Ccal, brown lignite, and m~lstone, very soft, yellowish green fluorescence on fractures, has odor resembling heavy tars and burning cc~l. Core ~2 - Recovered 2' 2' Core consiste~ of rounde~ pebbles averaging 1/2" - 3/4" in length'in a matrix of soft brownish gray silt with aa odor resem~l~ Burning coal (similar to the bottom of Core ~1). The core is probably fill, however, it is possibly formation. Core head was badly damaged in co~ing. April lb, 1~61: Circml~tion broke out around conductor pipe, with ~[elly hanging at 30' recemente~ conductor in 2 stages with total 1~9 sacks construction cement. Cleane~ out soft cement to '35', opened to 12~" an~ drilled 12~" and spot cored 8~" hole 703' - 1S03 '. 703' - 1281' 1281' - 1303 ' Sand and siltstone Core ~3 - Recovered 11' 11' Sandstone, light gray with prominent black flecks and a few slightly elongated lighter colored zones in random orientation, fine to medium grained, subrounde~ to subangular, hard, contains 5 - lO~"light green gl~uconite (?), 5 - 10% dar~ ~erals, trace of mica (muscovite and biotite), remainder consists of quartz and sc~e feldspar, massive throughout with no lithologic change, definite bedding, or grain size variation ia entire 11 feet except a few faint dark bands (diffusion bands?), porosity fair, yellow and golden yellow fluorescence and fair cut only in basal 1 foot of the core. No definite dip can be obtained unless the faint banding represents bedding. The bands SectiOn 2~, ~0~.., R15E~i CoPPer River Page pinch and swell amd aPPear to be formed by quartz of slightly darker color thau in adjacent areas and have possibly a slightly higher percentage of dark minerals. The bands dip at from 70 - 75*. In a few cores a preferred orientation of fractures parallels the bands and in the basal core the fluorescence is also parallel. A few fracture surfaces (one of which has slickensides) dip 45*. April 15, 1961: P~n Electric log and recorded 1281' ~- 100~ (drilled depth 1S03') and Sonic log and recorded 1~' 100'. APril 18~ 1961: 13-B/8" cemented 1002': Ran and cemented 1008' (983' net) 13-3/8" 5~.5~ J-55 Smls', 8 rd. thd. ~C 'Casim~ at 1002' KB with 1030 sacks Construction~.cemento Mixed in ~5 rains. Dis- placed with 847 c~. ft. mud using rig pumps° Bumped plugs. Cement in place 6:52 A.M. Good ret~s while m~xiug, no ret~ while displacing. Stood cemented 10 hrs. and ran temperature s~ which tmticated top of cement in 13-3/8" annulus at 56o'. Cemented 18-5/8" x annulus: with 1" line pipe hanging at BOO' pumped in 390 sacks conStru~tion cement. In ~lace lo:B0 P.M. Had good cement retum~s to surface. Landed 'casing-and installed BOPEo Tested CSO, ~il' and d.p. rams with 1500 psi for 15 mins. Drilled' 12~" and spot cored 8~" and 7-5/8" hole 1303' - 1702~o Sand and s iitstome Core $~ - Recovered 10' 10' ~uds~ light to medium gray with patchy to almost c~lete light brown oil staining, fine to medium grained, angular to summer, fair sorting, fix~ in places slightly calcareous, with higlx clay matrix, 5 - 10% dark minerals, 5% glauconite (?), 5% mica ~mmscovite and biotite), generally massive with bedding indicated only by a few scattered dark bands of high concentration of mica with a preferred orientation along which the core tends to split, porosity al~ears low under hand lens, but appears goed when viewed 'with binocular ~icroscope, staining varies from excellent yellowish brown ove~ stainiug in portions of the core (particularly the basal 1~ feet) to no staining in other portions, stained portions have strong odor, fluoresce bright yellow or golden yellow and with- out crushiug, the cut gives an immediate bright bluish white fluorescence. Dip 35-~0~ ~ very good. Core ~5 - Recovered 8' 3' Sandstone, medium gray with conspicuous black bands, fine to medium grained~ angular to subangular, fair sorting, firm, clay matrix, 5 - 10~ dark minerals, trace of glauconite, 5% mica (muscovite and biotite) be~~ indicated by irregular micaceous and carbonaceous strip, ers which in places are pmrt/ally pyritized and along which slight slippage haS occurred, ~orosity appears low, in ger~ral the lithology is very similar to Core ~4, but with no cut, stain, or o~or~ and only rare patches of dull yellow fluorescence. One small area of am~er colore~ transparent waxy mater/al fluoresces bright blmish white but gives a poor cut. Dip 20-30~ except on one small hi~ abraded fragment of core at base of unit which has a dip of 9~, dips meas~ on pro~minent carbonaceous stringers. Section ~.