Slight communication from the upper packer to production casing has been noted, yet is not enough to cause the well to fail an AOGCC witnessed MIT nor to subject the production casing to a pressure that exceeds the hoop stress regulation set forth in Rule 4 of AOGCC Area Injection Order No. 2. The present condition of the well is operationally safe and poses no threat to the integrity of the production casing. The communication will be monitored closely to note any changes in its present condition. Background This water injector was noted to have slight communication from the tubing to production casing. The production casing would be bled below 2000 psi (tubing=2550 psi), only to have the pressure increase back to 2200+ psi over the course of 5 days. Continued bleeding of the production casing was halted in fear of drawing water up into the permafrost region of the production casing. Sequence 8/1/88: 8/25/88: 10/3/88: 6/1/89' 8/06/89' of Events Failed an AOGCC witnessed MIT. Wellhead check found no leaks. Passed an AOGCC witnessed MIT. attached. Annulus pressured to above 2000 psi. bleed down failed. Dummied C Sand to lower pressure on C Sand side of upper packer. Annulus did not repressure. Report Attempts to Conclusion: Attachments: Source of communication is from the C Sand side of the upper packer to the 7" casing. 1) AOGCC MIT of 10/3/88 RECEIVED 2) lA-16 Well Schematic Alaska 0il h Gas Cons. In order to establish the ability to inject into the Lower Kuparuk Sands, Arco Alaska, Inc. intends to perform a .third water injectivity test. Previous tests have proven unsuccessful in establishing injection into the Lower Sand at pressures below formation parting pressure. Because of the importance of this ,information to Increment I Waterflood planning, we plan to attempt injection into the Lower Sand of Kuparuk 1A-16A. The well will be initially perforated from 7016'-7024' and 7034'-7056'. After perforating, the well will be allowed to flow to production for approximately one month to clean up the formation. A well test will then be conducted to determine the extent :of any formation damage present. Based on the well test, a decision will be made with regard to an acid stimulation. If no stimulation is required, or after the stimulation is performed, the injectivity test will be run. We will inject water for 2-5 days, shut in for pressure falloff, perform a step rate test, and shut in for a final pressure falloff. After the test, we will attempt to flow the well back for 1-2 weeks, at which point we will perforate and test the Upper and Middle Sands at 6772'-6842' and 6870'-6884'. The well will then be flowed to the CPF. Perforating of the Lower Sand will begin March 24, 1982. Injection testing is currently planned for early ~.~ay and should last no longer than 10 days. 14. ANTICIPATED PRESSURES Expected reservoir pressure in the Kuparuk interval has been determined to.be 3145 psig from RFT & pressure buildup data. This pressure @ 6010' SS : 6110'TVD will be balanced by 9.9 ppg mud wt. Normal drilling practice calls for 10.4 ppg wt prior to penetration and during drilling of the Upper Kuparuk and remaining 'intervals. This will result in a 159 psi overbalance. It is anticipated the surface BOPE equipment could be subjected to a maximum of 2635 psi during drilling operations. Derivation assumes a gas kick at reservoir temperature and pressure (160°F, 3145 psi), gas migration to the surface w/o expansion, and cooling to 60°F cellar temperature. This is well below the 5000 psig BOPE working pressure and less than the 3000 psi weekly test pressure. Pi = pressure 'initial (reservoir) Ti = temperature initial (reservoir) Vi = volume initial (reservoir) Pf = pressure final (surface) Tf = temperature final (surface) Vf = volume final (surface) PiVi = PfVf T i = Tf Since Vi = Vf ie no expansion Pi = Pf l~ Tf Then Pf = PiTf = (3160 psia)(60°F + 460) Ti (160°F + 460) Pf = 2650 psia = 2635 psig RECEIVED FEE 0 Oil & Gas Cons.
