O. BOX 4-1'579 ANCHORAGE, ALASKA 99503 Texaco-Superior Trading Bay State (ADL 17597) Well TS 7 RD Conservation File No. 84 Mr. T. R. Marshall, Jr. Executive Secretary Alaska 0il & Gas Conservation Committee 3001 Porcupine Drive Anchorage, Alaska 99504 Dear Sir: Texaco Inc., as operator for itself and The Superior Oil Company, hereby withdraws its application for commingling the subject well. This matter was discussed with Messrs. H. L. Burrell, Jr., T. R. Marshall, Jr,, and 0. K. Gilbreth on November 10, 1969, and tentative verbal approval was given. On October 27, 1969, a:n emergency order was issued under Conservation File No. 84 which permitted commingling T-S -~7 R.D. for a 15-day period for the purposes of testing. On October 29, 1969, the "G" sand interval in the well from 8,390' to 8,415' and from 8,440' to 8,520' was perforated through tubing with four holes per foot. The present mechani- cal condition of the well is shown on Exhibit 1 attached hereto. A number of long-term production tests of the well were taken, both prior to and after the "G" Zone perforations were added. A graphical summary of the well test data is attached as Exhibit 2. This plot of the well tests graphically demonstrates that the "G" Zone perforations are nOt contributing any significant amount of production to the well. If anything, the tests indicate that pressure depletion of the Hemlock Zone is occurring. Additionally, neither the formation GOR nor the water cut has shown any significant change from what they were Mr. T. R. Marshall, Jr. -2- November 11, 1969 prior to adding the "G" Zone perforations. The Hemlock Zone in this well is tight compared to other production in the Trading Bay area. Based on the T-S ~7 original hole, we know that the sands above about 8,400' in this well are too tight to be productive. It is now apparent that the "G" Zone intervals perforated are also too tight to be productive. Exhibit 3 attached hereto is a contour map of the area under consideration. You will note that T-S ~7 is pro- ducing from its own fault block, which is bounded to the south and west by faults, to the east by down dip water, and to the north by a dry hole (T-S ~5); hence its condition will not affect other wells. We propose to leave the "G" Zone perforations in this well open to the well bore until such time as the well is abandoned. We believe that this will not reduce the well's Hemlock Zone recovery' because the "G" Zone is essentially impermeable and, because of this, there will be no significant cross flow of fluids regardless of whether' the well is in a producing or shut-in condition. Based upon the above data and discussion, we hereby' withdraw our commingling application and request approval to produce the well in its present mechanical condition. Very truly' yours, TEXACO Inc. Texaco Inc. has petitioned the Alaska 01~ and Gas Conservation Committee for an order permitting commingling in the referenced well of the Trading Bay Middle Kenai Oil Poo~ and the Hemlock Oil Pool as defined in Conservation Order 69. A hearing has been set for November 25, 1969, in the Crawford Memorial Building, Third Avenue and Eagle Street, Anchorage, Alaska, at 9:30 a.m. An emergency order is hereby granted pursuant to and in accordance with Section 20~2 of the Oil and Gas Conservation Regulations permitting commingling of production in the referenced well for testing purposes at the operator's risk. Well TS %7 RD penetrated the top of the "G" Zone, as defined in Conservation Order No. 69 of the Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation Committee dated January 24, 1969, at 8300' MD, and the top of the Hemlock Zone at 8538' MD. The bottom hole location at 8816' total depth is 2102' South and 3320' West of the northeast corner of Section 34, T10N-R13W, S.M., at a vertical depth of 8497'. The only two apparently productive intervals are the "G" and Hemlock Zones. The Hemlock was perforated at intervals from 8540' to 8750' MD and had a sus- tained initial production of some 260 BOPD on gas .lift through a single 2 7/8" tubing string, which is set at 8367' MD. At the present time the Hemlock Zone continues to produce at' essentially' this same marginal rate. Mr. T. R. Marshall, Jr. -2- October 9, 1969 We believe that this application is supportable since this well apparently lies in a fault block separate from other production, and Texaco-Superior is the only affected operator. The low productive capacity of this well eliminates our incen- tive to increase our investment, and it is mechanically difficult to make a dual completion. Additionally, failure to approve this application will result in a long-term delay in the recovery of the "G" Zone reserves. By commingling, recovery can be increased since it will be possible to produce the well to a lower economic limit on a zonal basis.
