Union Oil Company of California submitted an application dated February 6, 1971, requesting the referenced order. 2. Texaco, Inc., the only affected operator, by letter dated February 3, 1971, stated that it has no objection to the subject application. 3. Notice of hearing on the request was published in the Anchorage Daily News on February 6, 1971, pursuant to Title I!, Alaska Administrative Code, Section 2009, and no protest was received. AND IT FURTHER APPEARING THAT: I. A sand encountered at 3420 feet drilled depth in the Union Oil Company of California No. A-23 Trading Bay State well is apparently absent by faulting in the Union Oil Company No. A-14 Trading Bay State well, which was used to define the Trading Bay Middle Kenai "B" Oil Pools. 2. The sand was perforated between 3424 feet and 3444 feet drilled depth in the Union Oil Company of California No. A-23 Trading Bay State well and proven hydrocarbon-bearing by a drill stem test. 3. The subject sand may be a separate pool but should be part of the Trading Bay Middle Kenai "B" Oil Pools because the erratic and unpredictable occurrence of separate pools makes it administratively impractical to isolate the indivi- dual pools for conservation purposes. 4. The interval of the previously defined Trading Bay Middle Kenai "B" Oil Pools, 3200 feet to 4585 feet drilled depth in the Union Oil Company of California No. A-14 Trading Bay State well, correlates reasonably with the interval 3615 feet to 4887 feet drilled depth in the Union Oil Company of Cal~ifornia No. A-23 Trading Bay State well. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED THAT Rule 2(a) of Conservation Order No. 93 is amended to read as fo l lows: The Trading Bay Middle Kenai "B" Oil Pools are defined as the accumula- tions of oil and gas occurring in the intervals which correlate with the Conservation Order No. I01 Page 2 March II, 1971 interval 3420 feet to 4887 feet drilled depth in the Union Oil Company of California Trading Bay State No. A-23 well. FOR REDEFINITION OF TRADING BAY MIDDLE KENAI "B" OIL POOLS, TRADING BAY FIELD Dear Mr. Marshall: Please be advised that Texaco Inc., an affected operator, on behalf of itself and The Superior Oil Company wishes to advise the Committee that it has no objection to the subject application. Union Oil and Gas~' 'ision' Western Region Union Oil Company of California 909 W. 9th Avenue, Anchorage, Alaska 99501 Telephone: (907) 279-7681 February 2, 1971 union Robert T. Anderson District Land Manager APPLICATION FOR REDEFINITION OF TRADING BAY MIDDLE KENAI "B" OIL POOLS, TRADING BAY FIELD State of Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Committee 3001 Porcupine Drive Anchorage, Alaska 99504 Gentlemen: Pursuant to the Oil and Gas Conservation Regulations and applicable statutes o.f the State of Alaska, Union Oil Company of California, on behalf of itself and Marathon Oil Company, requests issuance of an Order to delet, e Rule 2 (a) of Conservation Order No. 93 and to establish the following definition: The Trading Bay Middle Kenai "B" Oil Pools are defined as the accumulations of oil and gas occurring in the interval which cOrrelates with the interval 3,420' to 4,877', drilled depth, in the 'Union Oil Company of California Trading Bay State A-23 well. Conservation Order No. 93, Rule 2 (a) defines the top of the "B" Oil Pools at 3,200t, drilled depth, in the Trading Bay State A-14 well which is the top of the 26-7 sand. The proposed definition establishes the top of the "B" pools at the top of the oil bearing 24-6 sand which occurs at 3,420', drilled depth, in the Trading Bay State A-23 well as shown on the electric log marked Exhibit 1. The 24-6 sand is absent by faulting in Trading Bay State A-14. The base of the 24-6 sand in A-23 is 110', drilled thickness, above the top of the 26-7 sand. Base Of the "B" Pools defined in A-14 at 4,585', drilled depth, occurs at 4,887', drilled depth, in Trading Bay State A-23. Trading Bay State A-23 is the first well to be completed in the 24-6 oil sand. Geologic testimony presented on June 29, 1970 to the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Committee in support of Union's application for redefinition of the Trading Bay Middle Kenai Oil Pools included a geologic description of the "B" oil Pools. The 24-6 sand is typical of "B" oil sands described in that testimony. A drill stem test of the 24-6 sand was taken on January 11, 1971 across perforations from 3,424' - 3,444' with the packer set at 3,365~ and with drill pipe pressured to 900 psig with a gas cushion. The tool was opened for a 15 minute initial flow period'and closed for a 1 1/2 hour initial shut-in period, Oil and Gas Conservation Committee Application for Redefinition of Trading Bay ~iddle Kenai "B" Oil Pools, Trading Bay Field February 2, 1971 Subsequently the tool was opened for an 8 hour flow period and the gas cushion bled off from 900 psig to 25 psig over one hour. No fluid was recovered at the surface during the eight hour flow test. Upon completion of the test, fluids were reversed up the drill pipe and 2 bbls of 22.9© AP1 gravity oil were recovered. A one gallon crude oil sample recovered from the Sampler Sub in t~he tool assembly has been analyzed. The drill stem test charts indicated a good test, with no plugging, but with characteristics of a very tight formation. The pressure readings were as follows' Initial Hydrostatic pressure 1st Period Initial Flow pressure 1st Period Final Flow pressure 1st Period Initial closed in pressure 2nd Period Initial Flow pressure 2nd Period Final Flow pressure 2nd Period Final closed in pressure 2nd. Period Final Hydrostatic pressure 1,370 psig 1,013 psig 1,020 psig 1,213 psig 114 psig 157 psig 1,027 psig 1,370 psig A copy of the crude oil analysis and a report on the formation test are attached as Exhibits 11 and 111, respectively. The apparent anomalous gravity on the crude analysis report is a result of contact with wet gas from the gas cushion used during the drill stem test. Texaco, Inc., as operator for itself and The Superior Oil Company, is the only operator other than applicant to be affected by the requested amendment. A copy of this application is being mailed on this date to Texaco, Superior and all Trading Bay Unit participants as evidenced by the enclosed Affidavit of Mailing marked Exhibit IV. Unless a protest and request for hearing is timely filed, it is requested that issuance of the Order be without hearing.
