I. Supervisor FROM' Lou Grimaldi, ~f;~.c-q~ SUBJECT: Petroleum Inspector FILE NO: AFRJC4GF.DOC BOP Test, Nabors #7ES Arco DS16-12A Prudhoe Bay Field PTD #99-0019 Non-Confidential Tuesday, March 30, 1999; I witnessed the weekly BOP test on Nabors rig #7ES drilling Arco well #DS16-12A in the Prudhoe Bay field. The rig was ready to pick up the test plug when I arrived and after a couple failed attempts to seat the plug it was found that a secondary casing spool which had been installed had a smaller I.D. than the lower hanger and prevented the plug from passing. After conferring with Mike Jackson (Co. Rep.) and Charlie Henley (Toolpusher) we set a smaller test plug in the upper Hanger and test from that point up. I informed Mr. Jackson that a way would have to be found to test the Lower Portion that had been bypassed during the test. He informed me a Storm Packer would be brought out and set in the first joint of casing below the untested casing head. I agreed to this and concluded the test. The test went very well with all BOPE components functioning properly and holding their pressure test with no leakage observed. The crew seemed well versed in their procedure, which indicated to me familiarity with this procedure. I did notice that the check valve that holds the Annular pressure in case of Accumulator system failure was missing on the Accumulator set. This is not uncommon on new installations to find this omitted but being a necessary item I spoke with the Toolpusher about getting this installed and was assured this would be taken care of. A tour around the rig showed much attention to housekeeping and preventative maintenance is standard for this rig, all in all a good looking rig. I returned later this evening and watched the Storm Packer run and Lower Casing head with two valves tested successfully. SUMMARY: I witnessed the weekly BOP test on Nabors 7ES, Casing hanger problems extended test time. Test time 5 hours, No failures. Diverter, BOPE and drilling fluid system schematics on file with the AOGCC. · Maximum anticipated BHP: 3600 psi @ 8860' TVDss - Zone 4 · Maximum surface pressure: 2714 psi @ surface (based on BHP and a full column of gas from TD @ 0.10 psi/fi) · Planned completion fluid: 8.5 ppg Seawater/6.8 ppg Diesel Drilling Hazards/Contingencies: HYDROGEN SULFIDE - H2S · Drill Site 16 is designated as an H2S drill site. The highest level of H2S measured on Drill Site 16 has been 230 ppm from DS 16-24 in June of 96. Measurements taken on the drill-site were as high as 150 ppm on 6/20/98. Standard Operating Procedures for H2S precautions should be followed at all times. DRILLING CLOSE APPROACH: · None INTERMEDIATE SECTION: · The Kingak shale is truncated on Drill Site 16 and will not be drilled. · Tight hole conditions have been encountered in the K-5 and lower Seabee shales at 8200' to 8500' TVD. Mud weights as high as 11.0 ppg and the addition of shale stabilizers may be required. · The kick tolerance for the 8.5" open hole section would be 73 bbls assuming an influx at section TD of 9575'. This is a worst case scenario based on an 8.0 ppg pore pressure gradient, a fracture gradient of 11.0 ppg at the surface casing shoe, and 10.5 ppg mud in the hole. PRODUCTION SECTION: · Differential sticking will be a problem if loss circulation is occurring or if the drill string is left stationary for an extended period or time. · The kick tolerance for the 7" shoe would be an infinite influx (annular volume) assuming an influx at section TD of 13,704'. This is a worst case scenario based on a 8.0 ppg pore pressure, a minimum fracture gradient of 10.0 ppg at the 7" casing shoe, and 8.5 ppg mud in the hole. Disposal-. · No annular injection in this well. ~- L;u(tings Handling: Cuttings snoL~ld be hauled to the ball mill 16-12A Permit to Drill .... Fluid Handling: Haul all drilling and completion fluids and other Class II wastes to CC- 2A for injection. Haul all Class I wastes to Pad 3 for disposal. In addition, haul all cuttings from drilling operations to CC-2A for disposal, except any metal cuttings which will be sent to the North Slope Borough. SUMMARY SIDETRACK PROCEDURES Pre-Riq Work: 1.
