Due to an unrecoverable fish, the remaining sidetrack was cemented back to the window and an Operation Shutdown status was approved, 301-134, on May 23, 2001. The K-10a sidetrack has now been re-planned and approval for resumption of drilling operations is requested. The target BHL has not changed but a new directional plan for reaching that BHL has been developed and is attached. The original window in the 7" liner at 9600 ft will be used again. The completion design and all other aspects of the sidetrack plan remain as outlined in the original Permit to Drill application. The coil drilling rig will be SLB/Nordic 1. A BOP diagram is attached. Operations are expected to resume on June 27, 2001. Below is a summary of well work operations that took place. The sidetrack has been cemented back to the window and the rig moved off the pad. CDR will tentatively return to the well in August after the current 5 x Y pad well campaign. K- 10a Operations Summary K-10a sidetrack targeted a 450' horizontal section of highly productive Zone 2 reservoir. During drilling, multiple downhole tool failures were experienced in the Z2 build section. Operations were shutdown following failure of the 3rd build attempt. The well was left with the sidetrack cemented up to the KOP at 9596'. The directional plan for this sidetrack honored two criteria. A highside kick off out of K10, and a horizontal entry into a Z2 target polygon, 200' to the east of K-10. Execution of the plan started with a trouble free exit into the Sag River off a mechanical whipstock. Drilling through the Shublik, TSAD and Zone 3 conglomerate intervals was also without serious incident - 220' hole section, 150deg turn, 0.5 o/100 build, max DLS, 32 deg/100' 1st Plugback - broken motor output shaft Drilling difficulty was first experienced on May 5th. A BHA c/w M09X PDC bit, Baker 2.%° motor and Weatherford orientator failed to build at the required 32°/100, in Z2. Only 19°/100, was achieved. In order to make up build a BHA c/w STX-20DX tricone bit, Baker 3° short radius motor and Weatherford orientator was run. On bottom the motor output shaft broke with zero footage drilled. Two fishing attempts were made, (the first tagging up on the whipstock) before plugging back with cement just into Z3. Baker have not concluded on the cause of the shaft failure. 2nd Plugback - backed off motor connection Difficulty was again experienced on May 9th drilling off the cement plug. The initial BHA c/w M09X PDC bit, Baker 2.8° motor and Weatherford orientator drilled only 85' before being POOH because of toolface flopping. The same problem was encountered with the next BHA c/w M09X PDC bit, Weatherford 3° fixed motor and Weatherford orientator. On POOH it was evident that a backed off sealed connection above the motors bent sub was responsible for the erratic drilling. Weatherford's preliminary investigation, attributed back off to a sparing use of 'Lock-tight' thread sealant. The well was plugged back a second time with cement, just into Z3. 3rd & Final Plugback - broken Hi-Load disconnect The directional plan for the third build attempt was revised on May 11th. At the KOP further right hand turn would be terminated, drilling would go straight into left hand turn and build. The previous BHA c/w M09X PDC bit, Weatherford 3° fixed md~ir . and Weatherford orientator drilled 88,''~i _ .~fore breaking at the inner housing of the disconnect sub.It took 5 days and 10 fishing runs to recover the BHA, all except a lxlxaA'' metal dog, one of three from the failed disconnect. After attempts to drill with the dog in the hole failed, two further fishing attempts were made. On the second of these runs a BHA c/w washover shoe, venturi junk basket, Weatherford 1° fixed motor and Weatherford orientator parted downhole with the breakage of the motor output shaft. The permit to redrill does not exempt you fi.om obtaining additional permits required by law from other governmental agencies, and does not authorize conducting drilling operations until all other required permitting determinations are made. Information regarding a "safety joint" for running the 3-3/16" portion of the planned production liner has been received from Mr. Ted Stagg. Providing such a "safety joint" equipped with a suitably sized lifting sub and threaded crossover to mate with the 3-3/16" liner section should lessen the time required to install the joint should a flow be observed while running the liner. However, be advised that the Commission views the use of this joint as an interim measure pending the receipt of pipe rams capable of sealing on this size pipe. Not later than May 15, 2001, Alaska Drilling and Wells (BP Exploration Alaska) is directed to provide the Commission with information ' regarding the availability/deliverability of rams sized for 3-3/16" and other such sizes that you may plan to mn. Blowout prevention equipment (BOPE) must be tested in accordance with 20 AAC 25 036. Sufficient notice (approximately 24 hours) must be given to allow a representative of the Commission to witness a test of BOPE installed prior to drilling new hole. Notice may be given by contacting the Commission petroleum field inspector on the North Slope pager at 659-3607. - "' Daniel T. Casing Program: · 3 3/16' x 2 7/8" L-80, solid liner be run from TD into the 4.1/2" tailpipe. The 14 jts of 3 3/16 liner place the crossover just below the window leaving a future sidetrack opportunity. Approx 10bbls of cement will be used to cement the liner putting TOC in the 7" liner at 9475 ft. Well Control: · BOP diagram is attached. · Pipe rams, blind rams and the CT pack off will be pressure tested to 300 psi and to 3500 psi. · The annular preventer will be tested to 400 psi and 2000 psi. Directional · See attached directional plan · Magnetic and inclination surveys will be taken every 30 ft. No gyro will be run. Logging · An MWD Gamma Ray log will be run over the open hole section. · A memory CNL log will be run to map the GOC prior to perforating. Hazards H2S at 10 ppm is not a significant hazard. The sidetrack is to be drilled into a completely un-faulted zone so the lost circulation risk is Iow. Reservoir Pressure Res. press, is estimated to be 3300 psi at 8800ss. Max. surface pressure with gas (0.12 psi/ft) to surface is 2244 psi. K-lOa Hazards Please perform pre-job Hazard ID and Safety meetings prior to every change in work scope during the operation. At any stage in the operation, if things don't look right, shut-down the operation and discuss the situation before making the next move. SAFETY FIRST · H2S is not expected. K-Pad wells are not sour. · '3300 psi @ 8800ss is the BHP prognosis - equivalent to a 7.2ppg fluid. · 2244 psi is the maximum WHP possible assuming a full gas column. · Zero faults make for a very Iow lost circulation risk. · Pressure along the wellpath is predicted to be constant. · Good to excellent rock quality in the zone to be drilled reduces the risk of multiple BHA change-outs.
