A Field ~nspectlon R ~eport ~s prepared (copy attached) and one copy was mailed to I~. R~ggan. ? State of Alaska DATE: FILE NO: TELEPHONE NO: SUBJECT: August 4, 1975 Abandon Location of Ttpco Pretty Creek State #1 Sec. 2, T14N, RIOW, SM. ~.]Y .gg., .1975 - I de~d Merrill Field .at 12:05 PM with Lonnie Smlth ~ RuSSell oouglass on a charter .flight from Spernak Airways. Ed Barber, with t~ State Division of Lands, and Ron Riggan with Texas International PetrOleum Company (Ttpco), traveled with us on a separate flight. We arrived at Belusm River 6as Field airstrip at 12:30 PM and drove with Barber and Rtggan to the locattoa which.is about 19 miles from the airstrip. In lns~tfng ~ locatioe we ..found. the pad to be fairly clean and level. There were several problem areas, however, that we discussed at length with Mr. Ri-ggan. The well marker was unstable..The cellar had been ftlled with a poor qualtty ceIat that covered the wellhead. We could ~ot see how the wellhead marker was atta~ to ~ wellhead but it was obviously unstable, ge discussed this with Mr. Rtgga, and asked him to dig .out. the. cement down to the wellhead and weld or propam, ly cemeat the marker in the wellhead. The well tndenttfl, catton infor- mation was bead welded on the marker but was missing part of the locatton data. The missing data was given to Mr. Riggan so that it can be added to the marker. The rat bole and the mouse hote. casing were sttl I tn place and exposed. (See Photo ~1). Since reamval of these pieces of pipe ts not feasible at thts time we suggested that a cover be welded over each of them and then covered with gravel. The cellar was cased with a large diameter piece of corregated pipe that was exposed at the surface. Me discussed this problem with Mr. Rtggan and suggested that the ceIlar casl,g either be removed or well covered with grave1. A water well cased wi.th 6" P!!~ ~ is located off the edge o.f the pad. This well was not a good producer of water .so we asked that this well casing be cut-off as low as posstblea a protective cover be welded on the pipe, and then covered with gravel. The :greater part of the reset_ pit has. been well filled and leveled with gravel but-water is still standtmj at one .end of the reserve pit area. (See Photo #2). A sizea-ble volume of dried cement has been dumped off the edge of the pad. (~e Photo #3).. Bo~ of these .areas require-additional clean-up and dirt work. After discussing all of these POints with Mr. Rtggau we returned to the Beluga River airstrip where )Ir. Rig§an arranged for a welder and other workmen to do the necessary ~ mm the l~tiou, Mr,. Rtggan estimated that the work would be completed and rea~ for t~spectton on Thursday July 31. 0.' K.' G-tl~th, ,3r. Page 2 T. St~gg...Fteld 'Trtp Report_?/~'~ August 4, 1975 t~. Rlggan ~ I~. Then, giro and I. walked the per, meter of the drilling pad, in- spected the reserve pit, burn pit, flow and ktll lines, choke manifold, BOP s~k, ~ cen~ls, boiler, and operations on and off the pad.$~ I noted that g ~ene-ral housekeeping on ~ pad needed improvement. Small debre needed picking up, and stockplling of supplles should be more orderly. There were no opera- tion:s off-pad; however, there.was a small trench 'from the botlers through the snow berm and off the Pad.. The trench was made by hot water being drained off the boi'lers each work tower. The boiler bl. owdown should be directed to the re,rye pit to preclude harmful l tqu.tds from getting off-pad via the trench. ! advised Jim of my observattons taeediately. Within an hour the above trench had been el lminated and a boiler water trench had been dug to the reserve pit. The :BOP pressure test started at 10:35 AM. The test plug on the rig was not used because four 3-/4" plugs ?it required were missing. The blind rams were closed. The blind rams; the val~ves on the ktl.1 line, choke line, and choke manifold were each tested at 3-000 psig satisfactorily. An attempt to close the Swaco Super choke with' the remote controls failed. [t was steamed and adjusted but it sttll wouldn'.t close so Jim called the Swaco rePairman to come out of Anchorage. The pf-pe rams were opened and ..the hydrtl was. closed, on a ~otnt of plugged drill pipe. Pressure was applied to the. 9-5/8" casing and the hydrtl but thts pt~ped the drill p'lpe out of the hole. The drill p'ipe ~ms chained do~ but that fa~led to keep the ptpe in the-hole. A search turned up some-3/4" plugs for the test plug; The test plug was installed on the drill pipe and set in the drilling spo~. The hydr~l, wa.s closed and tested at 2450 psig without leaktng and then the plpe rams were successfully tested at 3400 pstg. The test plug was removed, the kelly was_. picked up ar~! the. kelly cock was tested from above 'through t~he rotary hose at 2150 ps-tH, wi.