Post Office Box 100360 Anchorage, Alaska 99510-0360 Telephone 907-276-1215 May 21, 1992 Mr. Mike Minder State of Alaska Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation Comm. 3001 Porcupine Drive Anchorage, AK 99501 Dear Mike: Subject: SRU 314-27 Plug and Abandonment I have enclosed a revised Sundry Notice for the plug and abandonment of SRU 314-27. The revisions are based on review of the 1960 workover history for the well. The workover determined a part existed in the 7-5/8" casing at 338'. At this point the 5-1/2" liner was fled back to 8794'-surface. In order to run the 5-1/2" casing, a 6-1/8" mill bit was run through the part to widen the hole diameter. The 7-5/8" x 13-3/8" annulus was subsequently down squeezed with 250 sx of cement. It is ARCO's opinion that this squeeze job resulted in cementation of the 7-5/8" x 5-1/2" annulus across the part at 338'. In this way, we believe the 5-1/2" casing can not be cut and pulled as per the original procedure. Additionally, the 6-1/8" OD across the casing part at 338' is too small to accommodate running a 7-5/8" bridge plug or 7-5/8" cement retainer as per the original procedure, even if the 5-1/2" casing could be pulled. We propose to perforate the 5-1/2" and 7-5/8" casing 50' above the surface casing shoe and down squeeze cement out the surface casing shoe. Additionally, an attempt will be made to circulate/squeeze cement in the 5- 1/2" x 7-5/8" annulus above the 7-5/8" casing part at 338'. If I can provided additional information concerning the above mentioned procedure, please feel free to call me at 263-4243. Sincerely Hans T. Erickson Drilling Engineer CC. A. W. Shortly after the initial completion it was determined that fluids were migrating from the Hemlock into shallow sands near the surface shoe at 2,883'. The effects of the communication was also detected on temperature logs run in the adjacent SRU 12-27 wellbore located on the same pad. The path of the flow was believed to have been up the. PC x tubing annulus to a hole in the PC above 1,500'. After exiting the 7-5/8" PC into the SC x PC annulus the oil then flowed downward to the surface casing shoe and into the adjacent formations. Off from this occurrence was actually produced from intervals between 2,880' and 3,500' in SRU 212-27. To stop the underground flow the well was killed and a 5-1/2" tieback string run and cemented. During the remedial work the 7-5/8" casing was found to be parted at 338'. The result of the failure was presumed to have been caused in part from the injection of cold fluids that were pumped into the 13-3/8" x 7-5/8" annulus for disposal during spring break-up. In 1963 the well was converted to a gas injector and re-named 314- 27. Gas injection continued through 1981. The last workover was done in 1965 to repair parted tubing that resulted from the March '64 earthquake. No lnJecUon or sustained producUon was recorded after November '81. Flow testing of the well in 1988 showed the well flowed at water cuts in excess of 95%. Because communication exists between the tubing and all of the casing strings the well is not producible in its current conflguraUon and any hope of returning the well to producUon would require a major workover. This work cannot be jUsUfled given the Umited production potenual and the wells poor mechanical condlUon. Furthermore, because of the 5-1/2" tieback string, the weU is not a good sidetrack candidate. SRU 14-27 had produced a total of 1,407.8 MBO, 82.4 MBW and 260.5 MMSCF. After being converted to an injector (SRU 314-27) a total of 78.3 BCF of gas was injected. In March of 1991 pressures were as follows: SITP- Trace; PC - 42 psi; SC = 0 psi. The well presently has a single 2-9/16" master valve with gray lock connections. CommissiOn Anchorage SUBMIT IN TRIPLICATE SRU 314-27 Wen History Summary SRU 14-27 was a directional well drilled in 1959-60 and was originally completed as a Hemlock producer in benches H1 through H5. Shortly after the initial completion it was determined that fluids were migrating from the Hemlock into sha_llow sands near the surface shoe at 2,883'. The effects of the communication was also detected on temperature logs run in the adjacent SRU 12-27 wellbore located on the same pad. The path of the flow was believed to have been up the PC x tubing annulus to a hole in the PC above 1,500'. After exiting the 7-5/8" PC into the SC x PC annulus the oil then flowed downward to the surface casing shoe and into the adjacent formations. Oil from this occurrence was actually produced from intervals between 2,880' and 3,500' in SRU 212-27. No injection or sustained production was recorded after November '81. Flow testing of the well in 1988 showed the well flowed at water cuts in excess of 95%. Because communication exists between the tubing and all of the casing strings the well is not producible in its current configuration and any hope of returning the well to production would require a major workover. This work cannot be justified given the limited production potential and the wells poor mechanical condition. Furthermore, because of the 5-1/2" tieback string, the well is not a good sidetrack candidate. Dygas, Branch Chief United States Bureau of Land Management Post Office Box 230071 Anchorage, Alaska 99523 Dear Joseph: Attached is a Sundry Notice requesting approval to temporarily abandon 39 wells in the Swanson River Field for a period of 12 months. This sundry is being submitted to comply with Chapter II, Sec. 3162.4, paragraph C of the Bureau of Land Management Regulations. All 39 of the wells mentioned in the attached Sundry Notice are expected to be shut-in for a period of at least 30 days. The 39 wells listed in Table #1 were identified during our recent review of the status of all wells in the Swanson River Field. These wells have been put into four categories: 1. Evaluate for rate potential 2. Evaluate for plug and abandon/future utility 3. Shut in - inefficient production 4. Shut in - save for blowdown Wells. in Categories #1 and #2 are currently under evaluation to determine their final disposition. Wells in Categories #3 and #4 are wells with little short-term usefulness, but wells that do have some long-term utility. If you have any questions about this Sundry Notice request, please contact me at 263-4299. Sincerely, .?' -' H. F.
