Conservation Order No. 189
Prudhoe Bay Field
Prudhoe Oil Pool
May 9, 1983
IT APPEARING THAT:
I ·
ARCO'Alaska, Inc. by letter dated April 19, 1983,
requested the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commis-
sion to issue an order granting an exception to
Rule 6(c) of Conservation Order No. 165 for the Prudhoe
Bay Unit well number DS 4-5. The exception would
permit the running of a static bottomhole pressure
survey in lieu of a transient pressure survey on the
well.
·
Notice of public hearing was published in the Anchorage
Times on April 27, 1983.
·
FINDINGS:
There were no protests to the application.
·
The Prudhoe Bay Unit well No. DS 4-5 is a key well in
the pressure mQnitoring program for the field and, as
such, requires la Semi-annual transient pressure survey.
·
·
The Prudhoe Bay Unit well No. DS 4-5 has been shut-in
since April, 1982 due to fl°wline corrosion.
There have been many ~.pres sure surveys run on this key
well and it is an-~id~'eal well to give an accurate
average reservoir pressure for the area.
CONCLUSIDN:
I ·
The referenced well has been shut-in a sufficient
length of time so that a static bottomhole pressure
survey will provide the required pressure information
to monitor reservoir performance.

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED THAT:
·
Prudhoe Bay Unit well No. DS 4-5, a key well, may be
surveyed by a bottomhole static pressure method for the
survey required in the first half of 1983.
DONE at Anchorage, Alaska and dated May 9, 1983.

Re: The application of ARCO ALASKA, INC., dated April 19, 1983,
requesting an exception to Rule 6(c) of Conservation Order
No. 165 in order to run a static bottomhole pressure survey
in lieu of a bottomhole transient pressure survey on Prudhoe
Bay Unit well No. DS 4-5.
Notice is hereby given that ARCO ALASKA, INC. has requested
the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, to issue an order
granting an exception to Rule 6(c) of Conservation Order No. 165
for the Prudhoe Bay Unit well DS 4-5, designated as a key well.
The exception is requested because the well is shut-in due to
flowline corrosion.
Parties who may be aggrieved if the order is issued granting
the reference exception are allowed 10 days from the date of this
publication in which to file a protest, in writing, stating in
detail the nature of their aggrievement and their request for a
hearing. The place of filing is the Alaska Oil and Gas Conserva-
tion Commission, 3001 Porcupine Drive, Anchorage, Alaska 99501.
If such a protest is timely filed, a hearing on the matter will
be held at the above address at 9:00 AM on May 9, 1983 at which
time protestants and others may be heard. If no such protest is
timely filed, the Commission will consider the issuance of the
order without a hearing.

Dear Mr. Chatterton:
Re: D.S. 4-5 Permit No. 71-25
Prudhoe Bay Pressure Survey
Enclosed is a Sundry Notice requesting a waiver to run a static
bottomhole pressure survey on DS 4-5 in lieu of the first half
semi-annual transient pressure survey prescribed in Conservation
Order 165, Rule 6-C. The well is shut-in due to flowline
corrosion.
If you have any questions, please call John Whitehead at 263-4208.
Very truly yours,

Conservation Order 165, rule 6-c requires a semi-annual transient pressure survey
be conducted on each key well. ARCO Alaska, Inc. requests a waiver to run a
static bottomhole pressure survey on key well 4-5 in lieu of the transient
pressure survey required for the first half of 1983.
Permission was granted to run static surveys in lieu of both 1982 semi-annual
transient pressure surveys. The well remains inoperable due to flowline
corrosion.
Well 4-5 is the preferred well for this semi-annual survey because it has been the
key well since start-up and numerous pressure surveys have been run. The well has
been shut-in since April 1982; therefore, the recorded pressure should be an
accurate average reservoir pressure for the area.
14. I hereby, certify that the foregoing is_true and correct to the best of my knowledge.
