Prudhoe Bay R-21 L1, L1-01 CTD Sidetrack March 3, 2009 Permit to Drill approval is requested to drill two coiled tubing sidetracks from well R-21 starting on May 15, 2009. R-21 was originally a Z4 Ivishak well that is currently a long term shut in for low oil production. This PTD request is needed in order to relocate the bottom hole location into 2 different parts of the Sag River Sand. R-21 has a long production history with declining production since it was originally put on production in 1983. The water cut has been steadily increasing. Cement squeezes have been attempted to shut off water production with little success. The last well test in November of 2005 resulted in 28 bopd along with 6500 bwpd. There are little remaining production opportunities for the existing Z4 Ivishak perforations in the parent well, and the well has been shut in since 2005. The sidetrack plan calls for a workover to change the production tubing from 5-1/2" L-80 to 4-1/2" 13Cr80 followed by 2 big hole sidetrack laterals completed with a slotted 2-7/8" liner in the Sag River sand. CTD Sidetrack Summary Pre-Rig Work Summary: (Scheduled to begin on April 1, 2009) 1. PT Master & Swab valve to 4500 psi. Drawdown test MV and SV to 0 psi 2. Function LDS 3. PPPOT-T. IC 4. Test separator (4000' of Sag River Slotted liner) Mud Program: • Well kill: 8.4 ppg brine. • Workover 8.4 ppg with biozan sweeps. • Milling/drilling: 8.6 ppg Flo Pro or biozan for milling, new 8.7 ppg Flo Pro for drilling. Disposal: • All drilling and completion fluids and all other Class II wastes will go to Grind & Inject. • All Class I wastes will go to Pad 3 for disposal. Hole size: 3.75"x4-1/8" (bi-center bits used) Casing Program: Slotted Liner on both laterals R-21 L1 Lateral • 2-7/8", L-80 6.16# STL Slotted Liner 10,400' and -12,600' and R-21 L1-01 Lateral • 3-1/2", 13Cr80 9.3# STL Solid Liner 9,700' and - 10,190' and • 2-7/8", L-80 6.16# STL Slotted Liner 10,190' and -14,450° and • The second lateral drilled, the R-21 L1-01 lateral, will be completed with slotted 2-7/8" liner in the open hole section and solid 3-1/2" liner in the 7" interval to maximize production hydraulics and minimize the well slugging during production. Well Control: • BOP diagram is attached. • Pipe rams, blind rams and the CT pack off will be pressure tested to 250 psi and to 3500 psi. • The annular preventer will be tested to 250 psi and 2500 psi. Directional • See attached directional plans. There are 2 directional plans attached. One for R-21 L1 which is the eastern lateral, and one for the R-21 Li -01 sidetrack which is the western/southern lateral. • Max. planned hole angle in R-21 L1 is 120 deg C~ 10,412'. • Max. planned hole angle in R-21 L1-01 is 114 deg Cu3 10,490'. • Magnetic and inclination surveys will be taken every 30 tt. No gyro will be run. • Distance to nearest property- 12,145 ft. • Distance to nearest well within pool - 640 ft. (R-31 at the top of the Sag River) Logging • MW D directional, Gamma Ray, Resistivity will be run over all of the open hole section. • Cased hole logs will not be run. Hazards • The maximum recorded H2S level on R Pad is 2200 ppm on well R-19 on 8/21/1996. • The maximum recorded H2S level on R-21 was 85 ppm on 10/28/2005. • Lost circulation risk is low. There is one significant c~e approach for these 2 sidetrack laterals; o R-21 L1 fails against R-09A. The 2 wellbores cross at 11,902' in the R-21 Li lateral. The crossing occurs with a separation of -190'. R-09A is completed in the Ivishak, and R- 21 L1 is in the Sag River sand at that crossing point. For these reasons, the hazard of a wellbore intersection is low. Reservoir Pressure • The max reservoir pressure was measured at 3,204 psi at 8800'ss on 6-22-2005. (7.0 ppg EMW). • Max. surface pressure with gas (0.10 psi/ft) to surface is 2,324 psi. Subject: RE: R-21 L1-01 (209-043) Permit to Drill Page 1 of 2 Ron, Thanks for the information. I have apprised Commissioners Foerster and Norman of your request and they have given their oral approval of your plan to alter the trajectory and steer to a new BHL more than 500' from that presently permitted. We will look for the new permit application tomorrow. Since the originally permitted BHL has not been reached, the well name will remain the same and we will reissue 209-043 with the revised BHL. Call or message with any questions. We are currently at 11,250' in the approved R-21 L1-01 lateral drilling ahead. At 11,800' (some time in the early morning) we would like to make the decision to drill out of the polygon and go with the new plan. No plug back and no open hole sidetrack just a turn in a new direction and continue on to TD. If the new direction is wet, we will plug the lateral off with an open hole plug in the Shublik, back near the kick off point. The sidetrack plan calls for a workover to change the production tubing from 5-1/2" L-80 to 4-1/2" 13Cr80. This will be followed by a partial abandonment of the perforations in the parent well below the whipstock depth of 10,200'. Parent well perforations above 10,200' will be preserved. Following the P&A, 2 big hole sidetrack laterals will be drilled and completed with a slotted 2-7/8" liner in the Sag River sand. Directional • See attached directional plans. There are 2 directional plans attached. One for R-21L1 which is the eastern lateral, and one for the R-21 L1-01 sidetrack which is the western/southern lateral. • Max. planned hole angle in R-21 L1 is 120 deg @ 10,412'. .~ • Max. planned hole angle in R-21L1-01 is 114 deg ~ 10,490'. • Magnetic and inclination surveys will be taken every 30 ft. No gyro will be run. • Distance to nearest property -12,145 ft. • Distance to nearest well within pool - 640 ft. (R-31 at the top of the Sag River) Logging • MWD directional, Gamma Ray, Resistivity will be riun over all of the open hole section. • Cased hole logs will not be run. Hazards • The maximum recorded H2S level on R Pad is 2200 ppm on well R-19 on 8/21/1996., The maximum recorded F~evel on R-21 was 85 ppm on 10/28/2005 Lost circulation risk is low. There is_one significant close approach for these 2 sidetrack laterals; o R-21L1 fails against R-09A. The 2 wellbores cross at 11,902' in the R-21L1 lateral. The crossing occurs with a separation of 190'.
