Re: THE APPLICATION OF ATLANTIC )

Well No. DS 2-14. )
Conservation Order No. 166
Pr udhoe Bay Field
Prudhoe Oil Pool
June 2, 1980
IT APPEARING THAT:
·
Atlantic Richfield Company submitted an application,
dated May 16, 1980, requesting an exception for the
subject well to Rule 3(f) of Conservation Order No. 145
which requires production casing or liner to be landed
through the completion zone and cement to cover and
extend to at least 500 feet above the hydrocarbon-bearing
formation which is potentially productive.
·
Some wells drilled from Drill Site 2 have experienced a
high decline rate.
·
The Atlantic Richfield Company would like to evaluate
an alternate type of completion in an effort to lower
the decline rate.
·
The Atlantic Richfield Company was granted an eXception
to Rule 3(f) of Conservation Order No. 145 for the
Prudhoe Bay Unit well No. DS 2-14 in Conservation No.
164 which allowed a gravel pack type of completion.
·
The Atlantic Richfield Company now proposes an open
hole type of completion which they believe will be more
suitable in the evaluation of completion techniques.
·
Notice of the application was published in the Anchor.age
Daily News on May 23, 1980.
7. There were no protests to the application.
FINDINGS:
·
Open hole completions are commonly used in many oil
producing areas.
Conservation Order No. 166
·
The higher decline rates exhibited by some of the wells
in the Drill Site 2 area are inconsistent with the
decline rates of other wells completed in the Prudhoe
Oil Pool.
·
It is possible that the Sadlerochit Formation is not as
competent in this area of the Prudhoe Bay Field and
there may be movement of the silts and fines within the
formation which could impair well productivity.
CONCLUSION:
The requested exception will not damage the reservoir, will
not be wasteful and will add to the knowledge of completion
techniques for the Prudhoe Oil Pool.
Conservation Order No. 164 should be cancelled.
NOW, THEREFORE, it is ordered that:
Conservation Order No. 164 is hereby cancelled.
The Atlantic Richfield Company is exempted from the require-
ments of Rule 3(f) of Conservation Order No. 145 and may complete
the Prudhoe Bay Unit Well No. DS 2-14 with an open hole type of
completion.
Done at Anchorage, Alaska and dated June 2, 1980.

Subject' DS 2-14, Permit No. 80-18, Conservation Order No. 164,
letter dated April 3, 1980
Dear Mr. Hamilton-
Enclosed is a Sundry Notice outlining our plans for an open hole
completion.
In March of this year we applied for and received an exception
to Rule 3(f) of Conservation Order No. 145 for the purpose of
gravel packing DS 2-14.
We now feel an open hole completion with 8½" hole would be more
suitable and are requesting another exception to Rule 3(f) for
a "Barefoot" type compl etion.
Yours very truly,
P. A. VanPusen

be left open. Logs will be run across selected intervals. A 13-5/8' 5000 psi RSRRA
BOP stack will be used. It will be pressure tested each week'& operationally tested each
trip. A string of 5½" 17# L-80 tubing, packer & necessary provisions for subsurface
safety equipment will be run. The packer will be set above the Sadlerochit. A non-
freezing liquid will be left in all uncemented annuli within the permafrost interval.
A 5000 psi WP wireline lubricator, tested to working pressure, will be utilized with all
wireline work. The downhole safety valve will be installed & tested upon conclusion of
job.
The purpose of this "barefoot" type completion is to evaluate new completion techniques
in the Sadlerochit formation that will provide less formation damage and higher produc-
tion rates, especially related to formation damage decline rates.

Re: The application of Atlantic Richfield Company, dated May 16,
1980, for an order granting an exception to Rule 3(f) of
Conservation Order No. 145 for the Prudhoe Bay Unit No.
DS 2-14 well.
Notice is hereby given that the Atlantic Richfield Company
has requested the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission to
issue an order granting an exception to the cementing require-
ments of the referenced Conservation Order for the Prudhoe Bay
Unit No. DS 2-14 well, which is to be completed in the Prudhoe
Oil Pool of the Prudhoe Bay Field. The operator states that with
the requested exception, the subject well could be completed as
an open hole completion. The~ operator further states that since
there is a high decline rate for wells drilled from Drill Site 2,
this type of completion should be evaluated as a means of reduc-
ing the decline rate.
Parties who may be aggrieved if the reference order, is
issued are allowed 10 days from the date of this publication in
which to file a protest in writing, stating in detail the nature
of their aggrievement and their r.equest for a hearing. The place
of filing is the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, 3001
Porcupine Drive, Anchorage, Alaska 99501. If such a protest is
timely filed, a hearing on the matter will be held at the above
address at 9:00 AM on June 2, 1980 at which time proteStants and
others may be' heard. If no such protest is timely filed, the
