All three well lines were inspected and all three have a pipe strength substantially above the strength required by the design pressure of the system Further actions are being taken to address the wellheads and fasteners. Those actions can or will include the following items as per well specific requirements: 1. Secure the well. 2. Abrasively clean the wellhead and associated piping to remove the current external corrosion. 3. Visual inspection by the Mechanical Engineer. If further evaluation needs to be done, it will be done at this time as well. 4. Paint the wellhead and valuing with a corrosion resistant type paint. 5. Replace any or all of the tree valves, casing head studs and nuts. This step will also repair insufficient bolt/nut engagement as well. 6. Evaluate on a case by case basis the replacement of any lockdown screws. Further mitigation ideas are being discussed in order to prevent this from reoccurring. I. Supervisor Chuck Scheve; DATE: SUBJECT: Petroleum Inspector January 28, 2001 Safety Valve Tests Kuparuk River Unit 2D & 2E Pads Sunday, January 28, 2001; I traveled to the Kuparuk River Field and witnessed the semi annual safety valve system testing on 2D & 2E Pads. As the attached AOGCC Safety Valve System Test Report indicates I witnessed the testing of 9 wells and 18 components with one failure on 2D Pad and 5 wells and 10 components with one failure on 2E Pad. The SUrface Safety Valve on Well 2E-16 had a slow leak when pressure tested. This valve will be serviced and retested by the operator. The Surface Safety Valve on well 2D-05, a WAG injector, could not be tested due to a leaking wing valve. This valve will be tested as soon as the wing valve is repaired. Earnie Barndt conducted the testing today he demonstrated good test procedure and was a pleasure to work with All the Wellhouses entered at these locations were clean and all related equipment appeared to be in good condition. Describe proposed program: ARCO Alaska, Inc., proposes to drill a Kuparuk River Field development well to approximately 6865'MD (6308'TVD). A 20", 2000 psi annular diverter will be installed on the 16" conductor while drilling the surface hole. The 10-3/4" casing will be set through the Ugnu Sands at approximately 2600'MD (2600'TVD). A 13-5/8", 5000 psi, RSRRA DOPE stack will be installed on the 10-]/4" surface pipe. It will be tested upon installation and weekly thereafter. Test pressure will be ]000 psig (1800 psi for annular). The West Sak interval will be cored with oil based mud. Expected maximum surface pressure is 2762 psi. Pressure calculations are based on latest reservoir pressure. Surface pressure is calculated with an unexpanded gas bubble at surface, including temperature effects. Selected intervals will be logged. The well will be completed, using the workover rig, with ]-1/2", 9.2#, J-55, 8rd tbg. Non-freezing fluids will be left in uncemented annuli through the permafrost interval. Selected intervals will be perforated within the Kuparuk formation and reported on subsequent reports. A downhole safety valve will be (see attached sheet) 23. It is 25' away from 2E-16 at the surface. There are no other close wellbores anywhere downhole. Top of cement for the production string will be placed at the 10-3/4" casing shoe in order to cover the West Sak Sands. Reserve pit fluids will be disposed of down the 10-3/4" x 7" annulus. The 10-3/4" x 7" annulus will be left with a non-freezing fluid during any interruptions in the disposal process.
