SUBJECT: Petroleum Inspector LO 31-15.DOC Location Clearance Inspection Arco #31 - 15 Swanson River Field PTD #77-012 Thursday, July 27, 1995: I made a Location Clearance inspection on the Arco well #31-15 in the Swanson River Field. This gravel pad is bisected by the access road for wells #212-10 and 32-10 farther to the North. The Buffiehead project is using the pad for a staging area while their road is being built. The following Info was on a 6" marker post: Arco Alaska Inc. On the Northwest corner of the pad is a corrugated steel storage shed (50'x30') that is being used to store misc. oilfield supplies. I found in the Northeast area of the pad (ref. LO 34-10.doc) what may be the old reserve pit. There is a depression approximately 100'X 30' with bermed sides that for the most part is heavily grown with weeds and scrub grass. Dygas, Branch Chief Division of Minerals Bureau of Land Management 6881 Abbott Loop Road Anchorage, Alaska 99507 Dear Mr. Dygas: Attached is a Sundry Notice requesting approval to temporarily abandon 31 wells in the Swanson River Field for a period of 12 months. This sundry is being submitted to comply with Chapter II, Sec. 3162.3-4, paragraph C of the Bureau of Land Management Regulations. All 31 wells are expected to be shut-in for a period of at least 30 days. The wells are separated into four categories: 1. Under evaluation for rate potential. 2. Under evaluation for P&A or future utility. 3. Inefficient producers. 4. Shut-in until blowdown. Several other items have been attached for your information. Brief explanations are given for each well that has been added or deleted from the temporarily abandoned status (Ref: your letters of 3/1/89 (3160 (984)) and 3/30/89 (3180 (984)) and our letter 12/28/88). In addition, a list of currently shut-in wells which have planned upcoming work that will enable their return to production is attached. The well was produced only 3 months before being shut-in due to water production. There is 33' of wireline fish in the 2-3/8" tubing @ 11,313'±. There is a PS plug set in the Otis "S" nipple at 11,309'. The XA sleeve at 11,344' is closed and the XA sleeve at 11,422' is open. It is unclear whether the XA sleeve at 10300 is open or closed. A CA tubing plug is set in the "D" nipple at 11,428. A wireline run on 1/19/86, tagged the PS plug at 11,304' WLM with a 1.5" tool string. The last known pressures were taken 3/1/87 - tubing = 450 psi, PC = 450 psi, SC = 0. Chevron's casing integrity test on 1/27/86 indicated production casing-tubing communication. SRU 31-15 is planned as a "rigless" P&A using a coiled tubing unit. Plans are to perforate tubing above and below the top packer and set a 2-3/8" cement retainer ±78' above it. The circulating stinger for the cement retainer will then be run on coiled tubing. The well will be killed through the retainer, the perfs squeezed off and a 500' + cement plug will be left in the tubing and in the tubing X production casing annulus above the retainer. This will also leave ±250' of cement above the liner top at 11,049'. A 150' surface plug will then be set, the wellhead cutoff at the base of the cellar and the wellbore capped. A P&A marker will be welded to the steel plate affixed to the wellbore. Please see the attached General Procedure and Proposed Final Wellbore Schematic for more detailed information. The regulation abandonment marker on SRU 31-15 will also identify the surface location of SRU 34-10. In the event 34-10 were to become a P&A candidate, the SRU 31-15 P&A marker will contain the pertinent information. The BLM must be given sufficient notice so they can witness the setting and testing of plugs, the capping of the well and the placement of the P&A marker. sR/59 ih GENERAL P & A PROCEDURE Swanson River Field SRU 31-15 1. Rig up slickline. Make GR run to PS plug. GIH and pull PS plug in Otis S4 nipple @ 11,309'. POOH. GIH and perforate 2-3/8" tubing @ 11312'. (TOF @ 11313'). POOH. 2. Go in the hole and perforate 2-3/8" tubing @ 11,295'. Make a gauge ring run to ±11,250. 3. Rig up an electric line unit. Set a 2-3/8" cement retainer at ±11,225'. 4. Rig up a coiled tubing unit. Run the circulating stinger for the cement retainer on coiled tubing. 5. Sting into retainer. Circulate 8.4 ppg lease water up tubing X production casing annulus to kill well and load it with lease water. 6. Spot a ±500' cement plug in annulus. Close well in and squeeze ±50 sx cement into open Perfs. Pull out of retainer and spot ~500' cement plug on top of retainer. 7. Pull out of the hole with the coiled tubing, displacing the 2-3/8" & 3½" tubing with 8.4 ppg (kill weight) lease water. Leave 1000 psi SI pressure on wellhead. 8. After cement sets, pressure test cement plugs in tubing and production casing to 1000 psi for 15 minutes. 9. Downsqueeze cement in 7-5/8" x 10-3/4" annulus to leave ±300' surface plug. 10. Perforate 3½" tubing at 150'-152' below ground level. 11. Spot ±150' cement surface plug in tubing and production casing. Note: If unable to downsqueeze in Step 8, the 7-5/8" will also be perforated @ 150'-152' below ground level. A ±150' cement plug will then be circulated in the 7-5/8" X 10-3/4" annulus in this step. 12. Cut off wellhead and casing strings at the base of the cellar. Weld on ¼" steel plate across wellbore. 13. Set P&A marker and fill in cellar. The P&A marker will have the following bead welded on it. Note: The marker must be at least 4" pipe, 10' long with 4' above ground level. FED ARCO Alaska, Inc. Lease A-028384 SRU #31-15 2084' FEL, 201', FSL, Sec 10, T8N, R9W, S.M. Gas and Water Entries: Gas in small quantities was encountered while drilling SRU 34-10 (adjoining well on same pad) near 9225' with a mud weight of 79-72 pcf. Major water entries were encountered, also in SRU 34-10, while drilling near 9225' with the above mud weights. A maximum mud weight of 98 pcf is programmed to overbalance the high pressure entries above the E IV-.E D No problems are anticipated while drilling the Hemlock with the 1977 scheduled mud weights. ..... udi,&~.~omust be exercised at all times not to swab or hydraulic the hole when tripping. Programmed mud weights will provide the necessary overbalance. B. Lost Circulation: Minor lost 'circulation problems were encountered' in SRU 34-10, when breaking circulation. Some LCMmay be used as a pretreatment, if required, until casing is set at the top of the Hemlock interval. No problems are anticipated, while drilling the Hemlock, using the scheduled mud weights. C~ Pre6autions: Any kicks should be handled by the normal procedures. Drilling crews should be made aware of these methods, by scheduled BOP and kick drills, which are to be recorded on the Tour Sheets.
