Marshall, Jr. Petroleum Supervisor FRoM:HarrY Ku§ler Petroleum Geolog/st State of Alaska DIVISION OF HINES AND MINERALS DATE : September 19, 1966 SUBJECT: Pollution during the Testing of Atlantic Richfield Company, McArthur State ~1 I was a witness to DST ~3 on the subject well from 1:30 p.m. September 17, 1966 until 10:30 a.m. september 18, 1966. Oil and gas were flowing from the well during some of this time in the following manner: From the well head, the fluid and gas was piped through a test separator where the oil, water, and gas were separated and measured. The gas was vented to the atmosphere from a pipe at the top of the der~£ck. The oil and water were put into a commonline and transferred to a storage barge moored along side the drilling vessel. Although I was not on deck at all times, there was no fluid from the well entering Cook Inlet. The storage barge was clean and no contaminants were coming from it. Some mud was reported on the drill floor after the oil had been reverse circulated out. During the clean-up period, the mud, oil and water were put into the barge. Since drilling operations had terminated, cuttings were not being dun~ed overboard. I, personally, saw no signs of water pollution from the operation while I was there, 9~/cjh Form No. P--4 ~ '~.
