Supervisor FROM: jeff Jones' SUBJECT: : Petroleum Inspector DATE: December 9, 2000 Safety Valve Tests Prudhoe Bay Field BPX / X-Pad Saturday, December 9, 2000: I traveled to BPX's X Pad in the Prudhoe Bay Field to witness Safety Valve System tests. Merv Liddelow, Bpx representative in charge of the testing, performed the tests in a safe and proficient manner. Of the 26 wells tested, 3 failures were witnessed. Well X, 14A's SSV failed to close and well X-19B's pilot was frozen and the SSV failed to close. Mr. Liddelow indicated to me on 12/10/00 that these items have been corrected and successfully re-tested. The AOGCC test reports are attached for reference. I conducted 26 well hOuse inspections concurrent with the SVS tests. A slight crude oil leak was noted on a wellhead flange of well X-19B. Mr. Liddelow indicated he would have this item addressed. No other exceptions were noted. SUMMARY: ! witnessed SVS tests and conducted well house inspections on BPX'S X Pad. 26 wells, 53 components tested, 3 failures. 26 well houses inspected. The rig was just testing the upper pipe rams when I arrived. The choke manifold was tested with all valves passing their pressure test. All other components of the BOPE were tested and all passed with the exception of the Floor valve which leaked on its Iow pressure test, and the Annular preventor which although holding its test pressure developed what appeared to be a hydraulic leak to the bore of the BOP's. This leak was very slight and might have gone unnoticed if not for visual observations of the bore of the BOP. A ieakoff test of the accumulator confirmed that there was a leak in the hydraulic system. I required that before drilling out the surface shoe, these two failures be repaired and retested, this was accomplished by eight P.M. and I approved the rig for further operations. The area surrounding the rig appeared neat and orderly with good access provided. Summary: I witnessed the initial BOP test on Nabors rig # 22-E drilling BPX's well # X-35. NU diverter and function test same. Drill 13-1/2" hole to TT4/SV3 marker below the base of Permafrost. Run and cement 10-3/4", 45.5#, NT80HLE, Buttress casing to surface. Install blowout prevention equipment consisting of 5000 psi W.P. pipe rams, blind rams, and annular preventer. Maximum possible bottomhole pressure is 4390 psi at 8800' TVDss based on original reservoir pressure. Maximum possible surface pressure is 3330 psi based on a gas column to surface from 8600' TVDss and an oil column to 8800' TVDss. A foI~nation leak-off test will be performed 10' below the 10-3/4" shoe. Directionally drill 9-7/8" hole to the 7-5/8" casing point above the top of Sag River. Run a 7- 5/8", 29.7 #, NSCC casing string to within 10' of 9-7/8" TD and cement with Class G cement around the 7-5/8" shoe. The annulus will be freeze protected with dead crude oil. Directionally drill the 6-3/4" hole to TD. Run 5-1/2" liner from TD to 150' inside 7-5/8" casing shoe and cement using Class G cement. Clean out to 5-1/2" float equipment. Change over to NaC1 completion fluid. Test casing and lap to 3500 psi. Run 7-5/8" production packer on the 4-1/2" tubing. Set packer 50' above top of liner. A subsurface safety valve with dual control lines will be placed 10ft below base of permafrost. Install and test Xmas tree. Freeze protect the tubing and annulus with Diesel from surface to 2100' TVDBKB. Set and test packer. The well will be perforated after the rig has been released.
