Gentlemen:
"Samples of separator liquid and vapor collected at 62.5 psig and 710 F. were
,submitted to our laboratory in Dallas to be used in the performance of a res-
ervoir fluid study. Presented in this report are the results of this reservoir
fluid study.
The producing gas-liquid ratio was calculated to be .27.tcubic feet of separator
gas at 14" 696 psia and 60 e F. per barrel of separator liquid at 62.5 psig and
60e F. Using this producing gas-liquid ratio and the measured compositions
of the separator products, the composition of the well stream was then calcu-
- lated and these data are reported on page two.
. The separator products were then physically recombined to their producing
gas-liquid ratio and the resultant fluid was examined in a visual cell at the
reservoir temperature of 1770 F. The saturation pressure of this fluid was
,measured to be ~~ psig at the reservoir temperature~ The reservoir pr~s-
sure was reported to be 4275 psig at the true vertical depth of 9765 feet. The
comparison of these two pressure values gives an indication that the fluid
presently exists as an undersaturated liquid in the reservoir.

,
During differential pressure depletion at 1770 F. the fluid evolved 403 cubic
feet of gas at 14.696 psia and 60 0 F. per barrel of residual oil at 600 F. The
associated formation volume factor was 1.267 barrels of saturated fluid per
barrel of residual oil. The gravity of this residual oil was measured to be
33.7" API at 600 F. Under similar depletion conditions at 1770 F. the vis-
cosity of the liquid phase was measured from 6000 psig to atmospheric pres-
sure. The viscosity of the fluid varied from a minimum of 0.747 centipoise
at the saturation pressure to a maximum of 1. 894 centipoises at atmospheric
pressure.
. Single-stage flash separation tests were performed on samples of this fluid
at four operating pressures and at laboratory temperature. The results of
these tests are pres, ented on page seven of the report.
..Thank you for the opportunity of performing this reservoir fluid study for
you. Should you have any questions or if we may assist you further in any
. manner, please do not hesitate to contact us.
.
, Very truly yours,
. Core Laboratorie s, Inc.

Dear Mr. Marshall:
The following information is presented in order to clari-
fy 'I!exaco. s intent. ions with respect to the proposed drilling of
TS#2o Your letter dated May 24t 1968, refers.
Texaco proposes .to complete '~¡¡el1 TS#2 as a producer. It
is not our intention to concurrently produce TS#2 and Trading Bay
state No.1. The present mechanical condition of Trading Bay state
No.. 1 \>7ould preclude producing the well 4> The operator recognizes
the requirement to inform your office prior to any change in the
mechanical status of said well.
The complex geology anticipated in this area, as found on
the adjoining Union-Marathon lease" requires that this development
well be placed very close to Trading Bay state No.1 in order to
insure completion in a co~~on fault block. Present plans call for
the future use of Trading Bay State No.. 1 as an injection well for
pressure maintenance and/or secondary recovery. In light of this
it is not considered in the State or Texaco's best interest to aban-
don Trading Bay State No~ 1 at this time.
It is requested that you ~econsider Texaco's application
for Permit to Dr ill TS~;¡~2 and that the above be considered as condi-
tional stipulations for this permit.
Very truly yours,

ing a cheaper pl_ffot1Q to be constructed for atorage only. In this event,
they would utilize the $ub-sea type of completion and operation. If this can
be done aucce9sfully and at a. cost under $5,000,00-0, then the economics of
this determination would not be valid. Since other operstors ha~"e looked 4t
this possibility and have ruled it out, we can see no justification for us to
consider tþAt it can be done at this time. The Cowwitteets finding to
Mr. Bell dated February 27) 1967,. stated ltThesa tests indicated that the
Trading})ay $t3.te "No.1 was not capgble of producing coomercial quantities of
oil, baaed on th~ QCOn~iC8 of offsr~re drilling and production practices in
use at: the time.1t

SUBJECT:
Field Trip, Texaco Trading
Bay State 4FI
On Wednesday, October 5, 1966, I traveled to the subject location to
witness installation of equipment for the proposed first subsea completion in
Alaska. Attempts had been made to install this equipment on Saturday, October
1, but a leak in the surface casing flange required remedial attention. Texaco
squeezed the production string-intermediate string annulus three times before
obtaining a successful squeeze job.
Several problems were encountered during final installation of equipment
and these are discussed in detail on the attachment to this memo. The final
installation appears to be safe and in my opinion will protect against any
flow of fluids or gases from the well bore to the Inlet.
On this trip, I did not see any oil on the Inlet or shore while traveling
to and from. location. A leak in the hydraulic system of the blowout preventers
had resulted in approximately one quart of oil accumulating on the deck of WODECO
V. A crewman washed this oil down with a hose and it naturally went into the
Inlet. It was not discernable after approximately five minutes. No other
evidence of contamination was noted.
During installation of equipment in this well, blowout prevention equip.
ment was operated several times and appeared to be safisfactory in all instances
where drill pipe was used. The blind rams and pipe rams were satisfactory in
all cases but the Hydril preventer did not give a complete seal when used with
2 7/8" tubing. This tubing diameter is so small that it is difficult to obtain
a satisfactory seal in every case.
As a matter of interest, it might be mentioned that on Thursday night I
counted 23 separate sets of lights on the Inlet from pipeline barges, drilling
barges, operating platforms, and platforms under construction. At night, the
Inlet gives the appearance of a distant small town. Also, on Thursday, October
6, Pan American set their South MGS platform into position.

