The corrosion inhibitor is engineered to prevent water from entering the annular space and causing external corrosion that could result in a surface casing leak to atmosphere. The attached spreadsheet represents the well name, API and PTD numbers, top of cement depth prior to filling and volumes of corrosion inhibitor used in each conductor. As per previous agreement with the AOGCC, this letter and spreadsheet serve as notification that the treatments took place and meet the requirements of form 10 -404, Report of Sundry Operations. The objective of this job is to clear the perforations with a bullhead Xylene/HCL treatment displaced to the perforations with seawater. Attempted to bullhead HCL/Xylene to clean the perforations. Pumped 10 Bbls of filtered seawater followed by 10 Bbls of 7.5% HCL and the well locked up with 4000 psi on the tubing. Unable to establish a stable rate, the perfs seem completely plugged. Decided to leave the well SI overnight and let the gas/HCL swap. Will shoot a tubing fluid level in the morning to determine the next treatment option. FLUIDS PUMPED BBLS. The well is currently shut in for safety reasons. The well was testing at an average of 1200 bopd at a water cut of 60% prior to being shut in. Please find attached the information requested to progress the workover. With reference to your note of 12/17/93, outlining the workover alternatives, we would like to keep open the option of running a 7-5/8" tieback to surface as opposed to running the Baker patch across the hole after the results of the USIT log over the entire length of the 9-5/8" casing are known. Please contact Bill Turnbuli at Anchorage extension 4662 with any questions or comments. LS/WFT ~;¢_~ cc with attachments: Bill Turnbull W. Anchorage REASON FOR WORKOVER M-18b has a confirmed leak between the inner and outer annulus in the 9-5/8" casing estimated to be at 1470'. WELL HISTORY M-18b was completed in May 93 following the abandonment of the unsuccessful first attempt at sidetracking M-18. The well was fracced on 27 August 1993 and immediately prior to being shut in following detection of the annulus leak the well was producing 1200 bopd at 60% water cut. The well is a gas lifted well. Attached is test history for the well. CURRENT STATUS The well has been shut in, killed with sea water and freeze protected. Afler sating operation whp was reading vacuum. Attached are telexes from NS PE describing work performed to confirm the leak (11/27/93; 2/16/94). The sonolog showed a deflection on the inner annulus at around 1600', which is indicative of possible casing collapse. Should the casing have collapsed, it cannot have been catastrophic since subsequent drift runs show that the 4-1/2" tubing is unaffected. BHP/BHT The most recent survey, performed on 30 May 1993, recorded bottom hole temperatures and pressures of 217 deg f and 3560 psi (at 8800 fl tvd ss). PERFORATION DETAILS The well is perforated across the interval 9108-9154' md. It is not the intention to reperforate following the workover, but simply to flow the well following the clean out of the isolation sand. PERFORATION PROTECTION PLAN We recommend that the well is sanded back to 30' above the top perf, 9078' md, and a solid particle kill pill is spotted on top of the carbolite. This method has been shown to cause zero deterioration in well performance following workovers. Because the well has been fractured, and has a relatively good PI, it is not expected that adequate well isolation would be achieved simply by topping up the well with sea water. MINIMUM/OPTIMUM PBTD To minimize formation damage, cleanout of the carbolite should be done using coiled tubing following the workover, once the rig has left the site. The original PBTD on this well was 9621' md. The last recorded TD tag was 9145' md wlm on 11/26/93. Since the well has been fracced and will produce the carbolite with time we would like to clean out as much of the isolation sand as possible following the workover, to say 9600' md. At a minimum we would need at least 100' clear below the lower perf, 9254' md. R ECEIVEr M-18b WORKOVER REQUEST Page 1 COMPLETION DESIGN All of the workover options involve rerunning the existing 4-1/2" tubing, and the existing gas lift mandrel spacing and packer setting depths should be adhered to. The permit to redrill does not exempt you from obtaining additional permits required by law from other governmental agencies, and does not authorize conducting drilling operations until all other required permitting determinations are made. Blowout prevention equipment (BOPE) must be tested in accordance with 20 AAC 25 035. Sufficient notice (approximately 24 hours) must be given to allow a representative of the Commission to witness a test of BOPE installed prior to drilling a new hole. Notice may be given by contacting the Commission petroleum field inspector on the North Slope pager at 659-3607. David W. This will not access additional reserves, therefore the sidetrack will be expensed. M18 currently produces 7000 bwpd and 700 bopd. The high water production is due to a propped fracture which extends into the base of Zone 4. The sidetracked is expected to have an initial rate of 3000 bopd at 0% watercut. An initial sidetrack attempt , M-18A encountered faulting at the top of the Sadlerochit formation. The faulting resulted in a loss circulation condition which could not be remedied economically and caused undue risk as the well continued to be drilled. An operational shutdown was requested and granted from the AOGCC. An alternate target M-18B was selected after review of additional 3-D seismic data set. CURRENT STATUS' - .. Well M18 was drilled in 1982 as a Sohio tract well and was not unitized until 16th March 1988. Initial perforations were added on 27th April 1988 and resulted in an initial flow rate of 9800 bopd with 0% watercut. The gross fluid rate stabilized at approximately 4500 bpd with a 15% watercut. On 18th November 1988 a bullhead mud acid treatment stimulation was performed. This resulted in a short term gain in gross fluid rate ( 5500 bpd) and a watercut of 25%. Over the next 2 years no significant well work was performed. By October 1990 the gross fluid rate had declined to 3600 bpd at a watercut of 52%. A full suite production Icg run in February 1990 indicates a small channel below the bottom pedorations and high water production from the bottom 75 feet of perforations. A coil tubing unit (CTU) cement squeeze was performed in November 1990. The objective was to shut off the water production and reperforate the top 50 feet of Zone 4 in preparation for a fracture treatment.. After reperforation the well returned to production at a gross fluid rate of 2000 bpd at a 19% watercut. The well was fractured on 15th November 1990 and was the first fracture treatment performed on M-Pad. The design assumed vertical containment of the fracture above a small shale at 9126' md. The post fracture flow rate was approximately 9500 bpd at a 55% watercut. The watercut was very similar to the pre-squeeze watercut, which indicates that the fracture treatment stimulated all of Zone 4. A flowmeter survey performed in March 1991 indicates that the squeeze perforations are holding and that the fracture extends down to the base of Zone 4. ,Current Status cont'd: At present M-18A is temporarily abandoned. A total of 80 bbls of class G cement was displaced below a bridge plug positioned at 9156' md in 7" 29# csg. A 10 bbl cement pill was spotted on top of the bridge plug and was subsequently tagged at 8863' md. In addition, a 9-5/8" bridge plug was positioned at 7840' md approximately 20' above 7"x 9-5/8" liner top - 10 bbls of class G cement was spotted on top of the 9-5/8" bridge plug with an estimated cement top of 7704' md.
