Confirming telephone conversation between Mr. K. Vanderahe and Mr. W. T~nker on August 20, 1974, we propose to perforate the basal 20' of the Hemlock Number 8 sand during a pull job to repair damaged tubing. A copy of our program is attached. AU(3 3 3 1974 DIVISION OF OIL AND SIGNED '' TITLE Area Engineer DATE 8/?-~74 (This space for State off~e u~e)- APPROVED BY~TLE CONDITIONS OF APPROVAL, IF ANY.. See Instructions On Reverse Side Approved Copy WELL SCU 24-5 SWANSON RIVER FIELD Proposal: Pull the production tubing, replace damaged equipment, perforate the basal 20' of the Hemlock-No. 8 sand, rerun the'production jewelry and tubing, and return to production. Discussion: _ · For-the past several weeks the average field production rate has been down 1000-1500 B/D oil. The offending well was traced to SCU 24-5. At SCU 24-5 not only was the oil rate down 8-900 B/D, but gas volumes over 20,000 MCF/D were being produced.. These high gas volumes restrict production in other producers. After all mechanical attempts were exhausted to insure that only the 7 and upper and lower H-8 were opento production, a spinner survey was run to determine the source of the gas entry.-Thespinner survey indicated a gas entry from the sleeve at 10,602' (from the H-2 sand) and the sleeve at 10,715' (from the H-5 sand). These sleeves-.are either stuck open or cut. out. Additional small entries were noted-in the tubing between 10,740' and- 10,730' and 10,688' and 10,680'. At the completion of the spinner survey, the tool became stuck at 10,300' in asphaltine in the 2 3/8" tubing. During the proposed work to repair the damaged tubing noted above, we pro- pose to perforate the basal 20' of the H-8 sand from 10,866' to 10,886'. Water saturation calculations in this 20' interval are the same as those in the perforated H-8 sand immediately above the proposed perforations. . · -AU8 2 2 197 DNISION OF OIL AND GAS PROPOSAL FOR WELL OPERATIONS PRO 316-1 WELL PULLING PROGRAM ~e!l: SCU 24-5 · Field: Swanson River Prpperty: Soldotna Creek Unit- Surface LOcation: '1058' north and 1497' west'of the SE corner, Section 5; TTN; R9W; SB & M. Bottom Hole Location: Approximately 2950' west and 1000' north of the southeast corner of Section 5, T. 7 N., R. 9 W. Elevations: 137' G.L.; Estimated 152' K.B. Blowout Prevention Considerations: 1. Potential Problems A. Gas: _ JUI. 1 73 DIVI,SION C'F OIL AND GAS ANCHORAGE Gas sands may be encountered at any depth below the shoe of the surface casing. Care must be exercised at all times not to swab the well during trips. B. Water Entries: No water entries occurred while drilling wells SCU 34-5, 43-5, 21-8, 41-8 and Halbouty King #1. These wells were drilled with 93-95 pcf mud. Although circulation was lost three times while drilling SCU 14-5, no entries were reported. While drilling SCU 14-5, the mud weight was cut to 81 pcf and 87 pcf from 90-91 pcf at 8312' and 8469' respectively. There was no gain in pit volume reported. Care must be exercised at all times, whi~e drilling for high pressure entries. C Lost Circulation: Lost circulation occurred three times while drilling well SCU 14-5. The depths and amount of mud loss are tabulated below: Depth of Mud Wt At Rig Operation at Loss Time of Loss Time of Loss 8469' 91 pcf Raised weight to control gas cut mud. Lost 30 bbls. in 2 hours. 8802' 92 pcf Lost 50 bbls on trip. 10165' 93 pcf Drilled 3' after trip, lost complete circulation total loss 300 bbls. -2- In all cases above circulation was regained after lost circulation material was added to the system. As noted before, there were no entries associated with the loss. D. Precautions: Recent drilling at Swanson has been performed with 98 pcf mud. Due to the lost circulation experienced while drilling SCU 14-5 and the absence of kicks in this and surrounding wells, a + 93-95 pcf mud has been programmed. In conjunction with this proposal, extreme care must be exercised while drilling this well. Any kicks should be handled by our normal procedures. An adequate supply of lost circulation and weight material should be maintained on the location at all times. Care must be exercised at all times not to swab the well while pulling or running in the hole too fast and causing lost circulation. The hole must be kept full at all times. 2. Maximum Anticipated Formation Pressure: 4500 psig 3. Maximum Potential Surface Pressure: 3000 psig. 4. Blowout Prevention Equipment: A. As per "Operating Instructions D-17". B.
