In response Shell submitted a Sundry application to change the well status to P&A based on the existing cased hole plugs in the well (2). Missing from the abandonment is the 50 ft cement plug at the surface (regulations at that time included a provision for waiving the 50ft surface plug). AOGCC approved Shell's abandonment sundry in 1972—attached. There were no location clearance requirements in AOGCC regulation at the time this well was suspended. By 1972, location clearance requirements were in AOGCC regulation but did not include criteria for offshore wells except exempting them from installing well marker posts. (By 1980 regulations had been enhanced to require an offshore well's casing strings to be cut off below mudline). The well was left with a casing stub (unknown overall height) and cap assembly at mudline. The 2 downhole plugs—the bottom plug set on a cement retainer with cement squeezed into perforations below the retainer—effectively isolate the tested zone; each plug was verified during the plugging procedure (tagged to verify depth and competence after sufficient wait time for cement to harden). Re-abandonment would not be required just to meet the current regulations. AOGCC is in the process of releasing the XTO bond we are holding. From: Easton, John R (DNR) Sent: Tuesday, October 27, 2015 10:02 AM To: Regg, James B (DOA) Subject: XTO Surety Bond: 82338981- Cancellation Notice and Release Request Hi Jim, We are in the process of releasing a bond in XTO's name and one of the leases associated with the bond is ADL 018754. Within the lease boundary XTO (Hilcorp) has a platform and one exploration well (see attached map). The exploration well was P&A'd in 1972 and spudded in 1963. We do not have a plan of operations for this well and assume the lease was a vehicle for the operator to place the well (in conjunction with AOGCC's permit to drill permit) in 1963.This was an 1 early P&A, so I wanted to circle back with you and find out if the well (HGS/SRS ST 1) is ok to release.Any help is 'appreciated. Thanks! Bishop SH.ELL OIL COMPANY September 30, 1963 Department of Natural Resources Division of Mines & Minerals 329 Second Avenue Anchorage, Alaska Attention: Mr" Thomas R. Marshall, Jr. Gentlemen: For your information the following is a summary review of our testing operations on our S.RoSo Middle Ground Shoal State No. 1 well. After cementing seven inch casing at 8281 feet, water shut off tests were conducted on five holes at 7490 feet and at 8199 feet, and drill stem tests were made of the intervals 8085-8177 feet and 7483-8177 feet. W.S.O. TEST NO. 1 - 7490'~ September 7~ 1963 With the packer set at 7429 feet an initial shut in pressure was taken for one hour 25 minutes then the tester was opened for flow. After an open time of one hour 16 minutes the tester was pulled loose. Fluid did not surface and the surface blow varied from light to dead. Upon pulling the tester a net recovery of 16.1 barrels of fluid was noted consisting of muddy water. Resistivities of the water indicated that the fluid was mud filtrate and no'formation fluid has been recovered. Invest- igation of the pressUre charts showed that the perforations in the casing had plugged after an approximate flow time of 20 minutes. The test was judged inconclusive and a retest of the holes '~was ordered. Initial shut in pressure was 3690 psi, initial flowing pressure 495 psi, final flowing pressure 1155 psi. W.S.O.. TEST NO. 2 - 7490r~ September. 7, 8, 9~ 1963.. With the packer at 7430 feet the tester was opened for a 31 hour 37 minute flow period. Fluid surfaced in three hours three minutes and was gauged to the tanks for a period of 28 hours 34 minutes. After flowing the water cushion and some emulsion the well produced oil and was directed through various sized chokes in order to determine a stabi- lized flow rate. The following are the times and stabile rates through various choke sizes: '-2- CHOKE SIZE FLOW PERIOD RATE 3/8" 13h 15m 135 B/D 5/8" 5h 300 B/D 1/4" 3h 150 BID 1/2" 10h 22m 380 B/D, 162 MCF/D The increased rate towards the end of the test indicated the well was "cleaning up". Gravity of the oil was 35.5°API and salinities of the produced water indicated it was mud filtrate and that no formation water was produced with the oil. The tester was shut in for seven hours one minute for a final shut-in pressure following the flow period. Repre- sentative pressures were: Initial flow 965 psi, final flow 1890 psi, final shut-in 3670 psi. It was concluded that the cement bond above the perforations was effective and the water shut off test conclusive. W.S.O. TEST NO. 3 - 8199'~ September 10~ 11~ 1963 With the packer set at 8120 feet the tool was opened for a seven hour 46 minute flow period. Fluid did not surface and the blow varied from moderate to faint. A final shut in pressure was taken for a period of one hour 58 minutes and the fluid recovery was backscuttled. The net recovery was 31.6 barrels of mud and muddy water. The charts indicated the tester had leaked on the way into the hole resulting in a large mud recovery. A good final build up (3925 psi) indicated no cement bonding in the vicinity of the holes and they were subsequently squeezed with 110 sacks of cement. D.S.T. NO. 1 - 8085-8177'~ September 13~ 14~ 1963 The interval 8085-8177 feet was perforated with four jet holes per foot. With the packer at 8026 feet a 46 minute initial shut in was taken and then the toOl was opened for a 26 hour 18 minute flow period. Fluid surfaced after nine hours 14 minutes. Following the water cushion the well produced oil but no stabilized flowing rates were obtained as the well alternately flowed and died. Following the flow period a seven hour 25 minute final shut in was taken and the well backscuttled. Net recovery was 96 barrels of which 72 barrels were recovered during the gauge period to the tanks indicating a 102 B/D rate. Representative pressures were: Initial shut in 3900 psi, final shut in 3900 psi, initial flow 780 psi, final flow 1980 psi. It was concluded from the test that the interval was oil bearing and no formation water was recovered. D.S.T. NO. 2 - 7483-8177'~ September 17, 18, 19, 1963 Perforated selected intervals between 7483-8177 feet with four jet holes per foot. As flow cleaned up, flowed through 5/8" choke only. Well died twice alternately slugging mud. After second surge of mud the well began flowing clean oil at a steady rate and flow was directed through gas separator. A total of 137 barrels were recovered in six hours with a stabilized flow of 615 B/D with 250 MCF/D gas at a tubing pressure of 120 psi. 12:45 P.M. Shut in at surface to ship oil and change to 1/4" choke. 8:20 P.M. Flowed through 1/4" choke. Recovered 131 barrels during flow period. Well was shut in at the surface for one hour 25 minutes to move Rigger II to opp'~ite side of ship because of wind change. Pressure built up to 580 psi during shut in. Opened to flow through 1/4" choke. The stabilized flow was 350 B/D with 105 MCF/D at a %ubing pressure of 390 psi. 9-19-63 7:30 A.M. Changed to 5/8" choke. During flow period ran out of tank capacity before well fully stabilized. During last two hours of test the well was producing at 850 B/D and 270 MCF/D. Over the last 5 hours the rate was 745 B/D. The hubing pressure was 150 psi. Recovered a total of 176 barrels during the 5 hour 27 minute flow period. 12:57 P.M. Shut in at surface. I:10P.Mo 9:55 P.M.
