This proposal was discussed with AOGCC representatives Bill Barnwell, Blair Wondzell, Russ Douglas and Mike Minder at a meeting held November 18, 1987 at the Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation Commission, 3001 Porcupine Drive, Anchorage, Alaska. Well GC-2B requires abandonment because of wellbore fill across the perforation interval which is prohibiting fluid injection. Four attempts have been made at cleaning out wellbore fill with coiled tUbing. All attempts have been unsuccessful. A replacement injection well is being planned at this pad and will be covered under a separate Permit To Drill. The abandonment of Well GC-2B is tentatively scheduled for December, 1987. Because of this fill problem, it is requested that a variance be made to 20 AAC 25.105 (h) (1) (A) requiring the placement of a cement plug across the perforation interval. The proposed abandonment procedure involves setting a permanent bridge plug in .the-'tailpipe and placing a minimum 250' cement plug above the bridge plug in both the production tubing and the annulus. This will preven'tlfluid migration within the ~e'llbore and will ensure that all sUbsurface waters are confined to their indigenous strata. It is also requested that a waiver, be made to 20 AAC 25.120 (a) regarding a 'marker post for abandonment. Such a marker post would present a physical obstruction to future equipment mobility at the Gathering Center pad. Instead, it .is proposed to secure a steel plate to 'the casing with the required information bead- welded t° the top,of the plate as per 20 AAC 25.120 (d). · WELL GC-2B ABANDONMENT PROCEDURE OUTLINE It is recommended to abondon Well GC-2B utilizing the following NRWO techniques: 1. Set permanent bridge plug in 4-1/2" tailpipe. Pressure test to confirm formation isolation. 2. Punch 4-1/2" tubing above packer at approx. 2650' MD. 3. Change tubing and inner annulus over to 9.6 ppg NaCl brine. 4. Rig up CTU. Batch mix low fluid loss Class G cement slurry. 5. RIH with CTU and tag 4-1/2" bridge plug. Circulate 10 Bbls. cement through CTU while POH at the same rate as cement fill- up. When all cement has been displaced out of the coil, pull CTU above cement top. Open 9-5/8" annulus and displace 4.7 bbls down the CTU while taking annulus returns at surface. This will leave a minimum 250' cement plug in both the 4-1/2" tubing and 4-1/2" x 7" annulus. 6. WOC. Pressure test 4-1/2" tubing and 7" x 4-1/2" annulus to ensure cement plug integrity. 7. Tag TD with wireline to confirm cement top. Cut 4-1/2" tubing at approx. 200' below ground level. Remove Christmas tree, tubing hanger and recover tubing. 8. Cut 7" circulating string ~at approx. 195' below ground level. Remove '7" spool and to recover 7" circulating string. 9. Cut 9-5/8" casing at approx. 190' below ground level. Remove 9-5/8" spool and recover 9-5/8"'casing. · 10. Set permanent bridge plug in .13-3/8" casing at approx. 185' below ground level. 11. Cut 13-3/8" casing at conductor pipe and recover. 12. RIH with CTU and tag 13-3/8" bridge plug. Circulate permafrost cement through CTU to lay surface cement from bridge plug to within 5' of ground level. 13. Secure abandonment flat plate marker to the casing with the following information bead-welded to the steel plate: OPERATOR: Standard Alaska Production Company UNIT: Prudhoe Bay Unit WELL NO.: GC-2B LOCATION: 1734' SNL, 1673' EWL, Sec. 16, TllN, R13E, UPM 14. ANCHORAGE, ALASKA 99509 January 12, 197~' - ~" ~'"' '~'~' .'-., d i'i : ~ ,., ~ :~'~ . i ' ~ -' · . Dear'Sir: ~'~-;~ ~.~ 4 ~-;~ It is anticipated that relatively little water will be produced with the hydrocarbons from the Sadlerochit reservoir during the initial years of production from the Prudhoe Bay Field. BP Alaska intends to dispose of any such saline water by injecting into the Upper Cretaceous "A" and "E" sands, TheSe sands are defined by those occurring in the intervals from 3587' to 3654' and from 5110' to 5338' (DIL depth BKB) respectively in BP disposal well GC-2B, The overall concept and plans for disposal of Sadlerochit waste water into Tertiary/Cretaceous water-bearing sands were outlined in BP Alaska DocUment GE 315, entitled "Sadlerochit Waste Water Disposal Wells GC-2A and GC-2B", presented to you on August 12, 1975. At tha~ time, BP outlined plans for extensive coring and testing to be performed in the aforementioned wells in order to evaluate the injectivity characteristics of the "A" and "E" sands. GC-2A and GC'2B have now been drilled and tested and the pertinent data obtained are attached. The test program used on GC-2A and GC-2B consisted primarily of producing from the "E" and "A" sands individually in GC-2B and injecting into the "E" sand in GC-2A during several injection periods. After completion of the."E" sand injection tests in GC-2A, one mud tank volume (820 bbls.) was injected into the "A" sand in GC-2B. The injection tests in both sands were followed by pressure fall-offs which were used for calculation of permeabilities and skin effect (see Attachments A and B). Also, a step rate injectivity test on the "E" sand was useful in establishing its fracture gradient of 0.67 psi/ft. Due to the limited amount of water available and the high permeability of the "A" sand, it was not possible to determine its fracture gradient. During the production of the "E" and "A" sands in GC-2B, representative formation water samples were obtained and analyzed as shown in Attachment C. In summary, the total dissolved solids content of the "A" sand water is 11,119 and of the "E" sand water is 36,808 parts per'million. The major conclusion from.the injectivity tests is that the effective permeability of the "E" sand is much less than we had originally estimated. Also, even though the "A" sand is thinner than the "E" sand, its permeability thickness product is approximately three times as great. We feel, therefore, that the "A" sand is a much better candidate for disposal of waste water and would certainly be adequate to handle the anticipated volumes of waste water during the first two to three years of production. After that time, however, it may be necessary to have additional intervals available for disposal. The "E" sand would probably provide sufficient additional injection capacity. Mr. O. K~'Gilbreth State of Alaska -2- January 12, 1975 With the foregoing in mind, BP Alaska Inc. proposes the following plan for disposal of Sadlerochit waste water: 1. The "A" sand at BP Gathering Centers 1 and 3 will be the primary disposal interval. 2,. Ail water disposal wells will be drilled to the base of the "E" sand. Future wells will be completed as "A" sand disposal wells. 3. ,~The "E" sand at BP Gathering Center 2 will be the primary disposal interval. However, if an appropriate stimulation treatment of the "E" sand cannot be found, ~GC-2A will be recompleted as an "A" sand disposal well. · 4, When produced water volumes become excessive for "A" sand disposal, the "E" sand will also be opened for disposal, BP AlaSka Inc. therefore requests approval for the aforementioned plan of action. We believe that this disposal of water into~ the "A" and "E" sands will not contaminate any freSh water sources or endanger any other natural resources. SinCe we are currently drilling the water disposal wells at Gathering Center 1, your expeditious handling of this request Will be greatly appreciated, Should you require any additional information to act upon this proposal, do not hesitate to call on us.
