Re: THE APPLICATION OF ARCO, )
ALASKA, INC. for an order )
granting an exception to )
Rule 3 of Conservation Order)
No. 173. )
Conservation Order No. 182
Kuparuk River Field
Kuparuk River Oil Pool
May 26, 1982
IT APPEARING THAT:
·
ARCO Alaska, Inc., Kuparuk River Unit Operator, sub-
mitted an application, dated May 7, 1982, requesting an
exception to Rule 3 of Conservation Order No. 173 which
permits only one well to be drilled on a governmental
quarter section.
·
ARCO Alaska, Inc. requests that the unlimited spacing
of Wells be granted for Sections 5, 6, 7, 8, 15, 16, 21
and 22, TllN, R10E, U.M., in the participating area of
the unit and the area for a pilot waterflood program.
·
The Increment I pilot waterflood project, which was
approved on February 8, 1982, is located on the above
referenced eight sections and includes wells to be
drilled on various spacing patterns ranging from 40
acres to 160 acres.
·
Initial water injection in the Increment I pilot
waterflood project is projected to begin in December,
1982.
·
Notice of the application was published in the
Anchorage Times on May 14, 1982.
6. There were no protests to the application.
FINDINGS:
·
The Kuparuk River Formation in the Kuparuk River Field
appears amenable to waterflooding and waterflooding
should provide for greater ultimate recovery in the
field.
Conservation Order No. 182
Page 2
·
Data obtained from the performance of wells in the
different spacing patterns is necessary to plan for a
field-wide waterflood program.
·
The correlative rights of all leaseholders are
adequately protected.
CONCLUS I ON:
The requested exception will not damage the reservoir,
will provide useful information for future operations and will
provide for the determination of the optimal pattern for water-
flooding on a pool-wide basis.
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED THAT:
ARCO Alaska, Inc. operator of the Kuparuk River Unit,
is exempted from the requirements of Rule 3, Conservation Order
No. 173 and may drill an unrestricted number of wells in the area
of the Kuparuk River Field defined as Sections 5, 6, 7, 8, 15,
16, 21 and 22, TllN, R10E, U.M.
Done at Anchorage, Alaska and dated May 26, 1982.

Subject: Application for Exception
Rule 3 Well Spacing
Conservation Order No. 173
Kuparuk River Field
Kuparuk River Oil Pool
Dear Mr. Chatterton:
The Working Interest Owners of the Kuparuk River
Unit request that the Alaska Oil and Gas Con-
servation Commission grant an exception to Kuparuk
River Field Rule 3, Well Spacing, of Conservation
Order No. 173 for the area affected by the Incre-
ment I Waterflood pilot. This pilot waterflood was
approved by the Commission in your letter of
February 8, 1982. The area includes Sections 5, 6,
7, 8, 15, 16, 21 and 22 of TllN-R10E, Umiat
Meridian. We request unrestricted spacing for this
area. The entire affected area and all surrounding
acreage are within the participating area of the
Kuparuk River Unit.
Two drill sites are included in the initial water-
flood to be started in December, 1982. One of
these, Drill Site 1E, is highly faulted and our
plans call for drilling on 40 acre spacing on
Sections 16, and 80 acre spacing on Sections 15, 21,
and 22. The waterflood will begin December, 1982.
The denser well spacing will provide data faster for
planning of the fullfield waterflood, and will also
provide comparisons of sweep efficiency for the
various well spacings used.