~ ~. R15E~ Oozier Rive? Drilled 10-5/8" and spot cored 7-5/8" hole 1T02'-21~3'. 1792' - 2010' 2010' - 2018' Siltstone Core ~6 - Recovered 10' 10' Sandstone, da~k gray, fine to very fine grained, subangulmr to sub- rounded, fa~ sorting, 10% dark minerals - mostly biotite, prominent ~covite, ve~ slightly calcareous, clay matrix, firm, massive throughout with preferred orientation of mica (along which core tends to split) the only evidence of heal,ling, has spotty dull gold to yellow fluorescence in places, no odor or stain, cut gives poor to fair Bluish white fluorescence. Dip 20-25e, measured on ex- cellent b~~ planes. Siltstone Core ~7 - Recovere~ 8' 6 ' ~andstone, light greenish gray, very fine grained, subangular to surrounded, well sorted, firm, argillaceous, 10~ dark minerals (mostly biotite), trace 'of light green glauconite (?), massive throughout, porosity appears fair, slig~ht gassy odor and spotty dull gold fluorescence in same areas which give a cut with a fair Bluish white fluorescence, no visible staining. Dip 20' - from several excellent Planes along which the core tends to split. Page 5 2018' - 2116' 2116' - 2132' 2132' - ~143' 2 ' Limestone, black, finely crystalline, extremely dense (rings when struck with hammer), very argillaceous and sandy - sand gra~ identical to those df the Sit above, has thin calcite veinlets along random fracture planes which dip approximately '6'0". Grad~- tiomal through a narrow zone with unit above. No cut, stain, odor, or fluorescence (other than abundant mineral fluorescence). Siltstone Core ~8 - Recovered 16' 16' Sandstone, greenish gray, very fine grained, angular to subangular, fair sorting, very soft (upper five feet completely crushed in coring) to f~ in lower ... port ion , micaceous, very argLl.laceous, slightly glauconitic, generally massive with bedding suggested only by a pale color band~ and Preferred direction for core to split, appears tight~ had very strong gassy odor throughout, patchy light brown staining in upper 5 feet and along fractures throughout the core, light greenish brown 'cut fluorescing bright bluish white, fluorescence varying from bright yellow to dull gold (water wet?), mud from core barrel had slight iridescent oil film.. Dip 45 - 50' (crossbedding?) measured on color banding. Core has slickensided surfaces dipping 60'. Core ~9 - Recovered il' 11' Siltstone, light to dark gray, angular to subangular, ~poorly sorted, hard, slightly calcareous in places, generally Quite argillaceous with very prominent current crossbeddiug and thin black claystone stringers, highly fractured in some areas - with slickensides, porosity appears low, no cut, stain, or fluorescence, but~has strong gassy odor from fresh broken surface. Dip - 45', excellent, measured on thin bl~.ck claystone stringer~ but individual cross bed dips range up to 70'. M~y 1, 1961: Ban I-ES log and recorded from 2136' (drilled depth 2143'), ran Micro log and recorded from 2136 '. Opened 10-5/8" to 12~" hole 1672' - 2088'. ~y 16, 1961: _DST 21~' - 2143' - N.G.: 85' air cushion, 3/8" and 1/2" beans, packers failed. Took 45 min. initial Shut'-in" opened tools and packers failed.. HP 1490 psi. · Opened to 10-5/8" and drilled 10-5/8" and spot cored 7-5/8" hole 2143' - 2803'. While making trip at 2255' gained approximately ~5 bbls. in mud tanks with 96-97~ mud in the hole. t~ilt 'mud weight back t° 98-~ and stopped water entry. 