There were no protests to the application. FINDINGS: · · · Gas-oil ratio tests of 12 hours duration give good results but the increasing number of producing wells in the Prudhoe Bay Field has created a problem whereby some wells cannot be tested as often as the operators would prefer. Studies have been performed on a random sampling of 96 12-hour tests on 80 different wells where the gas-oil ratio after four hours was compared to the gas-oil ratio after 12 hours in each of the 96 tests. These studies indicate that the test accuracy is not .. materially different whether of four hour duration or 12 hour duration. More gas-oil ratio tests can be obtained in a given time period if the individual tests are of shorter duration. Conservation Order No. 194 Page 2 January 18, 1984 · Some wells in the more sensitive portions of the field should be tested more frequently for over-all reservoir management. CONCLUSIONS: The gas-oil ratio data obtained from tests of four hours duration are adequate for reservoir surveillance and an increased number of tests will provide additional data to aid in the management of the Prudhoe Oil Pool. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED: Conservation Order No. 185 is amended to read as follows: "Between 90 and 120 days after substantial production starts and each six months thereafter a gas-oil ratio test shall be taken on each producing well. The test shall be of at least four hours duration and shall be made at the producing rate at which the operator ordinarily produces the well. The test results shall be reported on Well Status Report and Gas-Oil Ratio Tests, Form 10-409, within fifteen days after comple- tion of the survey." "Chat" Chatterton Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission 3001 Porcupine Drive Anchorage, AK 99501 RE: Prudhoe Bay Unit Request for Conservation Order Change Dear Mr. Chatterton: ARCO Alaska, Inc. and Sohio Alaska Petroleum Company request a change in Conservation Order No. 145, Rule 7, requiring a semiannual, 12-hour gas/oil ratio test on each producing well in the Field. It is requested that the required duration of these tests be reduced from 12 hours to 4 hours. Studies were recently performed on a random sampling of ninety-six 12-hour tests on 80 different wells. In these studies, the average rates over the 12-hour test period were compared against the average rates during the first 4 hours of that same test. Results of these studies indicate that little, if any, improvement in the test accuracy can be realized by the longer test length. Data from these studies is graphically illustrated in the attachments. Also included is a tabulation of the wells tested and the test dates with a map showing the location of these wells. A reduction in the State required test lengths would enable us to get more tests and would enhance overall well allocation. Both ARCO and Sohio remain committed to maintaining the overall quality of our test data. This ensures proper monitoring of well/reservoir ~. -.~ behavior needed to support field development planning. ~,,,~97~ ARCO Alaska, ~nc. is a Subsidiary of At]anticRich~ie~dCompany Mr. C. V. Notice is hereby given that ARCO Alaska, Inc. and Sohio Alaska Petroleum Company have requested the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission to issue an order that will change the duration of gas-oil ratio tests from 12 hours, as now required by Conservation Order No. 185, to four hours duration. In support of this request, the referenced companies have performed studies on a random sampling of 80 different wells where 96 twelve-hour test results were compared to the results that were obtained during the first four hours of the same tests. The data obtained after four hours was essentially the same as the data obtained after twelve hours. Parties who may be aggrieved if the order is issued granting the referenced request are allowed 10 days from the date of this publication in which to file a protest, in writing, stating in detail the nature of their aggrievement and their request for a hearing. The place of filing is the Alaska Oil and Gas Conserva- tion Commission, 3001 Porcupine Drive, Anchorage, Alaska 99501. If such a protest is timely filed, a hearing on the matter will be held at the above address at 9:00 AM on January 18, 1984 at which time protestants and others may be heard. If no such protest is timely filed, the Commission will consider the issu- ance of the order without a hearing. Kugle~ Commis s ioner Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation Commission .- I nosl$.
