With both Br 5RD-86 and Br 6-42 down with mechanical integrity issues, we needed an alternative injection well to handle the platforms produced water. This well was tested originally with the other two as a third candidate for produced water injection. Since it came in third best, we alternated between 5RD-86 and 6-42 for the injection until recent integrity events forced a change. The field will be requesting an inspector to witness an injecting MIT on this well next week as thermal effects will have finished by then. You will notice that the in-house MIT was —50 psi short of the required minimum test pressure but clearly indicated mechanical integrity. The witnessed test next week will need to be at a slightly higher pressure on the annulus. Thank you. Larry 1 I STATE OF ALASKA . Alaska 99501-3509 Dear Tom: Unocal is continuing to evaluate the feasibility of reinstituting water injection on the Bruce platform. Injectivity tests were run on wells 5-86, 6-42 and 12-42 on April 20 and 21. Injection was established in all three wells at pressures well below the fracture pressure. All three wells maintained mechanical integrity during the tests, and no increase in casing pressure was observed during the test period. Well 6-42 took water at the lowest injection pressure. Final injection rates and pressures for the 3 wells were as follows: Br 6-42 Br 5-86 Br 12-42 14 GPM (480 B/D) 15 GPM (514 B/D) 15 GPM (514 BID) 2,400 psi 4,200 psi 5,000 psi Each of the three wells was tested for approximately 6 hours. A summary of the tests is attached. State form 404 for each of the wells is also included. While the tests confirmed that injection into the wells was possible, the fact that injection pressures continued to increase during the test, and the short term duration of the tests made it difficult to determine the long " term injectivity of these wells. Based on the results of the test, Unocal requests permission to perform a six month injection tI' test on wells 5-86 and 6-42. The purpose of the long term test is to determine the injection pressures to be expected under stabilized injection rates. This information will be used to size a permanent installation. Injection will be performed using produced water volumes. Current produced water volumes are approximately 140 BWPD. Injection will likely take place in a batch mode with produced water stored for one to two day periods and then injected. It is estimated that a test period of up to six months will be needed to ensure that injection rates and pressures are truly stabilized before sizing pumps. It is planned to perform state witnessed MIT's before moving ahead with the long term injection test. Attached is form 403 for each of the two wells planned for the test. Injectivity under long term injection would likely be significantly less than the rates in the injectivity test. . . The tubing, production casing and outer casing pressures were monitored and recorded for three (3) consecutive days. The production casing pressure was altered by 200 psi. Pressures were then monitored and recorded for an additional four (4) consecutive days. See attached data sheet and well schematic. It is clear from relent pressure surveillance and testing that the Bruce 12-42 well has tubing/packer integrity and therefore cannot have flow from the productive interval into the 9 5/8" casing. The water flood s~yfitem on the Bruce Platform has been disassembled and we are not currently planning t' 'o resume further injection on this platform. On December 1 and 2, 1978.the C-2 and C-3 formations were'backflowed 37 hours to determine the production potential and'saturation. Initial shut-in tubing pressure was 1145 psi. A total of 556.5'barrels of fluid were recovered during the test. Flow rates were 12.3 to 16.4 BPH and 100%'BS&W content. Flowing tubing pressure was 51 psi and separator pressure-35 psi during the test period. The well was then shut-in and the tubing pressure increased 1000 psi in 24 hours. Injection mandrel values were then changed and'water injection commenced into the C-2, C-3, C-5, C-7, C-8 and C-9 intervals on December 6, 1978. Current injection rates are 998 BwPD.at 5400 psi with an annulus pressure of 2400 psi. 16. As discussed on November 30, 1978, between Mr. G. R. McGregor of this office and ~r~__~_o~le ~milton. v~r~l ~pp~n~,~l was granted to backflow Granite Point 18742 Well No. 12RD. Our original intent was to complete and commence water injection without extensive backflowing of the referenced well. Our change of plans is based on the high bottomhole pressure experienced and the small amount of crude oil production obtained during cleaning up the C-2 and C-3 zones. This brought about our request to further backflow and determine the production potential and saturation of the C-2 and C-3 Zones. Gary MacGregor with Amoco called on November 30, 1978 to report that their new injection well 18742 No. 12RD, which is on their Bruce Platform in the Granite Point Field, has been completed. He requested permission to back-flow the zones that will be injected into before converting the well to full injection. As a matter of interest, he said the upper-most zone which contains the C-2, C-3 sands had a higher pressure than they anticipated and they're interested to see what the back-flow test results in this zone. During the period of back-flow they will have a downhole safety valve in the tubing. I gave verbal approval for this back-flow testing on this date. L. A. Also included is our State Form 10-403,' Sumdry~ NotiCe of Interestto'Abandon the existing wellbore and recomplete the well by sidetracking. The well was originally completed as a flowing oil well in April 1967 and converted to a water injection well shortly thereafter. Due to poor injection performance, the well was shut in during May, 1967,. and has re~ained so to date. Amoco proposes to~redrill the well by cutting and pulling approximately 3300' of existing 9-5/8,' casing, sidetracking the original wellbore at 2100 and drilling 12-1/4" hole to a new subsurface location on top of the Middle Kenai C-5 zone at 2200' FSL, 2300' FWL, Sec. 31, TllN, RllW, S.M. Total depth will be achieved following full penetration of the C-8 zone estimated at 10,000' TMD. The well will be selectively perforated and completed as a water injector. This recompletion is necessary to increase sweep efficiency and thereby enhance recovery of trapped reserves from the east flank of the Granite Point structure. Since this well will be the fourthcompleted in the SW 1/4 of Section 31, we hereby request administrative approval for the above location.