2143' - 2172' 2172' - 2182' 2182' - 2715' Siltstone Core ~10 -' Recovered 10' 10' Siltstone, gray, subangular to subrounded, hard to fire, extremely argillaceous, has prominent thin alternating light and dark bedding, portions highly fractured, no cut, stain, or fluorescence, and only a slight gassy odor in some portions. No cut, stain, or fluorescence, and only a faint gassy odor. Siltstone Core ~12 - Recovered 20' 20' Sandstone, gray to dark gray, very fine grained, angular to sub- angular, fair sorting, very soft to firm, argillaceous, mica- ceous, 10% dark minerals, contains black claystone stringers, entire core cut by many fractures-upper 6' brecciated and badly crushed in cor~iporosity appears poor, strong gassy odor, bright bluish/l~o~scence, ~ spotty brown stain, and pale brown cut obtained from and adjacent to fractures in upper 6' of core, remainder of core has no stain or cut, only very dull spotty fluorescence, and poor gassy odor. No dip obtainable. Core ~13 - Recovered 7' '7' Sandstone, gray, very fine grained, angular to subangular, fair sorting, fire, argillaceous, highly brecciated, no bedding visible~ contains brecciated black claystone masses., porosity appears poor, no cut, stain, or fluorescence, but fair .gassy odor throughout. Nay 7,. 1961: Ran X-ES log~and recorded from 2~' (drilled depth 2803'). 2797' - ~'.. Ran Sonic log and. recorded Nay 8,. 1961: DST ~' - 2803': 85' air cushion, 3/8" and 1/2" beans. Dips excellent - 70'-80', except 50' at base of core. Siltstone . Core ~15 - Recovered 10' ~?~'. Siltstone, greenish gray, angular to subangular, fair sorting, soft, sandy, extremely argillaceous, with thin beds of soft brownish black claystone, badly fractured and brecciated- obscuring dip. 7" Sandstone, greenish gray, .angular to subangular, fair sorting, firm, argillaceous, 10% dark minerals, massive numerous fractures at random orientation, core has tendency to split along irregular planes dipping about 4~, porosity appears low, no cut, stain, fluorescence, or odor. Dip 80'±, rated as good, however, most of core has no trace of bedding. · Siltstone Core ~1 - Recovered 4' Siltstone, gray, hard, slightly calcareous, extremely argillaceous, mdcaceous, evenly laminated bedding~ with irregular pods and thin evenly bedded layers of black mudstone, and claystone - some with slicke~ides, much of core badly broken in coring, no visual porosity, stain, fluorescence, cut, or odor. Siltstone ~ect.~on 24..,.....~0~.~' P~ISE, ..Co~er River B & M Page 8 6392' - 6}404' Core ~22 - Recovered 8' 8' Sandstone, light gray, fine to medium grained, angular to sub- rounded, well sorted, extremely friable on fresh core - hardens upon drying, extremely argillaceous, 5% dark minerals - mostly dark green glauconite (?) ~ massive throughout with thin steeply dippi~ fraCture (?) planes containing black clay and some soli~ hydrocarbon, good.visual porosity, fair gassy odor through, very pale brown stain in some areas, gives cut varying from l~ale greenish brown to colorless - fluorescing yellow, core fluoresces dull gold to bright bluish white. No dip obtainable. Siltstone Core ~2B - Recovered 1' 1' ~stone as in core ~22, no fluorescence, cut, or stain, fair gassy odor. Dip 60'-70' - poor° ~ragments recovered included smmli pieces of dense black limestone and siltstone. Opene~ to 12~" and drilled 12~" hole 6444' - 6510' and cored 8~" hole 6510' ~ 6548'. 6,444' -"6510' 65-3.0' - 6530' 6530' - 6548' Siltstone Core ~24 - Recovered 2' 2' Sandstone, gray, fine grained, angular to suban~, hard, ex- =~.t~emely argillaceous in part - to extremely calcareous in other zones, 10% dark minerals - mostly dark green glauconite (?), m~ssive - with thin concentrations of biotite, visual porosity very low, no cut, stain, or odor, and only very dull go14 even fluorescence, except along r~ndom fractures which have pale greenish brown live oLl staining, good odor of cru~e oil, br~.l- liaut yellow fluorescence, and pale brown cut. Dip 40' - raked as fair, measured on concentration of biotite grains. Portion recovered probably, from 6522' - 6524', remainder apparently too soft, and w~shed away during coring.
