Field Trip Report, March 25, 1966
Coastal Drilling Company is contractor on this hole. They had moved in
and were preparing to raise the mast. A water well had been drilled and was
completed at 175' for 25 gallons per minute. The location, as predicted to
the operator, was underlain by loose gravels. Chuck Whitney, manager of Coastal
Drilling Company, said that the operator had authorized 300' of surface location
after receiving our letter and finding that loose gravels were encountered in
their own water well.

Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Alaska
Gentlemen:
With reference to your letter of March 15, 1966, in which you approved the
drilling of the captioned well, we would like to clarify our casing settings.
We will have 13-3/8" casing set at 100' and cemented full length. You were
concerned about the possibility that we might not be through all fresh water
sands at this particular location. We are also planning to set 9-5/8" casing
at 1,000' and will cement this full length back to the surface which we feel
will protect any and all fresh water sands that. might be encountered in this
area. We based our recommendations on the BP Exploration Company #1Wasilla
State Well which was located in Section 33, T-17-N, R-l-W, Matanuska-Susitna
Borough. This well was drilled in 1963 with pipe set at 50' and then 13-3/8"
pipe was set at 1,029'. Cement~as circulated to surface on both strings of
pipe.
If you are not in .agreement with.our method of protecting fresh water sands
would you please advise by return mail.
Very truly yours,
Ass't. Drilli. ng& Production Superintendent

Attention Mr. Phil R. Holdsworth, Director
Gentlemen'
This is a follow-up to our letter of January 25, 1966 in which we
requested a copy of your.rules and.regulations plus any forms that
will be necessary in order to drill for oil or gas in Alaska. It
is our opinion'that our first.letter was probably lost in the mail
since we have not received an answer to our original request.
Austral 0il Company Incorporated plans to drill two wells in the
Manuska-Susitna Burough, commencing sometime in March 1966. We have
not operated in Alaska prior to fhis time and therefore need all the
necessary information in regard to organizational reports, bonds,
rules and forms.
Very truly yours,
C. R. Geffs
