Water source well WB-07 was drilled as planned to the proposed target, however due to complications encountered during operations to gravel pack the production interval, the well could not be completed. Two separate attempts were made to gravel pack the desired SV2 Sand interval and both were unsuccessful after 'screening-out' early, with less than half the anticipated gravel volume behind the screens. To allow a detailed evaluation of the plan forward, operations on WB-07 were suspended on January 20th, 2000. An industry 'Peer Assist' was completed in February in attempt to identify the root cause of the problems experienced during the WB-07 gravel pack operations, and to develop a path forward to successfully complete the well. Based upon recommendations from the peer assist process, plans to re-enter and complete an alternative sand interval have been developed. The SV2 interval targeted during the original gravel pack operations will be abandoned, and a shallow Tertiary reservoir section completed with a cased-hole gravel- pack using the 'Frac-Pack' technology. The well will be completed with a 4-1/2" ESP completion as originally planned. Attached is a general procedure of the planned operations with schematics of the current wellbore condition and proposed well completion. Pre-rig operations are planned to begin around May 25th, with rig operations beginning around June 5th. If you have any questions or require additional information on this matter, please contact me at 564-5521. Sincerely, William S. The well was drilled as planned to the proposed target, however due to complications encountered during operations to gravel pack the production interval the well could not be completed. Two separate attempts were made to gravel pack the desired interval and both were unsuccessful after 'screening-out' early, with less than half the anticipated gravel volume behind the screens. To allow a detailed evaluation of the plan forward, operations on WB-07 are being suspended. Estimates for re-entering the well to commence further gravel pack and completion operations is within 6 months. Attached is a schematic of the planned well condition as suspended. If you have any questions or require any additional information on this matter, please contact me at 564-5521. Sincerely, William S. The highest level of H2S recently measured on West Beach Pad has been 30 ppm. WB-07 Permit to Drill P-, ]NFI ENTI L DRILLING CLOSE APPROACH: All wells pass close approach guidelines. SURFACE HOLE SECTION: · The surface hole interval on West Beach Pad has been relatively problem free with the exception of WB-06. · Large amounts of running pea gravel and coarse sand were seen while drilling the surface interval on WB-06. However, hole angle was in excess of 60 degrees. · Water encroachment was seen on WB-06 from the SV1 interval (-4600' TVD) which diluted mud properties. Mud properties should be monitored closely to eliminate running sand / gravel and hole cleaning problems. · Minor tight hole has been encountered in the clay sections below the permafrost. · Differential sticking could be problematic in this hole section adjacent to the permeable SV Sands. Avoid leaving drill string stationary for extended periods, tighten fluid loss properties of mud, and string in Barofibre prior to penetrating sand intervals. PRODUCTION SECTION: · Hydrocarbons are not expected in this interval. · Differential sticking will be a problem if loss circulation is occurring or if the drill string is left stationary for an extended period or time. · The surface casing will be set immediately above the SV2 target sand interval. Therefore, results of the FIT test 20' outside the shoe could be substantially lower than typical surface shoe LOT's. The FIT test is planned to 9.5 ppg, which is -0.5 ppg above the planned mud weight at TD of the interval (-250' outside the surface shoe and within the same sand unit). · Kick tolerance for the 9-5/8" shoe would be an infinite influx (annular volume) assuming an influx (assumes gas even though hydrocarbons not expected) at section TD of 4,355'. This is a worst case scenario based on an 8.7 ppg pore pressure, a minimum fracture gradient of 9.5 ppg at the 9-5/8" casing shoe, and 9.0 ppg mud in the hole. Disposal: · No annular injection in this well. · Cuttings Handling: Cuttings generated from drilling operations will be hauled to grind and inject at DS-04. Any metal cuttings will be sent to the North Slope Borough. Fluid Handling: Haul all drilling and completion fluids and other Class II wastes to DS- 04 for injection. Haul all Class I wastes to Pad 3 for disposal. WB-07 Permit to Drill DRILL AND COMPLETE PROCEDURE SUMMARY Pre-Rig Work: The 20" conductor has already been set for this well. 1. Weld an FMC landing ring for the FMC ARCO Tabasco Wellhead on the conductor. 2. Remove the well house from offset wells as required. If necessary, level the pad and prepair location for rig move. Rig 1. 2. 3. Operations: MIRU Nabors 7ES. Nipple up and function test 21-1/4" diverter system. PU 4" DP as required and stand back in derrick. MU 12-1/4" drilling assembly and drill surface hole to approximately 4105' MD / 4101' TVD. The actual surface hole TD will be +/-10' above the SV2 target sands. 4. Run and cement the 9-5/8", 40# surface casing back to surface. A port collar or stage tool will be run in the casing to allow for secondary cementing if cement is not circulated to surface during primary cementing operations. 5. ND diverter system and NU casing / tubing head. NU BOPE and test to 3000 psi. 6. MU 8-3/4" drilling assembly and RIH to float collar. Test the 9-5/8" casing to 3000 psi for 30 minutes. 7. Drill out shoe joints and displace well to 9.0 ppg 3% KCI drill-in fluid. Drill new formation to 20' below 9-5/8" shoe and perform Formation Integrity Test to 9.5 ppg. (Because the 9-5/8" surface casing is being set immediately above the SV2 target sands, a FIT test to 9.5 ppg is planned rather than a LOT. The SV2 sand is expected to be exposed after drilling 20' of new hole and this section is expected to TD at the base of this sand interval.) 8. Drill ahead to planned TD at approximately 4355' MD / 4351' TVD. POOH. 9. MU 8-3/4" clean-out assembly with 9-5/8" casing scraper. RIH with bit to TD and scraper -50' into 9- 5/8" shoe. Displace well to 8.7 ppg KCI completion brine. Filter fluid to desired specs and POOH. 10. Run in hole with the 4" Gravel Pack Liner Assembly. Set the liner top gravel pack packer and perform open hole gravel pack, placing 30 / 40 mesh sand between 8-3/4" open hole and 4" gravel pack screens. POOH laying down DP and gravel pack tools. 11. Run 4-1/2", 12.6# L-80 IBT-Mod Electric Submersible Pump completion. See attached completion schematic for details. 12. Install two-way check. Nipple down the BOPE. Nipple up and test the tree to 5000 psi. Pull two-way check and freeze protect the well to -2000'. 13. Install BPV. Secure the well and rig down / move off 7ES.
