Subject: Corrosion Inhibitor Treatments of GPB DS -02
Dear Mr. Maunder,
Enclosed please find multiple copies of a spreadsheet with a list of wells from GPB DS-
02 that were treated with corrosion inhibitor in the surface casing by conductor annulus.
The corrosion inhibitor is engineered to prevent water from entering the annular space
and causing external corrosion that could result in a surface casing leak to atmosphere.
The attached spreadsheet represents the well name, API and PTD numbers, top of
cement depth prior to filling and volumes of corrosion inhibitor used in each conductor.
As per previous agreement with the AOGCC, this letter and spreadsheet serve as
notification that the treatments took place and meet the requirements of form 10 -404,
Report of Sundry Operations.
If you require any additional information, please contact me or my alternate, Gerald
Murphy, at 659 -5102.
Sincerely,
Mehreen Vazir

THE CHANGES TO WELLBORE NAMES AND NUMBERS
FOR WELL PRUDHOE BAY UNTI' 2-39
~ ~~~~/~
This note to file is an attempt to sort out the convoluted operations history and permit to
drill (PTD) and API numbering associated with the Prudhoe Bay Unit (PBU) 2-39
development well and its subordinate wellbores. The goal is to make needed changes and
to adequately document those changes to provide a clear record. ~~ "
Three permits to drill have been approved by the Commission for these wellbores:
PBU 2-39 (PTD 1961820, API 50.029-22721-00) ~ ~ Zola
PBU 2-39L1 (PTD 1971100, API 50-029-22721-60) w ~i ~A~
PBU 2-39A (PTD 2080500, API 50.029-22721-01)
A brief operations summary for each wellbore will help explain the reasoning for the
changes being applied to the Commission's well and production records.
PBU 2-39 (PTD 1961820. API 50-029-22721-001
The original wellbore, PBU 2-39 (PTD 1961820, API 50-029-22721-00), spud on
December 8, 1996 and reached a total depth of 12,450' measured depth on December 29,
1996. The well was perforated across seven intervals extending from 10,630' to 12,300'
measured depth (MD), placed on regular production from January 1997 through April
1997. During May 1997, the well shut in because of low production volumes (for April,
the well averaged 54.7 BOPD over 28 producing days).
PBU 2-39L1 (PTD 1971100, API 50.029-22721-60)
On June I3, 1997, the Commission approved a permit to drill for the PBU 2-39L1 lateral
wellbore (PTD 1971100, API 50-029-22721-60). The operator's intent was to drill a
horizontal, lateral wellbore about 1,800 measured feet in length using a "Multi Lateral
Access Sub" in the existing 4-1/2 inch horizomal liner and then run a 2-7/8 inch slotted
liner. On July 2, 1997, a window was milled through the 4-1/2 inch liner from 10,714' to
10,719' MD and the new lateral wellbore was drilled to 11,973' MD on July 8, 1997.
According to the operations summary, the reservoir rocks encountered were shaley, so on
July 8, 1997 anopen-hole sidetrack was attempted from 11,320' to 11,332' MD, but the
effort was not successful.
On July 9, 1997, a second open-hole sidetrack was drilled from 11,335' to 11,350' MD,
but when the operator tripped the bottom-hole assembly to the window, the assembly
became stuck. All fishing attempts were unsuccessful, so on July 11, 1997 the operator
pumped 15 barrels of Class G cement to plug back the lateral as well as the original
wellbore. Hard cement was tagged at 10,362' MD on July 12, 1997, so the original and
lateral wellbores were effectively plugged and abandoned as of, when a new window was
milled through the 7-inch casing.
• •
After plugging and abandonment of the original wellbore and the attempted lateral, all
subsequent re-drill operations should have been conducted under a new permit to drill
and a new well name (PBU 2-39A) and a new API number (50-029-22721-01), but this
did not occur, and the operations continued under PTD 1971100.
On July 12, 1997, a pilot hole was milled through the cement plug to 10,410' MD, and on
July 13, 1997, a window was milled through the existing 7-inch casing from 10,411' to
10,415' 1VID, and a new wellbore was drilled to 10,600' NID. Unfortunately, directional
survey data indicated this wellbore had merely progressed alongside the existing casing,
