Beach #2 Prudhoe Bay Field Sunday, September 24, 1995: ! traveled this date to ARCO's PBU well West Beach State #2 and witnessed the setting of the surface P&A cement plug setting. A CIBP had previously been run and set at 160' in the 9.625" casing. The tubing had been cut off at 200' and removed. ' The plug was set by running 150' of 1" tubing into the 9.625" casing and pumping 18bbis (125 sacks )if 15.8lbs./gal. cement slurry down the 1" pipe. Cement was circulated back to surface and the 1" was removed from the casing leaving the cement at pad level. The casing will be cut 3' below the tundra and a P&A marker plate will be installed at a later date. I told Mike Reynolds, ARCO rep., .to notify the AOGCC inspector when the casing was cut off so an inspector could verify the cement in the 9.625" and 13.325" casings. Initial production was 1370/24/203 O/W/G at a GOR of 148 cuft/bbl. This well produced without major problems, declining at + 20% per year until January, 1974 when it was acidized with 12-10 mud acid. After this acid job, water cut increased to 100% and the well was shut-in in February, 1974. The water production probably came from the H4 and H5 sands. SCU 31-16 was redrilled as SCU 3lA-16 in June, 1975. It was completed in the H3 sand only. The H4 and H5 sands were tested and found wet. The H2 sand was not perforated because the possi'blity of gas. was i'ndi'- cated on the logs. The initial production was 412/4/3690 O/W/G at a GOR of 8956 cuft/bbl. The gas production quickly declined to solution GOR. This well continued to produce + 300 BOPD at solution GOR until September, 1976 when the H2 sand was perforated. Oil production increased to 1,000+ B/D and then declined to + 500 by December, 1976. Gas production rapidly increased from solution ~OR to swing well GOR by August, 1977. SCU 3lA-16 is currently being used as a swing well and is produci'ng 300 BOPD at GOR's ranging from 35-45,000 cuft/bbl. The proposed work is based on a job done i'n June, 1977 to SCU 34-9. SCU 34-9 is located + 1,300 ft upstructure from SCU 31A-16. The tubing and packers were pulled, repaired and reran to isolate the H2 sand. Prior to this work SCU 34-9 was producing 300-600 BOPD at GOR's ranging from 20-39,000 cuft/bbl. After the.H2 was excluded the well produced 1,000 to 1,500 BOPD at 2-5,000 GOR from the H3 and H5 sands. SCU 34-9 is currently producing + 500 BOPD at 8,000 GOR from the H3 sand only. By running segregation packers in SCU 3lA-16 and excluding the H2 sand and prodcing only the H3 sand, we should'be able to produce 300 BOPD at + 9,000 GOR. Economics should be based on the net effective oil gain. With the current Swanson River swing well GOR's running + 36,000 cuft/bbl the net effective oil gain for this job is 225 BOPD. ,,~ SCU 3lA-16 SWANSON RIVER FIELD TOTAL DEPTH' 11,026' PLUGS' 11,026' - 10,995' with cement retainers at 10,890' and 10,860'. Last Production: February, 1974, 100% water. Proposal for Well Operations PRO 316-1 Rework Of SCU 31-16 Blowout Prevention Consideration: 1. Potential Problems: A. - Gas: Gas may be encountered any time after releasing packers, ~uring cleanout of 7" prior to abandonment and while redrilling. Care must be exercised at all times not to swab well.' Hemlock datum pressure at -10,300' vss (10,629' MD in 31-16) was measured to be 3970 psig on April 21, 1975. The programmed mud weight of 80 pcf will provide 1750 psi overbalance. B. Water Entries: Extreme caution must be exercised while rework- ing. A mud weight of up to 98 pcf ma___y_y be required to overbalance potential high pressure entries above the.Hemlock. This well was originally drilled with 92-97 pcf mud from 9000' to TD without entry problems. C. LOst Circulation: The programmed mud weight of 80 pcf at KOP is the minimum which can be used to provide adequate overbalance for the zones above the Hemlock. In 1969, while drilling with 98 pcf mud at 8759', lost 200 barrels mud in one hour prior to reducing to 95 pcf. Because of the low Hemlock pressure (3970 psi) in this part of the reservoir, lost circulation in these zones could definitely occur. LCM should be kept on hand at all times. D. Precautions: Any kicks should be handled by normal procedures. Drilling crews should be made aware of these methods and care must be exercised by every member at all times. The hole must be kept~full. 2. Maximum Anticipated Formation Pressure: Est. 4080 psi at Hemlock H-4 Point (Target) Est. 5000 psi in gas sands above Hemlock 3. Maximum Possible Surface Pressure: 3400 psi 4. Blowout Prevention Equipment: A. As per "Operating Instructions D-17." B. claSs III, 10" - 5000 psi for all work. Release packe~s at 10,808' and 10,921' (50,0009 shear) and pull production equipment slowly to minimize swabbing. Examine jewelry for damages and note depths. · 7. Mill-over and recover Baker "F" packer at 10,973. Cleanout to below bottom of perforations at 11,000'. 8. Equalize cement plug in stages, if necessary, from effective depth to 10,750'+. Downsqueeze 100 lineal feet. 9. Run bit and locate top of cement. If necessary, recement to 10,750'+. DOG to witness. N6te: Development Geology is considering the prospect to formation test the "G" sand interval 10,670 - 10,725'. If this is con- firmed, then a supplementary field program will be submitted to test the "G" sand and then to squeeze the "G" Perfs. 10. Pressure test the 7" casing to 3000 psi with rig pumps for 15 minutes. 11. Condition mud to 80 pcf. 12. Plug the window with densified cement (126-129 pcf). Top of plug is to be 150'+ above top of window. Downsqueeze, leaving top of plug 50'+ .above window. 14. Drill out cement plUg to 2' below top of window. 15. Sidetrack original hole and directionally redrill 6" hole to a total depth of 11,026'. A directional plat will be furnished, but the target is the base of H5 sand ~H4 point) ~eviated 320'+ in a N 50° W direction. Note: Redrill operations will start With 80 pcf mud. The system is to be continually monitored and mud weight is to'be increased only as required to Combat high pressure entry. Excessive mud weight will result in serious loss circulation while drilling the Hemlock. 16. At T.D., condition mud for logs. Obtain a 1/2 gallon sample of drill- ing fluid before pulling out of the hole. 17. Run Schlumberger Dual Induction Laterolog with SP, Microlog, BHC Sonic with SP, and Compensated Neutron - Density Log from T.D. to the 7" casing. Have dipmeter on location. A.
