Dear Mr. Gardner: Our representative inspected this location on August 2, 1984 and found everything in acceptable condition except that the location 'was rutted. Our representative again inspected this location on January 15, 1985 and found the location had been graded and was now smooth. Consequently, final abandonment of No. 1 Sag River is approved. Please advise as to the disposition of your blanket bond. Sincerely, Lonnie C. Smith Commissioner 1.LCS/BEW:be cc: H. G. & G, Inc. Accompanying me was Mark Veit of Northwest Tech., Bob Gardiner's consulting firm. Since Ed Sipple had made the initial inspection on August 2, 1984, my aim was to determine'that final grade of the pad was smooth and flat, the one deficiency Ed Sipple found during his August, 1984 inspection. As indicated by the pictures, conditions were poor at the time of inspection. Ambient temperature was -!3°F, winds were riffling snow across the pad at 21 knots constant and daylight was poor. However, taking these conditions into consideration, ~as indicated on the attached surface abando~nent report and by the attached pictures, I recom- mend final approval of this abandonment. Monday, January 21, 1985: BOPE tests on Sohio's Niakuk #4 were ~ompieted', the sUbj~-~' of a separate report. I departed Deadhorse via Alaska Airlines, Flt. #54 at 10:00 am, arriving in Anchorage at 11:40 am and at my home at 12:10 pm. In summary, I inspected final grade of H.G. & G. Kick probably originated from overpressured fine sand lens within Kingak shale. Finally controlled well on third circulation. Operator elected to log hole. Mud wt.: = 10.2 ppg, Vis. = 34, YP = 3. Mud Type: Low Solids, lightly dispersed. Surveys: 1 1/4° @ 8874'. Jan. 28, 1984 Conditioned hole for logs. Ran Schlumberger DIL/SP/BHC/GR tool and recorded from 8906' to 2737'. Required two circulations to stabilize gas at less than 100 units. Pulled out of hole and rigged up to run casing. Ran 225 jts. of 479, N-80 and KO-95 BTC casing equipped with Baker float shoe and float collar. Casing tagged fill at 8926 ft. Rigged up to circulate and washed casing to 8940 ft. Cemented casing with 404 sx Class "G" cement. Cement job went well, with no problems. Nippled down BOP's and hung off casing. Installed 13 5/8" 5000 psi X 11" X 5000 psi tubing head. Opened 13 3/8" X 9 5/8" annulus valve and had communication. Picked up RTTS and found casing parted at first collar beneath wellhead. Cause of separation unknown, as casing string was intact when casing was hung off several hours earlier. Feb. 1, 1984 Nippled down BOP's and wellhead to expose 9 5/8" casing stub. Made casing cut below separated collar, and recovered cutoff section. Dressed stub and made up casing patch on new joint of 9 5/8" casing. Engaged casing patch and tested to 2000 psi-OK. Saturday, Februar3 4, 1984: I spoke with Mike Minder, this date ~6-d-he- ~ques~ed 'that i go to the above listed well and witness the P&A of same, Sunday, February 5, 1984: After logging was completed a Halliburton E-Z Drfll Cement retainer was run in the 9 5/8" casing by the wire line unit to 8930' - 10' above the shoe at 8940' and set. The drill pipe with a sting-in tool was then run in the hole. The tool was stung in and 20,000 lbs./D.P, weight was set on the retainer to insure a good set. At this time the pipe rams were closed and 600 psig pressure was applied to the annulus to be sure the seal was holding. The pressure was bled off. The sting-in tool was pulled out of the retainer and a 100 sk. slurry of 15 lb/gal, of class G cement was mixed and pumped. As the slurry reached the bottom of the D.P. the tool was stung-in and 10 bbls. slurry was squeezed out into the formation at 2 bbl/min, with 1800 psig pump pressure. The tool was then pulled out of the retainer and the rest of the cement was displaced. Four stands of D.P. were pulled out of the hole. After observing the amount of flow back that came out of the D.P. I requested Bob Gardner, HG&G representative to circulate the well bottoms up. Contaminated mud was circulated out of the well, so Bob and I discussed the problem. I told Bob I wasn't satisfied with the cement job and that we could wait for the cement to harden and tag it, or set another 50 sk. plug. BOb agreed and another 50 sk. plug was pumped. After observing the breaking off of the cement head and the first two stands of D.P. being pulled dry I was satisfied that the plug was in place. At this time a 55 sk.. plug of Cold Set I was pumped down the 13 3/8" x 9 5/8" annulus. This annulus had been left open for drilling fluid and waste water disposal. At 6:15 a~, February 6, 1984, the 9 5/8" casing had been cut at 47' below the braden head and pulled.
