The plan was kick-off in the Kingak and drill the Ivishak target. While drilling through the shale, it was problematic keeping the system clean due to shale instability. The decision was made to discontinue drilling through the Kingak. Currently, the well is loaded with crude oil and 10.5# mud with polymer and black products. On 9/6/2019 an injectivity test was attempted down the tubing in an effort to pursue a fullbore cement plug but there was no injectivity and the tubing locked up @ -3500 psi due to shale collapse. The proposal is to suspend the well so that a potential Rotary Rig Sidetrack can be pursued in the future. Objective Place an abandonment cement plug in the well above the existing openhole to fully secure the well. Due to the Kingak shale collapse it is not desireable to try and re-enter/re-open the "openhole" which has collapsed and has no injectivity. Procedural steps Coiled Tubing 1. " Lastufka, Joseph N Subject: FW: E -35C Operations Summary Joe, E -35C Operations Summary: Nabors CDR2 rigged up on well E -35C on 5/6/19 and the BOPE tested. A dual string window, 4-1/2" x 7-5/8", was milled from 8551'- 8561' MD. The well kicked off in the Kingak TJC and the 4.25" open hole was drilled down to a depth of 8742' MD (8637.6 TVDss). This total depth is in the Kingak TJA, approximately 43' MD from the projected TSGR. During drilling, Kingak cuttings/cavings began to increase and after a long wiper trip the rig was unable to work back to bottom. Multiple cleanout runs were attempted over the next 1-2 days. It was determined that the wellbore had likely crossed a " fault rubble zone and the Kingak shales were collapsing/caving into the hole. The decision was made to rig down rather than attempt a second sidetrack. The well was freeze protected and the rig released off the well at 23:59 on 5/13/19. A Well Operation Shutdown has been granted until the future utility of the wellbore and plan forward is determined. The wellbore is currently loaded with 9.5 ppg drilling fluid in the open hole (8742' MD — 8551' MD), 10.5 ppg fluid from the window up (8551' MD to 2500' MD) and 6.8 ppg diesel FP from 2500' MD to surface. Proposed plan for E -35C: Drill a through tubing sidetrack on or around April 1", 2019. The coil sidetrack E -35C will be a 2 -string sidetrack targeting oil resource under the HOT in Zone 2. It is planned to be drilled with a "slimhole" 2" reel for both Kingak bighole section and the slimhole production hole. Currently the well has integrity with a good IA test to 2634 psi on 6-5-18. Pre -rig the IA will be cemented to provide for the dual string kickoff as well as provide the cement packer above the sidetrack location. A 4-1/2" whipstock will be set on a -line at 8575'. The rig will move in, test BOPE and kill the well. A 3.80" window + 10' of rathole will be milled. The well kicks off in the Kingak (good cement is expected outside , casing, with the primary 7-5/8" TOC = 5045' MD based on volumetrics and 40% washout). The 4.25" hole section (-250') will be drilled to the TSGR and a 3-1/4" L-80 drilling liner will be run across the Kingak and top set in the Sag. A liner hanger is planned to hold this liner, but no cement will be pumped (See Request for Variance attached). The sole purpose of this liner is to facilitate drilling without hole instability. The shoe will be milled, and the well will be drilled down below the HOT and landed in Zone 2 where the horizontal will be drilled before toeing up above the HOT at TD. The total lateral length in the production hole section is planned for 2500' MD. The proposed sidetrack will be completed with a 2-3/8" L- 80 solid liner, cemented in place and selectively perforated. Rig Work (scheduled to begin April 15L, 2019) 1. MIRU and test BOPE 250 psi low and 3,500 psi high (MASP 2456 psi). 2. Mill 3.80" Window + 10' of rathole 3. Drill intermediate section: 4.25" OH, —256' (8 deg DLS in lateral planned). 4. Run 3-1/4" protection string. Hang off NS liner hanger. 5. Mill Aluminum shoe. 6. Drill production section: 3.25" OH, 2486' (20 deg DLS build, 12 deg DLS lateral) 7. Run 2-3/8" L-80 solid liner to TD. 8. Pump primary cement job: 20.7bbls, 15.3 ppg Class G, TOC at TOL (8390 MD)*. 9. Perforate —500' on the rig, 30' planned post rig (1.56" Perfecta guns, 6 spf). 10. Freeze protect well to a min 2,200' TVDss. 11. Close in tree, RDMO. * Approved alternate plug placement per 20 AAC 25.112(i) Post -Rig Work: 1. V: Tree work as necessary 2. S: SBHPS, set LGLVs, set LTP if necessary. RU DPGL 3. F: assist SL in PT LTP if set 4. T: Portable test separator flowback if perf >500' on rig (3-5 days) 5. C: RPM. Max recorded on the pad: 130 ppm on E-102 (9/25/09). • There are 4 predicted fault crossings along this well plan. • Lost circulation risk on E -35C is considered Medium. Reservoir Pressure: • The reservoir pressure on E -35C is expected to be 3336 psi at 8800' TVDSS (7.29 ppg equivalent). • Maximum expected surface pressure with gas (0.10 psi/ft) to surface is 2456 psi. • A min EMW of 8.4 ppg for this well will provide 507 psi over -balance to the reservoir. Zach Browning CC: Well File CTD Engineer Joseph Lastufka 564-5220 E -35C Request for Variance: BP requests a Variance to AOGCC regulation 25 AAC 25.30(d)(5) where it states the following: "intermediate and production casing must be cemented with sufficient cement to fill the annular space from the casing shoe to a minimum of 500 feet above all significant hydrocarbon zones and abnormally geo-pressured strata or, if zonal coverage is not required under (a) of this section, from the casing shoe to a minimum of 500 feet above the casing shoe; if indications of improper cementing exist, such as lost returns, or if the formation integrity test shows an inadequate cement job, remedial action must be taken"; Variance is requested for the E -35C 3-1/4" liner for the following reasons: 1. The 3-1/4" liner is intended as a drilling liner to allow the lateral to be drilled past the troublesome Kingak shale, and is not considered by BP as an intermediate liner. The difference is that this liner is not intended to provide zonal isolation, nor is it needed for well control to provide an expanded kick tolerance window. 