so it was plugged back with cement to 10,362' MD. On July 15, 1997, another window
was milled through the casing at 10,336' NID, and a horizontal wellbore was drilled.
This wellbore reached a total depth 12,309' MD on July 24, 1997. A 2-7/8 inch line was
run to 11,840' MD, where it stopped. Seventeen barrels of Class G cement were used to
set the liner from 9,277' to 11,840' NID, and it was perforated across five intervals
between 10,679' and 11,780' MD on July 26, 1997. The well was put on regular
production in August 1997, which continued until December 2007 when the well was
shut in, apparently due to its low rate of production.
All regular production between August 1997 and December 2007 was recorded against
PBU 2-39L1 (API 50-029-22721-60).
PBU 2-39A (PTD 2080500, API 50.029-22721-O1)
On April 17, 2008, the Commission approved a permit to drill for a re-drill of PBU 2-39.
This re-drill was named PBU 2-39A, and its assigned API number was 50-029-22721-01.
At present, this re-drill is not on the operator's drilling schedule, so the permit will expire
in Apri12010.
Well Name. PTD Number and API Number Chances
In January 2010, the operator, BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc., contacted the Commission
about correcting inconsistencies with the names and API numbers of the various existing
and proposed PBU 2-39 wellbores, and to properly assign production. The
Commission's protocol is to assign the combined production from a well and its laterals
to the main wellbore. Production is only assigned to a lateral if that lateral produces
through a separate tubing string. Production has been erroneously assigned to PBU 2-
39L1 in violation of this protocol, so correction is needed.
The following changes to wellbore names and API numbers will be made to clarify the
operator's and the Commission's well history and production databases.
1. The original well drilled between December 8 and December 29, 1996 will
continue to be named PBU 2-39 (PTD 1961820, API 50-029-22721-00). All
regular production occurring prior to July 13, 1997 will be assigned to this well
and API number.
2. The wellbore drilled from 10,714' to 11,973' MD between July 2 and July 8,
1997 will be re-named PBU 2-39L1, with a PTD number of 1971101 and an API
number of 50-029-22721-60.
3. The failed open-hole sidetrack wellbore drilled from 11,320' to 11,332' MD on
July 8, 1997 will be renamed PBU 2-39L1PB1 and any well log, directional
survey, sample or analytical records for this drilled interval will be assigned to
PTD 1971101 with an API number of 50-029-22721-70.
4. The open-hole sidetrack wellbore drilled from 11,335' to 11,350' MD on July 9,
1997 will be renamed PBU 2-39L1PB2 and any well log, directional survey,
sample or analytical records for this drilled interval will be assigned to PTD
1971101 with an API number of 50-029-22721-71.
5. The original well PBU 2-39 and subsequent wellbores PBU 2-39 L 1, PBU 2-
39L1PB1, and PBU 2-39L1PB2 were all plugged by the cementing operations
conducted on July 11, 1997. The abandonment date for these wellbores is July
13, 1997, when a new window was milled through the 7-inch casing at 10,411'
NID.
6. The unsuccessful re-drill wellbore that was drilled from 10,411' to 10,600' MD
and subsequently cemented on July 13 and July 14, 1997 will be named PBU 2-
39APB 1 and any well log, directional survey, sample or analytical records for this
drilled interval will be assigned to PTD 1971101 with an API number of 50-029-
22721-72.
7. The successful re-drill from 10,336' 1VID to 12,309' MD conducted between July
15 and July 24, 1997 will be named PBU 2-39A and all records for this wellbore
will be assigned to PTD 1971100 and the API number 50-029-22721-01.
8. All regular production occurring on or after July 13, 1997 will be assigned to PTD
1971100 and the API number 50-029-22721-01.
9. All printed records for the wellbores assigned to PTD numbers 1971100 and
1971101 will be maintained in the Commission's well history file folder number
1971100.
10. The wellbore name for Permit to Dri112080500, which was approved by the
Commission on April 17, 2008, will be revised to be PBU 2-39B, and the API
number will be changed to 50.029-22721-02.

