Cemented 9.~5/8" 43.5 and 47# N-80 Extreme Line casing at 8322' with 2000 sacks of cement. Landed casing and reinstalled blow out preventer. Tested blow out preventer, drilled out cement and directionally drilled 8-1/2" hole. Ran Schlumberger electrical services. Mud 80~, 42 seconds, 4.0 ml per 30 minutes. Pumped in 50 sacks cement through 4-1/2" drill pipe hung at 15310. Top not located. Pumped in 75 sacks of cement at 8358' and located top. at 8068'. Water shut off tests through five Schlumberger jet holes at 6390' then at 6320'. Perforated five Schlumberger jet; holes per foot from 6332' to 6339' and tested with Halliburton casing tester set at 6300' with tail at 6318' using dry 4-1/2' drill pipe and 5/8" bottom hole choke. Used Ford Alexander casing cutter shot and pulled 9-5/8" casing from 2060'. Hung open end 4-1/2" drill pipe at 2090' and pumped in 55 sacks of cement. Located top of plug at 2036' then laid in 15 sack plug from base of cellar to 20'. Welded on cap and abandoned. The need to drill an exploratory well at the optimum geological loca- tion is self-evident· It is our belief that the optimum location for a well on our Kasilof pr~pect is in the vi. cinity of the. planned bottom hole location of the proposed Kasilof well. Since this falls some one and one-fourth miles west of the shoreline, a straight hole would necessarily be an offshore test. We Would prefer to drill a near vert- ical well at this location in order to penetrate all potentially produc- tive horizons in their highest structural position. However, there are at least two compelling reasons why we do not propose to drill an offshore well· · The floor of Cook Inlet does not here lend itself to offshore operations, as it is strewn with extremely large boulders and is shoaled and nearly shoaled in many places. · We estimate that an offshore well would cost at least twice as much as our proposed directional well. Bo As the proposed well will spud on an parcel of land in which Union Oil Company and Marathon Oil Company jointly own the mineral rights in fee, and the entire course of the well is through a State oil and gas lease with Union and Marathon as joint lessees,, no other operator will be affected by the deviated hole. Our application, unfortunately, did not specify the proposed location of the well at its estimated intersection with the top of the Hemlock Zone, the well's principae~ objective. We estimate that this intersection will be made at a drill' depth of approximately 14,000' feet, at which depth the bottom of the well will be approximately 1,400 feet north and 5,700 feet west of the surface location. Since the intent of the regulations appears to be to control the location of wells at their productive intervals, we feel that the Kasilof ~1 drilling program satisfies that intent. We estimate that the Hemlock intersection will fall approximately 1,400 feet north and 750 feet east of the southwest corner of projected SectiOn 29, Township 3 North, Range 12 West, Seward Meridian.
