To' Well File: Prudhoe Bay Unit Permit # 195-147 July 9, 2002
Re: Administrative Abandonment Action
Prudhoe Bay Unit Y-14A, Permit # 195-147
This memo will remain at the front of the subject well file.
Well PBU Y-14A was replaced by PBU Y-14B (permit # 201-101, AP1 # 50-029-21832-02) when the
permit was approved 05/23/2001. The replacement well incorporates an extension to a new bottom hole
location using the existing well bore. This extension, along with the original hole, will be used for
production of hydrocarbons. A review of both well files indicates administrative abandonment of the
originating well bore is appropriate according to current AOGCC procedures for wells where additional
permitted extension is drilled from an existing well bore.
20 AAC 25.005(a) requires a Permit to Drill for each hole drilled below the conductor unless drilled to
straighten the original hole, sidetrack junk, or correct mechanical difficulties. In addition, AOGCC
databases require each conductor has only one permit number and API number. Administrative
abandonment of the original permit only eliminates duplication in the databases. Information for the
original well and its replacement will be maintained in their respective files.
The operator has been notified of this action. All future correspondence with the AOGCC should reflect
the new permit number, API number and well data.

abandonment of the original permit only eliminates duplication in the databases. Information for the
original well and its replacement will be maintained in their respective files.
Please notify other cognizant personnel in your organization so that the well will be correctly identified
on subsequent reports and applications submitted to the Commission.

Dear Mr. Jordan:
Enclosed is the approved application for permit to drill the above referenced well.
The permit to drill does not exempt.you from obtaining additional permits required by law from other
governmental agencies, and does not authorize conducting drilling operations until all other required
permitting determinations are made.
Blowout prevention equipment (BOPE) must be tested in accordance with 20 AAC 25.035. Sufficient
notice (approximately 24 hours) of the BOPE test performed before ddlling below the surface casing
shoe must be given so that a representative of the Commission may witness the test. Notice may be

Hazards and Contingencies
Mud weights should be kept to a minimum while drilling through the horizontal
section (+_9.0 ppg) to prevent differential sticking. With 9.0 ppg the hydrostatic
is +_4195 psi which is well over the formation pressure of +_3675 psi.

SUMMARY PROCEDURE
1. Pre-Rig Work: RU slickline. RIH and ensure the sliding sleeve at 9657' is closed. RU
cementers and tie directly into tree down the production tubing, mix and pump 25 bbls of Class
"G" and displace with 85 bbls of seawater (top of cement @ _+9800'), POOH, RU wireline, RIH
with jet cutter and tag top of cement with AOGCC representative present (top of cement must be
above 9952'), then jet cut 4 1/2" production tubing at _+9665', POOH, freeze protect, install
BPV, RDMO.
2. Move in drilling rig.
3. Pull BPV. Circulate diesel freeze protection cap from well and recover for future use.
4. Install a TWO valve. Remove the production tree.
5. Install BOP's and test to 5000 psi. Remove the TWC valve.
6. Pull and lay down the 4 1/2", 12.6#, L-80, BUTT tubing, RU wireline,
7. PU 9 5/8" section mill, RIH to 9600', spot heavy mud to 9500', pull section mill to 9450'.
8. Displace well to FLO-PRO/milling fluid. Cut a 50' section in the 9 5/8" casing starting
from about 9450'-9500' MD. POOH
RIH with open ended drill pipe to 9600' and lay a cement plug back to 9250', POOH.
Run in with a 6 3/4" steerable drilling assembly and a 8 1/2" bit with gamma
ray/directional MWD. Contact AOGCC to witness tag of cement for abandonment purposes.
Dress the cement to 5' below the section top. Kickoff and if necessary displace well to clean
FLO-PRO system. Continue to directionally drill to the 7" casing point at _+10455' at 88.7°
(see attached directional plan).
Make a conditioning trip with an 8 1/2" hole-opener for the open hole section Install a 7",
29#, L-80, BUTT Solid liner with 7" X 9-5/8" packer/hanger. Packer / hanger to be set
at _+9300' MD.
Cement the liner in place with the total cement volume based upon 50 % open-hole
enlargement plus the 80' shoe volume, 9-5/8 X 7" lap volume, and 150' excess on top of
the liner with drillpipe in the hole.
Re-test BOP's as needed.
PU 3 1/2" drill pipe and 4 3/4" steerable drilling assembly with gama ray and directional
MWD. RIH and cleanout liner to landing collar, test casing to 3500 psi.
Drill out shoe and continue to drill horizontally to 11205' MDTD.
Install a 4 1/2",12.6#,L-80,BUTT slotted liner with 4 1/2" X 7" hanger/packer. The
liner hanger is to be at _+10305'.
There exists a possibilty that the liner will be run with two ECP,s as dictated by geology.
Run the 4-1/2" L-80 completion string assembly using as much 4-1/2" used tubing and
jewelry as possible. Space out and circulate with corrosion inhibitor.
Install a BPV and test plug. Remove BOP's.
Install and test the production tree to 5000 psi. Pull tree test plug and BPV.
Set packer.
Test the tubing x casing annulus to 3500 psi for 30 minutes.
Shear RP valve in the upper GLM and freeze protect the well.
Set a BPV. Release rig.
Complete appropriate documentation and hand-over to Production.

APPENDIX
Information of detailed nature that is not
particularly germane to the Well Permitting Process
but is part of the history file.
To improve the readability of the Well History file and to
simplify finding information, information of this
nature is accumulated at the end of the file under APPENDIX.
No special effort has been made to chronologically
organize this category of information.

REMARKS: MWD - EWR4/GR.
ALL DEPTHS ARE MEASURED BIT DEPTHS.
THIS WELL, Y-14A, IS REPRESENTED BY RUNS 1 - 4.
MWD RUNS 1 & 2 WERE DIRECTIONAL WITH GAMMA R_AY (SGRC).
MWD RUNS 3 & 4 WERE DIRECTIONAL WITH GAMMA RAY (SGRC) &
ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE 4-PHASE RESISTIVITY (EWR4).
ALL GAMMA RAY DATA WAS ACQUIRED WITH DUAL GAMMA RAY,
GEIGER MUELLER TUBE DETECTORS (DGR/SGRC).
A POSITIVE SHIFT OF 1.2 AAPI WAS NOTICED IN THE GAMMA
RAY READINGS AFTER CHANGING OUT THE MUD SYSTEM TO
FLO-PRO TYPE MUD AT 10471'.
THIS WELL WAS DRILLED TO TD AT 11300'.
NO DEPTH SHIFTS WERE DONE AS THIS LOG IS THE DEPTH
REFERENCE FOR THIS WELL.