FIELD TRIP REPORT
TRADING BAY STATE #1
TEXACO INC.
CONFIDENTIAL
On Wednesday, October 5, 1966, I traveled by PNA to Kenai and WODECO car
to Arness terminal, then by crew boat to the subject location. I arrived on
location at 3:45 p.m. and found operator laying down dri11inß pipe. Tubing
was started in the hole at 6:00 p.m. with each stand being hydr~ested to
4,000 psi. Tubing was landed at 1:00 a.m., but the packing element on the head
would not go into position. Repeated attempts were made and at 7:00 a.m.,
operator started pulling tubing. A perforated drill pipe stub was run in and
the BOP equipment and well head seating grdves were washed through1y. Well
.\
head was set into place and Otis blank plugs were set in the short and long
strings. Well head seating element was tested to 1,100 psi 15 minutes and
held O.K. Hydril was then closed with 2" tubing lift sub and Otis wire line
in the hole. Unable to pressure up. Worked two hours and found packing unit
had come out of J slot. Pulled head and reran tubing without hydro-testing.
At 10:00 p.m., set Otis blank plugs in both strings and tested head sealing
elements with 1150 psi for 15 minutes and held O.K. Pulled both plugs and
circulated mud out of tubing with fresh water containing inhibitors. During
circulation, pump pressure increased causing more than 1000 psi differential
across packer and packer set. Although 15 barrels of water were not pumped in,
there was sufficient volume to clear the packer and circulating valve and
extend approximately 200' up hole. Tubing had been run in and bottomed at
7764'with bottom Otis nipple for plug at 7734', hydraulic packer 7573', Otis
circulating valve at 7570', Otis storm choke nipple at 1,000 and Otis blank
plug at 103'. In the short string, an Otis blank plug was set 10' below head
sealing elements. Tested casing and packer 1150 psi 15 minutes O.K.
After circulating, Otis started in the hole to set bottom blank plug at
7734', however tool did n.ot go below 3,100' without consistent spudding. Otis
pulled out of hole and reran blank plug and set in storm choke nipple at 1,000'.
Well head connections were made and Halliburton hooked up and tested plug at
1000' with 2200 psi for 10 minutes. Held Q.K. Otis blank plug was then run
at 103' in long string and set and blank plug in short string set below surface.
Though this installation is not precisely what had been decided earlier,
completion in this manner gives two plugs between oil pay and surface through
the tubing. On the annulus side, the packer and one blank plug insure against
communication to the Inlet.
Immediately after completion of this work, operator started rigging down
to move to a Union Oil Company location. The hydraulic disconnect on the blow-
out preventers failed to work on one side and when I left location, divers were
preparing to dive to find the, trouble.
On this test, approximately eight hours were spent in travel time and
approximately 30 hours were spent in waiting on operator to install his equip-
ment in ~ condition to be tested. Total trip time from office and return 52
hour s .

SUBJECT: Field Trip Report, Texaco
Trading Bay State #1
On Saturday, October 1, 1966, I left Anchorage on the early morning PNA
flight to Kenai with Mr. Jerry Raquet of Texaco Inc. At Kenai, we traveled by
WODECO car to Arness landing, then by crew boat to Texaco's Trading Bay State
#1, arriving there at 11:15 a.m. The purpose of this trip was to witness
equipment installation and tests made in preparation for an ultimate sub-sea
permanent completion.
Upon arrival at the location, the operator was laying down drill pipe.
This was completed late in the afternoon and the crew started into the hole with
tubing at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Plans were to run tubing to
approximately 1000 feet from bottom then put in plugs, circulating valves, and
storm chokes in accordance with a plan already approved by this Branch. Each
stand of tubing was hydro-tested going in the hole and tubing and pack-off
elements were landed at 3:00 a.m.
After landing the tubing, gas bubbles were noticed rising to the surface
through the surface conductor. An Otis blanking plug was run in the short
string and the bubbling persisted, indicating a gas leak around the pack-off
elements of one of the other strings of casing. The operator decided to pull
tubing, set a bridge plug, test, perforate, and squeeze the leak before per-
manently landing the tubing. Since this operation will require 48 to 72 hours,
I returned to Anchorage by the same transportation as used in getting to the
location. Travel to and from the location and delay waiting on operator
amounted to 21 hours on this trip. A subsequent report will be prepared
when the final installation of this equipment is made.
During this trip, I did not see any sign of oil on the Inlet in any form.
A passenger on the PNA flight to Kenai who sat beside me whose name I did not
obtain, but who is Services Manager for the electric company in Kenai, stated
that he and Andy Anderson of Kenai had noticed several large oil areas on the
Inlet waters just after daybreak on Saturday, September 24, 1966. These were
located between the Shell MGS platform and the West Forelands. You will recall
that a break occurred in Shell's MGS pipeline connection at the platform on
September 23, 1966 and the spots he reported were four to six miles southwest
of this break. Also on Friday afternoon, September 23, I flew over some of the
area north of the break and found no sign of oil on the water. Without doubt
the oil he reported seeing was that resulting from the break which had already
been reported to all parties concerned. One of the larger areas he reported
seeing was about one-fourth mile wide and one and one-half to two miles long.

PRODUCTION TEST, Trading Bay State #1, Texaco Inc. (cont'd)
Pressure charts show that in four hours shut-in time, the bottom hole
pressure had not quite leveled off at its maximum. No initial shut-in pressure
was obtained because of the fear of the tool plugging, a difficulty they had in
the test of WSO.