2. Zonal isolation of the Sag-Ivishak is provided by the primary cement job performed for the 7-5/8" production casing string. This cement job, performed on 03 -June -1995, was completed successfully with good returns reported throughout the job and a solid plug bump. 228 bbls, 485 sx, class G cement was pumped. Assuming 40% washout the calculated TOC is at 5045' MD in the 9-7/8" x 7-5/8" annulus. This gives 3530' MD of cement above KOP, and 741' MD is across the Kingak (721' TVD across the Kingak). 3. The 2-3/8" production liner will be brought 150' above the 3-1/4" drilling liner. This liner will be cemented to the TOL, and it can be expected that some of the cement will U-tube behind the 3-1/4" liner providing some isolation. The total annulus volume behind the 3-1/4" liner is only 1.9 bbls. This amount of excess volume is planned for the 2-3/8" liner job in addition to our normal 20% OH volume. 4. It is documented that the Kingak is highly unstable when underbalanced and it is expected to collapse around pipe in a short amount of time after reducing the bottom hole pressure to drill Ivishak. In many other wells in Prudhoe the Kingak has been relied on to provide isolation when it has collapsed and a cement job was impossible due to no circulation or injection capability. 5. The nature of the Kingak shale, its likelihood to collapse, its potential for permeability within the Kingak Interval, and the Kingak and Sag River pore pressure relationship in this area are discussed in detail below. Nature of the Kingak Shale The Kingak formation is a Jurassic aged Shale that exists over most of the Greater Prudhoe Bay Unit. The Kingak Interval varies in thickness from nearly 1400' in the western part of the field to 0' in the east, where it is completely truncated by the Lower Cretaceous Unconformity (LCU). The interval is subdivided into 8 sub -units designated the JA (oldest) to the JH (youngest). About 950' TVD of Kingak is preserved in the E-35 well. The LCU erodes into the Kingak JG subzone in the E- 35 area. From a geomechanical perspective, the Kingak is considered to be a time sensitive shale. Significant wellbore stability issues have been encountered while drilling, casing and cementing the interval. Significant collapse of the shaly portions of the Kingak into open annuli has been observed while drilling and collapse/expansion is expected to occur behind uncemented casings. Potential for permeability within the Kingak Interval Throughout the Prudhoe Bay Area, the Kingak JF and the JD subzones are tightly cemented argillaceous siltstones. Additionally, a 5-10' thick silty interval is also commonly associated with top of the JB sub -unit. The remaining Kingak subzones are finer grained, fissile to semi fissile shales. The Kingak siltstones exhibit significant amounts of pyrite and either glauconite or calcite cement. Slow ROP is commonly associated with the silty units. None of the silty intervals have exhibited evidence of flow potential while being drilled. Historic drilling fluid losses in the Kingak are tied to faulting. Several instances of gas cut mud have been encountered when drilling the Kingak Interval but there are no known instances of a fluid influx. Kingak and Sag River Pore Pressure Relationships The pore pressure for the Kingak shale in the E-35 area ranges between 9.6 ppg —10.5 ppg. Kingak pore pressures are indirectly estimated shale pressures derived from mud weights required to maintain wellbore stability. Isolated lenses of permeable rock within the Kingak would inherit the shale pressure that they are contained in. Based on near offset SBHP measurements, the Sag River and Ivishak most likely pore pressures in the E-35 area are expected to be 6.80 ppg and 7.25 ppg respectively. If a Kingak interval with sufficient permeability to flow were to be encountered, then the current expected cross flow path would be from the Kingak to the Sag River. Given the very large disparity between the volumes of the two systems, the cross flow would equilibrate to the lower active reservoir pressure very quickly. Thanks, Zach From: Davies, Stephen F (DOA) <steve.davies@alaska.gov> Sent: Tuesday, April 2, 2019 5:50 PM To: Browning, Zachary H <Zachary.Brown ing@bp.com> Cc: Schwartz, Guy L (DOA) <guy.schwa rtz@alaska.gov> Subject: PBU E-35 (PTD 219-049) - Questions Zach, I'm reviewing BP's second Permit to Drill application for PBU E-35. Since the initial application was denied, AOGCC's file for that application was closed. New Permit to Drill and API Numbers will be assigned to the second application. To that end, I am assuming that the BP Coiled Tubing Report, Anti -collision Summary Report, AOGCC Offset Well Report, and Casing/Tubing Attachment that accompanied the initial application remain unchanged. These reports and the attachment did not accompany BP's second application, but to save time I can photocopy them if they remain unchanged. Please confirm that there are no changes. Has anything changed on the three schematic drawings that accompanied the initial application changed? If not, I will photocopy them too.
