and working so that we could still read data.
