ABANDONMENT PROCEDURE
KUPARUK RIVER FIELD
West Sak #14
Clear area around well of tanks and stored items so that a CTU can get onto
the wellhead. Note: There is no tubing in the well and the tubing spool may
have been removed.
NU on wellhead with coiled tubing unit. RU surface tanks to take returns out of
the well. RIH with coiled tubing and displace the CaCl2 brine water with
10.1 ppg water base mud. POH.
RU wireline unit and perforate the 7" casing at the 10-3/4" casing shoe ~2,277'.
Set a cement retainer just above the perfs (7" 26 ppf K-55). RD wireline unit.
Sting in with coiled tubing into retainer and squeeze the 7"x 10-3/4" annulus
with 50 sx arcticset type cement. Leave casing valve open at surface to allow
circulation toward the surface if it occurs. Release out of retainer and leave
approximately 25 sx of cement on top of retainer. Displace cement with 10.1
ppg water based mud.
Note The 2,265' depth is a minimum of 100' below the FO collar in the 7"
casing.
Displace the 7"X 10-3/4" annulus by running 1" pipe to 150' (20' minimum)
and displacing the arctic pack fluid, then cement the annulus to surface with
arcticset type cement.
6. Cut off the casing and wellhead 3' below original tundra grade level.
1
RU wireline again and set a CIBP @ ~200'. RD wireline unit. Lay in a cement
plug with CTU from the top of the CIBP to the surface.
8. Cement any unfilled annulus.

Dear Mr. Allan
A review of our records shows that the above referenced wells are
suspended.
Section ll0(a) of the regulations states the Commission will, in
its discretion, approve the suspension of a well if the well is
capable of producing hydrocarbons in paying quantities or is
reasonably demonstrated to have future value as a service well.
Section 105(e) states that "[e]ach well to be abandoned or
suspended must be plugged...to prevent the movement of fluid
either into or between freshwater and hydrocarbon sources and to
_prevent all other fluid migration within the well bore."
In compliance with Section 170(a) of the regulations, "It]he
location of an abandoned well onshore or upon a historically
stable island must be cleared within one year following well
abandonment .... " Section 170(b) provides the means for an
extension of time if a valid reason exists, and the well bore is
properly plugged.
Mr. R. S. Allan

for location clearance inspection.
Please call Harold J. Hedlund at (907) 279-1433 if you have any

Regulations Article 2, ABA~DO!~ENT A}~D PLUGGING,
20 AAC 25.120 ~LL ABANDONME~T ~ARKER and
20 AAC 25.170 LOCATION CLEAN UP.
Gentlemen:
In regard to the above referenced regulations, your attention
is called to an attached list of wells which, according to our
records, have not received a final location inspection and
approval of clean up. In compliance with 20 AAC 25.170 Section
(a), "Within one year of suspension or abandonment of an on-
shore well", all clean up work is to ]~ finished. Section (b)
provides the means for an extension of time if a valid re~son
exists. Section (c) provides for on site inspection.
Consequently, we are presenting the following list of your
abandoned and/or suspended wells. ~any of these are now n]ore
than one year old and are not in compliance with regulations.
Others should have the final inspection completed this summer
while weather permits. This list covers the years 1975 to
date. There may be some earlier %~ells that also need inspec-
tion. If you have any earlier wells to be inspected this
sum~r please inform us.
Therefore, we are requesting a schedule fron] you for this
sumner when our field inspectors can accompany your representa-
tives to these sites for the final clean up inspection.
Yours trul/~,, ~
