February 4, 1983 Mr. T. L. Perryman Area Operations Superintendent Chevron U. S, A., Inc. P. O. Box 7-839 Anchorage, Alaska 99410 Dear }~. Perryman :~ The Alaska Oil a~d Gas Conservation Commission has recently checked the records of wells completed since January 1, 1979. This review has revealed that the digitized data for certain logs run in a well is not on file with the Commission. The Oil and Gas Regulations require the operator to ftle,'withtn' 30 days after completion, suspension, or abandonment of a drilling well, the digitized data, if available, for copying, for all logs run in the well except velocity surveys, experimental logm and dip- meter surveys. We would request that you check your records to see if the data-has been submitted to the Commission and, if not, that you comply with the regulation with regard to the following wells~ Swanson River Unit No. 31-33 WD Soldotna Creek Unit No. 44-8A Pretty Creek Unit No. 2. Existing surface pad for SCU 14-9 and SCU 11-16. P~oposed Bottom Hole Location: Approximately 750' north and 720' west of southeast corner of Section 8, T7N, R9W, SB & M. Elevation: Approximately 163' G.L.; estimated 178' K.B. Blowout PreventiOn Considerations: 1. Potential Problems: A. Gas and Water Entries: Gas sands may be encountered at any depth below the shoe of the surface casing. No gas or water entries were reported while drilling wells eCU 11-16 and eCU 14-9 with 96-99 pcf mud. A gas entry occurred in SCU 43-8 at 7543~ while drilling with 95.5 pcf mud, and a gas entry was reported at 7547' in eCU 33-8 while drilling with 94 pcf mud. Gas and water entries occurred ~n eCU 34-8 near 8200' and 10,300' with 93-94 pcf mud. Caution should be exercised not to swab the hole on trips. Gas and water entries can cause severe problems, and the mud system' should be carefully monitored at all times. B. Lost Circulation: Lost circulation was not reported in surrounding wells SCU 33-8, SCU 34-8, SCU 43-8, SCU 11-16, and SCU 14-9 while d~illing with up to 101 pcf mud. Lost circulation occurred at SCU 21-8 at 6800' with 93 pcf mud in the hole and at SCU 14-5 at 8469', 8802', and 10,165' in 91.-93 pcf mud. Lost circulation has occurred in other wells while drilling the Hemlock with ~98 pcf mud. In SCU 44-8, casing will be cemented above the Hemleck zone before mud weight is reduced to penetrate the interval. C. Precautions: Any kicks should be handled by our no~al procedures. Drilling crews should be made aware of these methods. Care should be exercised at all times, but especially not to hydraulic the formation and lose circulation while running in the hole nor swab the hole while pulling. An adequate supply of weight and lost circulation material should be at the wellsite at all times. 2. Maximum Anticipated Formation Pressure: 4800 psi~ 3. Drill top hole to 3,400'+ with salvaged mud, if available. 2. Convert top hole mud to gel mud while drilling from 3,400' to 6,000'. At 6,000', increase weight and have mud properties as listed in Column No. 3 at 7,000'. 3. Use medium treated lignosulfonate mud below 6,000'. 4. Limit dry jobs to 20 sacks of barite or as directed by Drilling Foreman. 5. Maintain an adequate supply of lost circulation material at the rig. 6. Make a High Pressure - High Temperature Fluid Loss determination every third day. Make fluid loss tests at estimated bottom hole temperature 170°F. 7. Maintain total hardness under 100 ppm and report all versenate titration as JUN 2, 974 ~%¢~ / 33,7 /m-~ o 0___2 z3s.7* /0,270 Young " own OIL COUNTRY TUBULAR GOODS 75/8" CASING DESIGN CHART CASING DEPTI~ PROGRAM (FT.) , 3 85o' ' /v-Bo . l ~o' . . ~7o~ 5'8oo ~/ 7~' ~t t o ', , ,, o DEPTH, FEET LB./GAL ' ' 19 ~8 ....... 17 16 15 LB./CU.