~ut leakl,g. I had ..1tm operate the fi ocr valve. ' / ! At 2:15 PM the crew started ptcktng up the d~111 string to clea. cement out of the hole ~htle ~e ~tted on tl~ Swa~ r~patrman. Whtle doing thts! asked ~lm to operate the BOP's ~'th the reeete ceatrols. The BOP's couldn't be closed with the remote contra1 s. The Swaco repre, sente.ttve arrived, at 4:45 PM and traced the trouble to a loose concoction in a peeumttc coetrol 1tee. The choke ~as repaired at $:SO PM and successfully tested at 2~0 pstg at 7:25 PM. ! noted results of my visit ena "Field !nspectloa Report" Including the following deficiencies: (1) The reaot~ BOP controls ~ere inoperative. These must' be repaired and reported to me by 2/3/75. (2) A general sm11 trash clean-up of the lecatl~ was. needed. (3) ~pplles tn disarray must be prop- erly stockilY. I discussed ~ report with ~tim gc&ee and left a copy with him. ~tm bad already arranged for .repairs to be made on the remote BOP con- trols aad said he'd get started on items (2) &nd (3) tmmedi&tely. I sent a copy of my "Field I~pectton Report" to Oale Chase, TIPCO division manager i,n Aachorage, and a cepy ts attached. -On February 4, 1975, Dale Chase ad~Ised me -by phone that the BOP remote con- trols ~ beea repaired aed ~ere working .properly. On this field trip I tested tt~ blmmut preventers and related equtpme.t on the TZPCO- Pretty Creek No. I Well. I also inspected the locatton and drtlltng operations. All 1terns were satisfactory except: (1) the remote BOP controls failed to function and were subsequently repaired, (2) a general trash cleaa,-up" of the location was required, and (3) suppltes were required ~. be properly stockpiled._ Attachment TIPCO TEX./"]S INTERNATIONAL PETRC~--'UM CORPORATION OIL & GAS PRODUCERS & OPERATORS March 14, 1975 Mr. Hoyle H. After waiting on cement to set for a minimum of 12 hours, the casing is to be cut off, a 20" series 600 weld- on flange is to be welded on the 20" conductor, a flanged 20" series 600 x 20" series 600 spool with a 20" Hydril TEXAS INTERNATIONAL PETROLEUM CORPORATION and bell nipple installed to nipple up the flow l~ne. A vent line with a "quick" opening valve is to be connected to the casing spool outlet and a line laid to a flare pit. This diverter line is then to be staked to the ground. Drill pipe is then to be run, and the drill pipe, casing, cement, spool, and hydr[1 are to be pressured up and dry tested to, sis. A mud logging unit is to be installed and drilling is then to be commenced using a 17~" bit and mud with general characteristics of 9.0 to 9.5#/gal., viscosity of 40 to 45 seconds with no water loss control. Hole deviations dur- ing entire drilling operation shall be checked at 500 foot intervals. After reaching 2300 feet, hole is to be circu- lated, cleaned, and logged. [Surface casing consisting of 13-3/8", 61#, K-55, ST&C with float shoe, and stab-in type collar, and central- izers is then to be run and the hole cleaned told by circu- lating drilling mud. The casing is then to be cemented to the surface of the ground by the use of 2,300 cubic feet (150% calculated fill-up) of a slurry composed of Class "G" cement, gel and an accelerator. After waiting on cement for a minimum of 12 hours, the 20" BOP stack will be picked up and the 13-3/8" backed out. A female threaded 13-3/8" x 13-5/8" flanged 5000 psi bradenhead is to b~ installed and nippling up completed by incorporating 5000 psig double gate BOPs and a 5000 psig -2- TEXAS INTERNATIONAL PETROLEUM CORPORATION hydril. Drill pipe is then to be run and casing, cement and BOP stack tested to'~"i,500?Ps'ig. .~!? '?:'~"::~ ?~"~ Drilling is then to proceed using 12k" rock bits to approximately 7,000 feet. During this drilling, extreme c.are will be taken to ascertain any radical changes in rate of penetration, shale density, rate of returns, etc., to determine any abnormal pressure zones which dictate a casing point. For killing procedures, circulating pres- sures will be routinely recorded each tour at one-half normal pump rates. Mud properties shall be controlled to maintain a-weight of 9.5 to 10 pounds ~er gallon, viscosity in the 45-second range, and water loss gradually reduced to approximately 15 cc by the time 7,000 feet is reached. The hole is then to be circulated, cleaned, and logged. 9-5/8", 47#, N-80 casing with a float shoe and float collar and centralizers is then to be run to total depth. The casing is then to be cemented' with 500 cubic feet of cement (calculated to fill approximately 1,500 feet of annular space. ) After a minimum of 12 hours the 5000 psi stack will be picked up, the 9-5/8" hung and packed off in the casing- head, the casing cut off, the 5000 psi stack set back down and bolted up to the 13-5/8" flange on the bradenhead. BOP stack, head, casing and cement will be tested to ............ 2 500 pS~. ' Drilling is then to proceed using 8½" rock bits to -3- TEXAS INTERNATIONAL PETROLEUM CORPORATION the total depth of 10,000 feet. It is anticipated that the properties of the drilling m~d in this portion of the hole will be 13 to 15 pounds per gallon, viscosity 40 to 45 seconds, and water loss of approximately 10cc. The hole will then be logged and determinations made as to whether testing is warranted. If so, a 7" liner will be run and cemented, and production tests run through per- forations. It is not planned that any open hole tests be con- ducted in any of the hole except the 8½". Any tests re- quired above the casing point of the 9-5/8" protection pipe shall be conducted after reaching total 'depth and shall be conducted through perforations. It is anticipated that significant shows will be cored when practical for further evaluation, using a diamond corehead in any interval of the hole where such shows may occur. -4- PRETTY CREEK #1 Plugging Information TEXAS INTERNATIONAL PETROLEUM CORPORATION Verbal permission and procedure as to plugging subject well obtained from Mr. John Miller by TIPCO's Jim McGee by tele- phone on 2-12-75.