Re: DS 02-39L1 Sundry Approval
Sundry approval is requested to abandon perforations on well 02-39L1. Well 02-39L1 is currently shut in
for marginal GOR due to moderate gas production with low oil rate.
History -Well 02-39 was drilled from surface in Dec 1996 with the future intent of drilling a coil multi-lat out of
the 4-1/2" liner. The original 02-39 was ultimately drilled too low resulting in poor rates; therefore, drilling
commenced on the planned lateral in July 1997. Drilling problems resulted in the BHA being stuck in the window
and the parent wellbore was abandoned. The sidetrack was drilled to 12309' TD but the liner was stuck high and
cemented in place at 11840'.
The new sidetrack reached 30 MMSCFD within two months. In February 1998, the well failed a TIFL. DGLVs
were installed in stations #1 and #2 but the well failed a subsequent TIFL. A June 1998 LDL found a leak at the
3-1/2" liner top and a RCP liner top packer was installed. The well passed an MIT-IA to 2500 psi even with the
OGLV in station #3, which is behind the 2-7/8" liner. The liner top packer restored integrity but did not lower the
gas rate. A Borax MCNL run in Sept 1999 showed no channels to gas, but did show a small channel from the
first pert interval to 10600'. The GOC was at 10,460'MD (8736'SS) prompting the CIBP set at 11,440' to shut
off the toe interval in Nov 1999. The CIBP did not alter the production rates.
A production log was run in May 2001. The results indicated a competent CIBP and liner top. The log also
showed gas entries from the lower two pert intervals. In May 2003, a CIBP was set at 10790' for gas shut off but
did not improve production rates. An SCMT log was run in Nov 2006 and identified the 2-7/8" liner TOC at 10300'
just above the current CTD window.
A caliper run Dec 2007 indicated the tubing was in good to fair condition. In Jan 2008 aMIT-IA passed to 3000
psi, but aMIT-OA failed with a leak rate of 5 bpm at 1750 psi.
Well 02-39L1 has essentially been producing at marginal GOR since it was drilled in 1997 and has limited
recharge at low oil rate (3-500bopd) and high gas rate (40MMCFD). Minimal recharge was seen after four
months of shut in time during 2007. The well returned to production at 70000 gor. With a predicted on-time of
10%, the well provides minimal remaining value to the field. Anew sidetrack is expected to provide a fresh Z1A
offtake point to access reserves still at risk in Zone 1.
REASON FOR SUNDRY:
In order to achieve adequate isolation for the 2-7/8" liner cement job on the 02-39A sidetrack, it will be necessary
to abandon all the perforations in the existing parent well bore.
Pre-CT Rig Work:
1. Dummy off all GLM's.
2. Drift 4-1/2" liner with slickline to confirm it is possible to recover HES RCP liner top packer.
3. Attempt to fish HES RCP liner top packer with slickline..
4. If step 3 unsuccessful, rig up coil and fish HES RCP liner top packer.
5. After LTP OOH, drift 2-7/8" liner for Schlumberger jet cutter.
6. Jet cut 2-7/8" liner @ 10,280', ref Mem Borax Thermal Neutron log of 27-September-1999.
7. Pickup on cut section of liner and confirm free.
8. AC-PPPOT-IC, T
9. If rig arrives after 7-1-2008, re MIT-IA. (Last MIT was 1-1-2008.)
10. Install a BPV
11. Bleed gas lift and production flowlines down to zero and blind flange.
12. Remove wellhouse, level pad.
~iig Sidetrack Operations: (SchecTuled to begin on June 1, 2008 using Nordic rig 1)
1. MIRU Nordic Rig 1
2. NU 7-1/16" CT Drilling BOPE and test.

Terrie and Greg,
What a nightmare!!! I think there have been some repeats in other wells since 1997.
If this were to happen now, the segment that was ultimately successfully(?) drilled
would have been 2-39A. Anyway, I talked to Steve and it is best to "let sleeping dogs lie".
The sundry you have submitted with be the P8~A for what is known as 2-39L1. Regarding
2-39, I will see if we can administratively abandon it.
The new "wellbore" will be 2-39A with an -01 API number.
Call or message with any questions.

Hi Tom,
Attached is the P&A 10-407 that I was able to find. This was a unique problem well... for sure.
I don't believe anything else is required...

Greg and Terrie,
I am looking at a sundry to plug 02-39L1.
Did you also file a sundry to plug 02-39?
Sundries for both are needed. Procedure is likely the same.
Thanks. Call or message with questions.
